“I really just started figuring it out this year,” I admitted. “How about you?”
He sighed. “Ever since I can remember. I just never thought I could tell anyone before. But you seem to be cool with Big Gay Al…and you’re so nice to everyone. I thought it might be safe to tell you. I can never tell my parents.”
I shuddered. “Me neither.”
Just then Tiffany and Lilly crowded up to us, wanting to join in our conversation, so we changed the subject.
After the game, I said bye to everyone, especially Jonah, then found Becca. She carried her oboe case, and we headed to my car. I had a bag packed with clothes in there, so we headed to her house, so I could spend the night there for the first time. I’d never even met her parents before. It turned out she just lived with her mom, who was very nice, tall with the same black hair and blue eyes Becca had. After we ate some popcorn, we went to Becca’s room, where she turned on some music and we sat on the floor playing cards.
