Chapter 4

After 1 year

After receiving a task from a representative of the Age of Heroes to destroy an entire noble House, my zeal in studying Magic and Science increased significantly. I also developed quite well in combat skills, but given the gifts that I have, this is not surprising. If I could have spent more time developing my combat capabilities, I might have achieved more.

However, in this case, I would not have been able to increase my magical abilities. At the moment, my abilities in controlling crows have increased significantly; the maximum number of controlled crows has reached 17. During this time, I was also able to explore the range of my capabilities, which were limited to more or less 500 km from the weirwood.

At the same time, I was also able to inhabit the weirwood, but I have not yet decided to travel in time. The sensations of the universe were different from other living beings; the most important thing during the universe was to preserve my will and reason, because it is very easy to get lost in the weirwood. Therefore, in fear of losing myself in time, I did not dare to look into the past or into the future.

My relations with the inhabitants of the castle were generally good; there were both detractors and those who treated me very favorably. There were also those who were neutrally cold, and Sansa has recently been one of them. Alas, the influence of Lady Catelyn Stark on her daughter turned out to be very strong and recently her hatefully cold attitude has been transmitted to Sansa, while Arya turned out to be my favorite with her energy and spontaneity.

My relationship with Robb was warm, but not as close as before Theon; the procession of the prisoner from the Iron Islands turned out to be stronger than my expectations. Robb seemed to feel that he needed to have a march on me, but I couldn't allow that. In addition, my numerous victories over him in the fencing field also affected our relationship. I wanted to try to lose to him, but Ser Rodrik saw all this and pounded me into the floor with the words "So that this does not happen!" After that, he forced me to fight more serious opponents to the point of exhaustion.

Theon, after a series of defeats, reduced his ardor in insulting me, but a certain coldness remained in place. It seems to me that he also became afraid of me. I tried not to treat him with prejudice. However, there was something of the Iron Islands in his statements and behavior. In general, I tried to ignore him, and he responded in kind with rare injections.

Our relationship with Lord Eddard Stark was ambiguous; on the one hand, he was proud of me and my successes, as my passion and self-development in general would be a huge help for the future. On the other hand, he was afraid and tried to figure out where to put me.

Meanwhile, with Lady Stark and with Septa Mordane, my relationship was terrible; I couldn't think of any other word. According to my observations, Lady Stark hated me because I am a stain on Eddard Stark's honor and it seems she was afraid that in the future I might claim Winterfell. Groundless accusations, since in this case the Northerners will cut me down themselves; they have a very strong concept of loyalty.

Septa Mordane is the woman who arrived with Lady Stark. She has a bony face, sharp eyes, and thin lips, as if specially created to rebuke. She wears starched skirts, and with her fanatical faith and disregard for the Northerners and me, which I feel on my skin if it weren't for Lord Stark... Oh, dreams...

In general, Lord Stark's kindness to his wife was sometimes criticized, for such attacks in the heart of the North... But most of it was silenced by the honor of Lord Eddard Stark, and the loyalty that vassals feel to their lord.

Over the past year, I have also felt the charm of executions in the Middle Ages...

Today did not show anything unusual; as the days before that I spent time in the library, after that I went to develop my body and magic, and the rest of the time I spent in the company of children. At least it was Arya, but fate had other plans for me that day.

On this day, Lord Stark told us to pack up because we had caught a deserter from the Night's Watch, after which Robb, Theon, and I already understood what was going to happen. Since desertion from the Night Watch is punishable by death.

We rode out from Winterfell on horseback for a decent distance towards Lake Long, at a distance of about 10-15 km. An hour later, all the preparations were made, the deserter was already being dragged; it was not an old man, but not a young man with yellow teeth, brown greasy hair, and eyes full of despair. Despair that was replaced by humility when our company approached the stump, and after he was brought to his knees, humility in the eyes of a suicide bomber finally established itself in the human soul.

Taking the Ice family sword of the House of Stark from its scabbard, Lord Stark began to speak:

"In the name of Robert of House Baratheon, the first bearer of this name, King of the Andals, the Roynars and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Guardian of the Regions, according to the word of Eddard of House Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Guardian of the North, I pronounce a death sentence on you." A huge Valyrian sword flashed over the head of the deserter, and Lord Stark demolished his head with one confident movement. The ground turned scarlet.

After that, Lord Stark examined us, making sure that we were all right, and asked:

"Why do you think I killed that man?"

"Because he's a man who broke his vows?" We answered questioningly.

"Heh, yes it is. But why did I do it?" When he didn't hear the answer, he continued. "This is the way of the First People, our way. The one who passes sentence must strike because if you can't look into the eyes of the accused, maybe he doesn't deserve to die."

The rest of the way was in silence, and it was only when I was able to go to my room that I realized that "I saw death...."

Current time

After that execution, we were constantly taken to executions, among those executed were not only deserters but also rapists, murderers, and other rabble. The first few times were noticeably nerve-wracking, but humans are adaptive creatures, and even this I have already got used to.

I hope that these deaths have given a strong enough impulse to understand the full depth and palette of the problem that stands before me. And planning the death of Roose and his family was one of the most important projects; how easy it is to wish someone death knowing about the atrocities of a person, thoughts walked from imitation of Assassins to the invasion of Crows.

Naturally, both options were to some extent absurd with a huge number of holes, but as a possible option it has a chance to exist. Another important issue was the timing of when to put this family on fire; the option of later visiting King Robert is the worst. The advantages of this plan are only in the possible preservation of my knowledge about the future, which looked very controversial.

So it would be advisable to kill at least Roose before the king arrives. In that case, I can be calm for the Starks, and go beyond the Wall.

"Oh, dreams, dreams....."

And considering my statistics and status in general... It's sad in general...

A tangible impulse was surprisingly visible in the Magical field, but if you remember the gift from the Old Gods, then this is not so surprising. Of the weapons in the Arsenal at the moment, Sax and Tanto are sitting perfectly on my hands, unfortunately, the rest are too much for me at the moment.

And I carry the seax almost like a sword, because this knife takes up a third of my height. This knife weighs about a kilogram, maybe a little less, and I can swing continuously for about 4-5 hours. After that, my hands can't stand it anymore.

Tanto is slightly smaller in size than a Saxon, there is a significant difference in weight, this dagger feels like it weighs 500 grams. That's just that this dagger has very low functionality in use, more for finishing off in melee, while the seax could be quite successfully used in melee.

I wanted to use the wakizashi, but its total length with the handle was incredible for me, because at the moment it would look like a two-handed sword in the hands of an adult in my hands, in my eyes this inconvenience was not worth the candle.

The knowledge gained from the library and Maester Luwin was much more significant. At the moment, I can say about the device of Westeros in general terms, for example, the only lover of Duncan the Tall turns out to be Tywin's grandmother! I was also able to find out more or less about Essos, now I could tell in general terms the location of the Free Cities and the likely places where I should get to, Asshai was almost at the top of the list, but Old Valyria and Mossovia were at the very bottom. Old Valyria, of course, is a lost place, but Mossovia is due to the lack of information about this area and its proximity to the Thousand Islands.

The archipelago worries me for the reason that there are not really people living there, but green-skinned creatures that sacrifice sailors for their fish-like Gods, and you can get to Mossovia either through the sea or through the land of the Shrikes. The second option is also not viable. According to rumors and legends, either wild people or Lizardmen live in these lands. I don't really want to check what turns out to be true, in any case, the first and the second will most likely kill me.

With thoughts about the future, I did not notice the footsteps, or rather the stomping of feet, a small dark-haired girl with gray tear-stained eyes burst into my room. This baby is my beloved younger sister Arya, and someone should be afraid for their carcass because the one who made Arya cry is waiting for my punishment!

"What's wrong, little sister?" I asked, hugging the baby tightly, who did not stop crying.

After ten minutes of hugs and assurances that everything would be fine, Arya was able to calm down. And after the same amount of time, she was able to explain that after understanding the meaning of the word bastard, she thought that she was a bastard.

Most of the evening was spent explaining in general terms what a bastard is, and why cutie Arya is not a bastard.

"So you're not my brother?" this gray-eyed miracle asked me with a trembling voice.

To which I just smiled and said:

"You will always be my favorite little sister for me!"

Which was true, because I didn't know how you could not love such a little girl? In response, Arya hugged me so hard that I thought that's it and goodbye ribs.

After that, I had to convince her to go to her room. But to resist the puppy dog look... I couldn't do it. And I had to tell her all sorts of fairy tales until late at night so that she would fall asleep... And only then start reading, since practicing Magic would already be very dangerous. And I didn't plan to sleep anyway, because there were no sword classes scheduled for the next day. On the contrary, tomorrow was my day off.
