Dragon Devourer System

Note: The main character is male. The novel is written in 3rd person. I never could guess life would be this terrifying. In the past, I was a high-ranked adventurer looking for riches and fame, fulfilling every request of the Adventurer's Guild and gaining a substantial prestige. I still remember the old legends from my hometown, the legends of dragons, absolute beings who even the gods fear. And now, it seems I somehow got reincarnated into a dragon. ------------------------------------------------------------- The artwork does not belong to me and if anyone knows the artists of this work, please let me know and I will credit them. A Sealed Artifact

"What? You.. you… how is this possible? The secret artifacts were sealed… How did the Dragon Devourer System end up in your hands?!" The Empress stared at the white dragon with wide eyes, sweat forming on her forehead.

"Ehm… a Dragon Devourer System?" Jacob spoke. He would be normally afraid to interrupt her, but he was perplexed by how she referred to his System.

He assumed that the lack of a name was normal, as it was also the first time he heard about the existence of a System.

The System certainly seemed to have a vendetta against dragons, always asking him to kill or absorb dragon blood, but he had never heard the System's name before.

He guessed that since he was a dragon, the System would recommend the best prey for his growth. However, his thoughts were gradually changing, as now he knew that his System was made from an ancient Empire from eons ago.

Furthermore, his System was not unique, as the Empire produced several ones to fight the Gods. He began to wonder if there was anyone else in the world with a System like him, and how did they obtain their System, because he had no idea how he got his one.

"The Dragon Devourer System was one of our top-secret weapons. It was made in the event that the dragons turned against us, and it allows the user to grow stronger by absorbing the mana of a killed dragon." Ella explained patiently, but her eyes remained agitated.

Ella noticed the lost expression on the dragon's face and gave him a brief moment to gather himself. Taking a deep breath, the Impaler of Gods resumed the story.

"But the Grand War exploded before we could complete the artifact, so I gave the orders to seal this System along with a few others." The Empress let out a deep sigh. "The artifacts were dangerous, as they were so powerful that they would absorb all of the mana within their Host until they killed them."

"After the dragons joined the war, it was too late to retrieve the sealed artifacts. When we arrived at the sealed chamber, it was completely destroyed. The chamber was built with Divinantita, a material derived from refining the skin of a God."

"Aside from me, only a God could break into the sealed chamber. At that time, we assumed the Gods destroyed the artifacts, but I guess that theory is no longer valid now that you own one of them." The Empress concluded the story by removing her hand from the dragon's body.

She wanted to see if telling the dragon about the artifact's origins would be enough for him to figure out how he got the System. If it was not enough, she would still let him go. After all, she did not have any attachment to the Empire's old artifacts.

In fact, given that the artifact was too powerful to use, she doubted that the young white dragon would live much longer. She reasoned that he was still fine because the System had lost a lot of its previous energy.

Every artifact worked due to them absorbing the mana from their Host. After billions of years without a Host and only consuming the mana from the surroundings, Ella believed that after the dragon grew stronger, the System would reveal its true colors.

And she was right, but what she did not realize was that the System's mana consumption was higher than she had initially assumed. He had no problems so far because baby dragons could not use mana. As a result, the System continued to absorb mana from its surroundings.

After the Old Dragon appeared, the System's desire for mana skyrocketed, with the Elder Dragon serving as its food. But now he was a young dragon, not a baby dragon, and young dragons could use mana. It was unknown how much longer he would live.

Jacob's mind was a jumbled mess. The Empress had given him so much information about his System, but he still could not figure out how he ended up with a sealed artifact. Suddenly, he got an idea. What if the System was passed down through his family?

According to the Old Dragon's words, his family clan seemed to be a powerful and influential one among the dragon's race. However, he was totally clueless about how the dragon's race society worked, and only could understand a few things he picked up from the Old Dragon.

Perhaps if he went to Emperor Peak and found his family, he might get some answers. He found it to be a good idea. Even if his dragon family had no knowledge of the System, it was a good place to start with.

"Your Highness, I think I could have a clue about how I obtained the System. Might you please send us out of the Abyss? My family is waiting for my sister and me to return home. I promise to come back with answers." He decisively asked the Empress with the utmost respect he could muster.

Ella scoffed when she heard his request. "Are not you a bit too young to sound so mature?" She thought it was hilarious the way she was addressed by the young dragon and his way of speaking, as if he was older than his appearance suggested.

Despite this, the Empress agreed, and with a twist of her wrist, the entire room was enveloped in an intense purple light. The light was so bright that Jacob had to close his eyes to keep from going blind.

When he opened his eyes, he found himself standing on a ground filled with grass. Large and tall greenish trees surrounded him, with wild animal noises could be heard from time to time. At his side, a small white wall was resting in the grass, sleeping soundly.

At this time, he remembered that he still had the reward from the two completed quests. When he checked his Status, he saw the Trial Quest's reward, but he did not try to use his chance for the Divine Dragon Bloodline Pool.

He was eager to know what kind of dragon bloodline he would get from the Divine Dragon Bloodline Pool.

It seems there was a missunderstanding about Ella having a reverse harem. To clear any missunderstanding, I removed that part of the story. If you had previously read it, you can remove it from your memory.
