Chapter 7- Terror

'Arthur Midvake'

A name that was both familiar but wasn't at the same time. Apart from that one incident where they met on the street, chris had deemed it best to avoid him at all times. Due to the nature of nobles in society, the last thing chris needed was being in the crosshai-, no, even being noticed by him didn't sit right with him.

But what exactly did chris do to earn his ire to this degree. If the mayor wanted to, chris would be evicted as his words are law in this town. However, sending cethin the assassin of all people to dispatch chris seemed a little excessive considering he wasn't even an awakened till a few hours ago.

Chris long theorized Cethin being the mayor's personal hitman for a while now. With the hired quest of killing bandits posted at the Adventures Association that were causing a commotion being completed by one man, the disappearance of a rival noble after venturing in the wildlands south of the town etc. All of them seemed suspicious and would require manpower to make disappear.

The only reason chris believed his theory, was because he witnessed the rival noble going into the wildlands with not one but two advanced rank guards, so there was no way they just up and vanished into thin air, hence the need to avoid the mayor's radar at all costs.

The chances of Chris winning a fight head on with someone as skilled as Cethin who took down not one but two guards sharing the same rank as him was nigh impossible. Which left chris with one and only option...

...Escape.

Chris did plan to move out to a new city after awakening for better job offers and had some money saved up for travels, so all he needed to do was complete one more job to have enough and escape before the mayor catches wind of his escape.

Chris donned a dark cloak that obscured his appearance and left the inn using the back entrance early in the morning to get a head start as much as he can. His danger sense hadn't gone off, so he relied on his own stealth to avoid anyone's vision as he made his way to the association's building.

Chris needed 50 copper coins to complete his savings to move to a different town. His eyes scanned the bulletin board for available jobs and went with a goblin nest extermination paying him one silver coin for his troubles.

# CURRENCY

1 PLATINUM GOLD COIN= 1000 GOLD COIN

1 GOLD COIN= 100 SILVER COIN

1 SILVER COIN = 100 COPPER COIN

Without wasting more time chris headed straight to the area of sighting for these goblin nests that was situated close to the wildlands near the farmer's houses south of Midvake.

1 hour later....

After continuously trekking and occasionally sprinting with anxiety to this location he took note of the farmer's house in the distance and the dense flaura of trees 100 meters away in excitement as he dashed toward it with almost a zealous for battle possessing him.

Upon stopping in front of it, he hesitates to enter the forest. An image of a shadow standing over him brings him back to reality as fear of cethin washes over his body.

Steeling his nerves, he takes a step into it, and for the first time since awakening chris feels a pleasant sensation all over him almost instantly.

'This forest is enriched with mana', thought chris as a gentle smile shows on his face.

'Wait! why is a forest enriched with mana in the first place. If I'm not wrong there aren't any nature affinity creatures in this forest for it to suddenly be enriched to this state,' thought chris as he became extremely alert of his surroundings. Chris trekked in the enriched forest with caution until his ears picked up some unintelligible grumblings.

'Found you!' thought chris as he moved closer to the snarls becoming more and more louder.

Chris leans against a thick tree and to surveil his surroundings to certain how many goblins will fall to his blade.

Chris spots 5 goblins facing a cave and bickering amongst themselves in an unknown language, when suddenly...

WHOOOOOOSH!

A simple gale wind erupts from the cave terrifying both chris and the goblins stunning them both, as the sound of heavy, powerful and dreadful footsteps resound from the cave.

BOOM

BOOM

BOOM

The entire forest was silent was completely silent, as if any sound at all was considered heresy and blasphemous and the footsteps became louder and louder filling chris with anxiety. But he still couldn't move.

BOOM

An inhumanely tall onyx suit of armor with obsidian gauntlets reveals itself from the cave gazing at it's intruders. Well if it had a head it could, yet chris judged the oppressive suit or armor didn't need one to obliterate him with his eyes clos-

Ok that's insensitive, moving on.....

BOOM

BOOM

BOOM

BOOM

BOOM

Before Chris could blink, the onyx suit of armor balled up it's fists and literally turned the green goblins into green mist by straight up punching them.

Chris was cursing his luck for being in this entity's path, and silently trying to devise a way to escape. But after turning the goblins to paste the onyx abruptly stops and looks in Chris's direction.

'Oh shit,' thought chris.

Instead the onyx armor dashes forward at staggering speeds and punches an air a few meters behind chris.

SPLUUURT!

What could be described as a mangled goblin corpse with disheveled clothes fell in front of the onyx armor.

'S-SHAMAN!' thought chris

A higher tier of goblin capable of using magic and has a higher intelligence compared to the common goblin was using an invisibility spell on itself, but it appeared as though it couldn't escape its senses.

The onyx armor calmly turns around and walked towards the cave it came from. However, reaching chris it stopped, and stared at chris as if trying to peer through his soul.

Chris though, was feeling an immense sense of dread and terror and feel his will growing weaker around this entity and prepared himself for death.

The onyx armor stopped staring and walked away towards the cave and vanished into thin air.

The feeling of being petrified left him, and he fell to the floor, sprawling all over it trying to get his bearings and bolted out of the enriched forest as fast as he can.

Yet, there was an invisible wall stopping him from leaving the area. Chris spent hours running around, racking his brain for an escape until he came to a conclusion that he probably needed to enter the cave. Even if it was basically suicide, it was better than dying of hunger and thirst.

Chris steeled his nerves and stepped though the cave. He felt a weird sensation dance all over his body, like passing through an air-like membrane of sorts.

The cave consisted a single canal leading into a single room, that much was obvious from where he stood at the entrance but as he kept walking and finally reaching the room, he was shocked beyond belief.

'I-Is that...a throne'.
