Doctor Who The Mechanic: Chapter 1 Death and Second Life

3rd Person Pov

The world is not as straightforward as some would like and no one knows when there time is up, such is the fate of one average man, who's only passion was working with machines not knowing that today was the day he would die saving a little girl from being hit by a truck,fortunately or unfortunately depending how one looks at it his choice to save that girl had granted him a second chance.

It all started as a normal day for a man in his early 20 he found a job he likes working as he spends most of his time with cars as a mechanic at a local repair shop, despite this one specialisation he is proficient when working with any form of machine it was like he lived just for the purpose of fixing them, not that he minded in fact he loves doing it other than that he was an big fan of sci-fi this led to him to being a fan of doctor who although he only started it during the latter incarnations from 9 upwards.

Not long after finishing his shift he was heading home to watch the latest episode of Doctor who excited to see what mystery will be brought forth, also hoping for some hint into who ruby really is as there are a lot of theories online guessing who she really is but only the show runner,writer and the cast will know the answer, but the likely hood of them spilling the truth is slim, while in his thoughts the man hears a scream causing him to break his train of thought to see a woman screaming at a little girl on the road telling her to run.

Behind the little girl was a moving truck without much thought the man bolted towards the child just before the truck could hit the girl She was pushed out of the way only to see a man get hit by the truck that would have hit her.

In a black void a slightly transparent body of a man is flouting without a single movement as if not aware what has happened as well as where it is not long later the body begins to steer as the man's eyes open " where am I this is not what I expected after my death well it should be death since it's definitely not a hospital" looking around to see if anything is to indicate where he is but nothing until white words appear Infront of his eyes

Due to sacrificing your life for an innocent life who was fated to save the lives of 2.7 billion lives a second chance at life has been given

Note this life will be in another reality

You will get to choose the race you will become and also any abilities( due note that abilities that belong to the race are different from actual abilities meaning you will have both racial and personal abilities)

1) human (a race known for their resilience but are incredibly reluctant to admit it's not at the top of the food chain in the universe. Note will do anything to deny the existence of aliens unless they are connected to one. I.e unit connected to the doctor and Torchwood was founded by queen Elizabeth after the werewolf attacked her )

2)Dalek(Race that was genetically made by Davros this race is extremely racist and wants to cleanse the universe of all other races)

3)Time Lord( Race of being who possesses the ability to regenerate allowing them to have 13 versions of themselves, do note this is a self imposed limit and could be removed with the right method. Also choosing this option will put you after the time war on earth 21st century with all skills of a time lord sealed for 2 months and 3 weeks before the fob watch can be opened your memories of your past life and knowledge of the universe will also be sealed in the fob watch)

Not thinking much the man already knew his answer which was Time Lord and as he made the choice in his head the words disappear or rather change confirming his choice.

Now for abilities ( do not default abilities of a time lord have been removed from the selection since it would be redundant to have the ability twice)

With that a roulette wheel appears In front of the man with move sections then he could count wondering if he has to reach out to spin to his surprise it spins the moment the thought of it spinning appears in his head .

Not long after the wheel begins to slow down before it stops on the smallest section without much thought the man reads it aloud or what would be aloud if he could speak" assimilate" as he reads those words the wheel disappears and words take its place.

Ability: Assimilate

Level 1

At level 1 allows the user to learn skills by seeing it being used while also allowing for easier learning of knowledge or self learnt skills also allows for the use of skills the users stats do not meet the requirements for however after using this function it will leave the user in a weakened state depending on their race(note for a time lord due to the unique regeneration properties will only be weakened for 2 seconds at most)

Seeing that his ability can level and become more powerful he was content with the ability it would allow him to learn fast saving so much time but he is unsure what he is supposed to do since he has not been told if he is supposed to fix something or not as he was wondering what to do he got a reply.

Beginning rebirth note all memories will be sealed all race skills and benefits of race will also be sealed this world is separate from others any changes you make will not affect any other realities or what these realities know about the world as for your purpose that's up to you...Good luck.

Before the man can think anything else his vision goes dark before his translucent body disappears from the void but not before a voice of a woman who can be assumed to be the one who sent the text that the man had seen " I hope things work out and he will choose a path he truly desires not one he was limited to" after the last word is spoken the void returns to silence.

???'s pov

I open my eyes to see I am on my bed, as I try to get up my head starts throbbing in pain. I rush getting up heading into the bathroom where I keep some aspirin, as I arrive I quickly take the tablets" what the hell was I doing last night that gave me a hangover this bad".

I think back to what I did yesterday" right there was a new resident that moved in we all went to Jackie's to have a welcoming party". I really should have not drank so much, good job Rose stayed at Mickie's last night otherwise Jackie would have to deal with two hangovers.

The thought of Jackie running around her apartment with a hangover while trying to deal with her hungover daughter was amusing to say the least, as for the reason there's a welcome party it's because those of us living in this apartment building do not have much money, but what we do have is skills taken me for example I am good with electronic while the guy who lives above Jackie is a Plummer, so we help each other to save on unnecessary spending.

What's weird or lucky is that every possible problem that could go wrong in one of the apartments there is someone who has the skills to fix it it's strange really, either the landlord did it on purpose to save money or one of the residents has tremendous luck.

After taking the aspirin and finishing my thoughts I leave the bathroom heading to the living room, as I enter I notice the old fob watch that sits of the fireplace mantle, although it's broken I can not bring myself to get rid of it, despite the fact I do not remember where I got it, but I still keep it here where I can see it throughout the day.

The weirdest thing about it I sometimes find myself zoning out just looking at hit, it's one of the reasons I am reluctant to have people over, well that and the fact that the fob watch is the only thing that makes the living room look personal, no other items are on display not even photos of family.

That's due to them dying while I was young, I do not remember much of them other than the last words they said to me.

Flashback

" Nick we will be back, we just have to go see an old friend who owes us a favour" after my mother says this she stands up from the crouched position she was in, so she could talk to me face to face.

After she was up my Dad came up to me, putting his hand of my shoulder before speaking" son no matter what everyone says you are special, me and your mother will always love you and would never leave you alone for even a second if it was not necessary, be brave prove that you are better than those bullies" after finishing he follows behind my mother leaving me in the house with my grandparents.

As for what he was referring to I was always smart for my age, this caused me to be the target for bullies but despite all their attempts I never let it get to me.

However despite their promises they never came back, not long later they were found dead the car they were using was in an accident killing them instantly.

Flashback End

Since that day I lived with my grandparents however they were already old, on my 18 birthday my grandfather collapsed, after he was sent to the hospital he was told he did not have long left but he gave me one last bit of guidance " always follow your heart" at the time I did not get what he meant, unfortunately I could not ask either he passed away the next day.

As for my grandmother she lasted 2 more years but unfortunately she too embraced death, this left me alone in the world, however during those 2 years after my grandfather's death I realised what he meant trust yourself, never be forced to follow someone else's plan for you.

This was what he meant that day, after figuring this out I made it my mission to live how I wanted and learning what I wanted, this is what led to me learning mechanics, unlike what most would assume not just car mechanics I learned every form of mechanical knowledge i could.

What surprised me though was that I was good at it, even finished university early because I already had learned the knowledge for the final year, normally it would be impossible to do this, but after seeing my knowledge and skills the university applied for me to do my last year's stuff a year early.

After graduation I moved into this apartment and worked at the local mechanic shop, that was 3 years ago, I am now 23 but despite my young age the residents of this apartment still seek my aide when needed, even the landlord lowers my rent since i help maintain the building's wiring.

After thinking of everything that's happened to me I walk to the kitchen open the fridge, taking out a can of coke cola, opening the can I take a drink before heading back to the living room, taking the TV remote and turning the TV on.
