Caught Off Guard

His valiant cry woke those who were still trembling with their fear, and the chorus sound from the gun brought them a flint of hope.

Tatatata!!

The more they heard the gun fire, the more they regained a portion of confidence and fought back as well.

Meanwhile, Jason moved in between the people, making sure to target the dead humans and the lioness corpse.

While he was doing so, he heard a scream come from his right, a bit further back. He turned around to check the source of the scream, and he found a woman running towards him.

"Wait, why do I feel like I know– Oh, isn't that the woman who..." He paused, seeing what was chasing the woman.

Not just any woman though, but the same woman who had been lucky enough to survive out of the first five to go out.

She was running as fast as she could, and the predator behind her was also chasing as fast as it could. But even then, it was obvious who was faster between the two.

The woman.

"...She's quite the runner." She was really running for her life. Jason was amazed.

But then clicked his tongue in annoyance and was prepared to kill the lioness for the few Hunting Points.

Regrettably, he was a tad bit too slow, for before he could even do that, gun fire rang out and the next moment, the lioness was gone.

It was hit by a series of almost ten bullets and lost balance of it's body, crashing down heavily on the floor before losing its life.

Jason paused. The woman paused. They both turned to look at the direction of the man that held the gun. He did not mind them and instead surveyed the environment.

His eyes went everywhere like a hawk's eye, making sure that every lioness was gone.

He then rushed over to help the commander, who now had two supporters alive out of the initial five of them.

Jason could only click his tongue in annoyance and move towards the lioness corpse. The woman who just so happened to be in the way, cautiously held her dagger and pointed it at him.

"Stop!! Wa,watch your ste,steps!!" She moved back as he moved over. Jason paused and helplessly shook his head, then continued over.

The woman retreated all the way until she was behind the lion's corpse. She was trembling slightly, and almost at the verge of screaming out for help.

'What a psycho.' Jason thought while he crouched down before the lioness corpse and placed his hand above it. A few notices appeared before him.

"Oh? Now that's a bonus." Jason let out such a cry of surprise as he obtained new notices from his Talent for once. Most important one was the one from the [Decipher(D)].

He then stood up and left to do more of his 'job'. As for the woman, she just stood there in relief. She could not bring herself to trust anyone here.

But she herself was not strong. She also knew that she was beautiful. And they were a lot of men around here, especially those like that one that just came and left, Jason.

She believed he was pressurized by the gun, and if it was not because of that, he would have done something indecent to her. Or worse, kill her off.

Once Jason was gone, she slumped down her shoulders in relief and hurried back to the group with plenty of people. Especially where they were females.

Once there, she got along with a young fifteen year old, and a thirteen year old girl. She herself seemed to be in college, hence the two felt safe around her, than around the man.

As for Jason, he made a sprint towards another lioness corpse and lay his hand over its corpse. And as he expected, a notice appeared from his Talents.

Jason did not agree yet and moved on towards the last corpse of the lioness. 'What would come out of a 100% decipheration?' He was curious.

He placed his hand over it, but before his Talent could take effect, he felt something hot press against his neck, slightly burning him.

"You move, I shoot." Then a valiant voice he was more than used to right now, rang directly from behind him.

"..."

Jason paused and did not move from his position. 'Well I'll be be dammed. Fuck.'

From the corner of his eyes, he could tell that the Great Lion was killed off. And the fact that this man was here, proved that even more.

Another thing he could tell was that everyone was focused on them, all remaining eyes were on him at this moment. 'The attention... it's too blaring.'

'Yes.' Jason responded within his mind. Something told him that whatever information that would come out of this would help him out a lot right now.

Jason skimmed through everything on the notice and did not move. 'Talk about being a threat. And they are just ordinary at evolved lions.' Only his thoughts did.

All the while, he had frozen in the position of touching the lioness corpse, while crouching down. He felt uncomfortable.

The man behind him said, "I'll give you three second to give me a proper reason why I should not kill you." His words were stern and final.

Yet Jason did not hesitate to respond, "Do you have any reason to kill me?" He inquired fearlessly, yet his tone was still humble.

"I have plenty." The man said.

Jason retorted, "If you want to kill me, just do it. Don't try to find baseless reasons to do so. Makes you seem a bit..." He did not finish his words.

The man also paused, then a moment later, he sighed and changed his question. "You have been following us for a long time, using us for your own selfish gains."

"While we on the other hand, lost eight members, and have a few more badly wounded. And you? Still perfectly fine. Now tell me, is your life worth more than eight lives?" He ultimately questioned, his tone filled to the brim with rage.

"..."

Jason paused. The question was a serious one, and his brain couldn't generate a quick response, that wouldn't get him killed.

'I could tell him the truth but... Nah, fuck it. I'm telling him the truth.' He thought, despite knowing that this might decreases his chances of living.

"I would say, yes. To myself, my life matters more. But then again, I do not understand how those that died relates to me. I did not kill them, nor did I result in them dying."

He responded, and the man seemed to be angered even more by his bluntness.

But Jason ignored that, "All I did was collect information from the corpses of the things that you killed, and also to check a few after effects of being killed by them on the humans."
