The Dimensional Chat Group

Before this whole story kicks off, just a few important things to say before you decide to read this book. First of all, this is a harem story, but it isn't a catch them all scenario where very girl he meets and knows is a potential love interest. The harem will be slow progressing, and I will try my best to develop said relationships the best I can.

Secondly, this story will have a few dark themes involved, so be warned. I certainly won't write things like r*pe, I wouldn't be able to stomach it. There might be mention of it though, it just won't physically happen. Anyway, the chapter is a bit of an info dump, but enjoy anyway.

Well, here's the 'rewrite' of this chapter. I have also been given some comments previously on the first iteration about my character being too cautious, should I change that? I'm personally a very cautious individual so I based my character off of myself, I don't mind trying to change his personality, but it will be kind of difficult.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

Kusanagi Kenji.

That was his name, at least his new name.

It had been more than sixteen years now since he had been reborn into this version of Japan, a parallel version that is, and the family he had been into was just as loving and caring towards him as his old one was. He had even received the same name he answered to previously, the only difference was his new family name.

He could remember vividly the way he died, burning to death when a massive fire broke out in his school. He wouldn't at all be surprised if other students suffered the same fate, a very painful and horrifying way to die. He definitely sends his regards to the students who went through the same as him.

Aside from that, having lived in this world for sixteen whole years now, he had pretty much gotten used to the fact that he died. It was a definite hard pill to swallow at first, but he eventually came to accept the reality of it and moved on. At least he was given a second chance, for that he was truly grateful.

Due to the mere fact that he was reincarnated, he had come to find himself very open minded towards the existence of supernatural forces. However, seeing it for himself still made him question his sanity. In front of him was a holographic screen, one which when touched felt as if he had touched a pane of cold glass.

These past sixteen years were nothing crazy, if anything, they were completely normal. The only supernatural event that he had experienced was being reborn, and that was more than crazy enough for him.

"A dimensional... chat group?"

As Kenji stood in front of the mirror fixing his uniform, that was the time when this strange screen had appeared to him. His initial reaction was to just stare at it, mainly because he thought he was just hallucinating its existence.

Before continuing though, Kenji was a young man no older than sixteen. While his overall appearance could have him mistaken as eighteen or so, he was truly sixteen. He was rather tall for his age, along with his athletic build he attained from continuous training in his local gym.

Kenji's skin was slightly pale, although not an unhealthy pale, along with a pair of vibrant pink eyes that were sharp along the edges. His hair was pure white, and had strands running down over his right eye. He knew very well that his appearance could label him as a delinquent, but he couldn't care less about that.

Despite his seemingly cold and intimidating demeanour, he was quite friendly on the inside.

Moving on, back to the chat group screen.

『You have been invited to the Dimension Chat Group. Would you like to accept? (Accept/Decline)』

Kenji stared at the screen for a second before a small frown formed on his face, he was pondering whether or not it'd be a good idea to accept. He was enjoying his new life, but if he was completely honest, there was very little about it that was considered... exciting.

He understood the phrase 'Curiosity killed the cat', but he was honestly curious to find out what this whole thing was about. The term 'chat group' was familiar to him, but the word 'dimension' threw him in a bit of a loop. If he were to take its name literally, this thing might literally connect multiple dimensions that exist out there.

If he was still in his old mindset, then he'd seriously question his sanity. However, after going through reincarnation, it wasn't nearly as farfetched as it would have been. Shaking his head, Kenji gave a deep breath before tapping his finger onto the 'Accept' option.

'I really hope I don't regret this...'

『Invitation has been accepted. Welcome to the Dimensional Chat Group』

『As the first member to join the group from the four sent invitations, you have been given a starter package. Would you like to open it now? (Yes/No)』

"A starter package?" Kenji blinked at this. He took note of the other few words this screen presented, there seemed to be three others out there who were probably experiencing the same thing as him. Since he was given this package, he was probably the only one who's accepted so far. "Might as well..."

When Kenji tapped onto the 'Yes' option, the screen blanked out for a second before a column of dot points appeared with text that kept rapidly changing. They were moving so fast that only when they started slowing down could Kenji finally make out the letters.

.

『You have received』

● 250,000,000 Yen

● World Travel Ticket (Amount: 3)

● Reactive Adaptation (Ability)

.

Kenji's mind clocked out completed on the last two items as his attention was solely on the first thing, the insane amount of money that this screen displayed. A singing sound was heard in his room as Kenji slowly reached into his pocket, taking out his phone

"What... the fuck." Kenji gasped slightly when the sound was due to a notification. The message sent told him that cash had just been deposited into his account, a whole damn 250,000,000 Yen! The very same amount the chat group specified! "This is real... holy shit! Wait, hold on, what if my parents find out...?!"

Kenji was ecstatic about the amount of money he had, but he was also very concerned about what'd happen if his parents somehow found out. They'd swarm him with countless questions he wouldn't know how to answer, they'd probably think he was gambling or was doing illegal shit.

Calming down, although forcefully, Kenji made sure to take note that he needed to keep watch on how he spent this money. If he was stupid and went to buy things like a house, along with freaking supercars, he'd be welcoming a crimson red fucking flag.

"World travel tickets, huh? Pretty safe to assume they do exactly what I think they do..." Kenji looked down towards the next item on the list and nodded his head. However, his attention was mainly on the third. "Reactive Adaptation...? It says it's an ability. Chat group, can you give me details...?"

He wasn't expecting to receive an actual response, but he was pleasantly surprised when a new screen appeared right next to the list of items. The new screen gave him various details regarding his ability, the new ability he gained that is.

.

『Reactive Adaptation』

The power belonging to the vicious monster known as Doomsday, an ability that proved to be the sole power that allowed Doomsday to become the overpowered beast that his enemies came to know him to be.

Effects:

● When the user suffers through pain, and upon recovering from said injury and/or pain, the user's body will force itself to adapt and grow to resist whatever was the cause of said pain. Alongside that, the user will experience a growth in physical strength upon recovering. The degree of resistance gained and amount of power attained will be in accordance to how fatal and painful said injury was.

● The user also gains an immense healing factor, allowing the user to regenerate lost limbs in a matter of mere seconds. On top of that, if the user finds themselves killed, this ability will activate autonomously to bring back the user within mere moments after death. Upon being revived, the user's physical power and resistance the user had prior to death will be doubled at the very least.

● Due to the nature of this ability, the user is also capable of evolving when placed under certain conditions. The user may experience the automatic development of new abilities when exposed to certain stimuli and in response to a need of evolution

.

"Hold on... as in from the DC universe?" Kenji felt his right eye twitch repeatedly and uncontrollably as he read this. He knew very well who Doomsday was, the literal overpowered weapon of destruction that brought great amounts of pain to the literal Man of Steel. "You're fucking joking..."

Doomsday was notorious for his overpowered ability to not only resurrect himself after death, but to become extremely resistant to the cause of said death. It was because of this simple yet overpowered ability that the superheroes had such incredibly difficulty dealing with him.

As Kenji read the information over again, this was very much like HP Doomsday with how he can adapt mid-battle and not just after death. A common misconception from what he understood was that Doomsday becomes immune to things that kill him, but that wasn't entirely correct.

If Doomsday is killed by something, he just develops an extreme resistance to the cause of death to the degree that he was killed. Meaning, as long as someone capable of dishing out more power compared to what killed Doomsday the same way before, they could still seriously injure him.

If anything, killing Doomsday was worse than letting him live.

Doomsday doesn't just adapt, he evolves. While Kenji doubted that Doomsday could adapt to become immune to physics in general, or something like magic as a whole, he could at least evolve in a way to counter or become completely immune to specific forms. Such as if a magic spell targeted his heart, his body would evolve to prevent that from happening again.

This incredible ability...was now his.

"Haha~..." He couldn't help but release a laugh about the situation he found himself. He was a normal high school student mere moments ago, and in less than five minutes, he became a potential future embodiment of chaos and power. "Will I grow spikes and bones out of my body? That'd be hard to explain..."

If that were to happen in the future, he'd have to figure something out. He couldn't just walk out in public as a hulking mass of protruding bones and spikes.

Anyway, as of right now, even with this ability, he was still no stronger than he was before. He hadn't experienced what Doomsday has endured, and this world, at least to his knowledge, didn't have overpowered beings like Superman to give his body a reason to evolve.

"Wait, if I'm reading this right, isn't this even better than Doomsday?" Kenji read the information again for the third time before noticing a particular detail. "If I can resurrect in only a few moments, isn't that even better than Doomsday?"

Unless he was mistaken, Doomsday could take months to years to revive himself, it entirely depended on the degree in which he was killed. If that factor didn't matter to Kenji, then that meant no matter how overpowered and attack was that kills him, he'd just revive pretty instantaneously.

If this assumption was true... damn, he was overpowered.

Questionable and concerning thoughts did enter his mind though, perhaps if he decided to drown himself or force himself to starve would his body develop the ability to survive without basic human needs. He could literally even stab himself with a knife to build up physical resistance.

He wasn't suicidal or psychotic... somewhat.

Thankfully though, as he was going through all kinds of questionable ideas, the chat group screen caught his attention once more as the screen shifted to a blank chat box screen. Very similar to the ones you would find on social media chat group pages.

『Dimensional Chat Group Members』

● The Final Doomsday

● Invitation pending...

● Invitation pending...

● Invitation pending...

.

"The other members haven't accepted yet, not surprising." Kenji couldn't blame them, they were probably more cautious about it than he was. If a screen just appeared in front of you, it would be weird if you weren't at least questioning it. "The Final Doomsday, huh? Fitting name."

"Kenji, come down and eat breakfast! You need to get going soon!"

"Okay, mom! I'll be down in a moment!"

With a swipe of his hands, Kenji was glad to see that the action caused the chat group screen to close down as if it were an internet browser. He didn't want to have that screen in front of his face twenty-four-seven, that would be honestly jarring to no small extent.

For now, he had to eat breakfast and get to school. He and his family had only recently moved here to town a few days ago from Tokyo, and his parents had enrolled him here in the nearby school. If he remembered correctly, the school was named after the town itself.

"What the hell was it called... oh yeah, Kuoh Academy. Why does it sound so damn familiar? Whatever, probably just my imagination."
