Thank You, Satan!

A child closed his eyes waiting patiently for Christmas to come. The cold permeated into this bedroom as the minutes ticked by. The only sound that could be heard was the slow breathing by the little boy.

At a minute past midnight, tapping on the boy's window could be heard. The boy opened his eyes noticing the tapping grow more frequent in rhythm as the time passed.

The boy stood up off his mat and opened the shabby window curtains. Outside, he saw a blonde haired man with perfectly white skin and blue eyes. He wore a simply grey suit and black tie. The man noticed the child behind the window and gave it another three taps before smiling at the boy, signaling him to let him in.

The stared dumbfounded at the blonde haired man but his hands reflexively reached for the window's locks to open them. Once opened, the blonde haired man pulled the window open and let a cold gush of air flood into the room.

The only candle in the room blew out and only moonlight could brighten up the space beside the window, where the blonde haired man and the young boy now stood.

"Did I scare you, Jacob?" asked the blonde haired man.

"You… you know me?!" Jacob didn't know the man before him yet he knew of his name. Jacob backed himself to the window and was like a cornered mouse.

The blonde haired man dusted off his coat and straightened himself out. "Don't be afraid Jacob! You wrote to me, remember?" the blonde haired man pulled from his pocket an envelope labelled "SATAN". "You wrote me, didn't you?" asked the blonde haired man.

"Santa?" Jacob rubbed his eyes to see if he was dreaming. "Is that really you?"

The blonde haired man was taken aback by Jacob's question. "Santa?"

"Yes Santa! I knew you'd come! I wrote you my Christmas Wish! I've been a good boy all year! I promise!" exclaimed Jacob as he rang to hug the blonde haired man.

"Cough… So Santa eh?! Well, why don't you just call me by my name? I have one you know?" mused the blonde haired man as he pat Jacob's head.

"You do?!" Jacob was surprised but he felt happy to be able to address Santa in a more personal way.

"My real name is Lucifer." Lucifer bowed to Jacob. "I am the one you call Sat… I mean Santa! Merry Christmas to you, Jacob!"

Jacob clasped his hands together as his eyes finally began to glow brightly. "It really is you! I knew you were real! Even if the boys in class said you weren't, I still believed in you SANTA!"

"Why don't we sit on the floor and talk under the moonlight, Jacob?" invited Lucifer.

The two sat on the floor and began to chat.

"I'm sorry I can't offer you any milk and cookies SANTA. I really don't have much with me." Jacob worried of being unable to provide anything decent for Lucifer even now that he had come to grant his wish.

Lucifer waved his hand to Jacob. "It's alright, Jacob. I'd rather we talk, just the two of us."

"What do you want to talk about Santa?" asked Jacob

"Well, about your wish. Can you tell me about them?" inquired Lucifer.

Jacob blushed and rubbed his hands together to quell his anxiety. "Um… Well, you see, my dad was a very strong lumberjack. He had these big muscles and a thick beard. You could hear him from a mile away when he laughs. He had such a hearty laugh. When he tells stories, it doesn't feel right if I don't hear him laugh even once."

"He must have been a great dad." stated Lucifer.

"Yes! The BEST!" exclaimed Jacob as he raised his hands in the air. "Mom was great too! She used to sew my clothes for me, tuck me into bed and even take care of me when I was sick! She even used to sing for me before I go to sleep every single night." Jacob suddenly had a bitter sweet smile on his face.

Jacob continued to share stories of his parents to Lucifer. Minutes turned to hours but Jacob had a lot of stories to share to 'Santa'. The moonlight continued to light up the space by the window, but the true light in the room was Jacob as he told all his stories of how wonderful a family he had.

As Jacob finished his tenth story, a sound could be heard coming from outside the room.

"It's almost dawn! Jacob, I had come here to help you with your wish. But in order to do that we have to go before the sun fully rises in the east." explained Lucifer.

"Where will we go?" asked Jacob.

"To grant your wish Jacob. You can finally be with them again!" said Lucifer.

"Really?! I can really get my wish?" Jacob excitedly asked as he ran in front of Lucifer.

Lucifer smiled and said, "I did say I will grant your wish didn't I? I know it has been hard for you all these months. But you won't have to go through that anymore. So, come with me and you can finally be by your parents' side."

Jacob was ecstatic to finally be able to get his wish. He reach his hand to hold onto Lucifer's. The moment they touched, a bright light flashed all around Lucifer as wings appeared behind him! The only detail that Jacob could see was the silhouette of an Angel.

Once the bright flash died down, sunlight entered through the window. The place where Jacob and Lucifer once stood was now empty. The rays slowly crept in more and reached the foot of a sleeping mat. On it lie a cold and lifeless body of a boy that was holding a crumpled piece of paper in his hands with a faint smile on his face.

On the crumbled paper were written with the last three words of the boy named Jacob.

"THANK YOU SATAN!"
