Christmas with Satan [2/5]

Chapter 02: Debate with the Devil

On earth, it was still the night of 24th and there were people gathering together outside and celebrating. But the person who created a havoc in the underworld realm was sound asleep in her house.

She had no idea that her letter summoned the ruler of demons into the human world. And the consequences of doing so were not something anyone could even imagine.

At this moment, inside the house, the clock displayed half past one. The fire in the fireplace has long burned out. Then suddenly, a soundless red lighting struck and reignited the fire. And from the fire, walked out a tall handsome man in black robes with blazing horns on his head and a long dark tail behind him.

He walked in and glanced at the sofa where little Bayley was sleeping peacefully. He looked around and sat down as a majestic throne materialized under him.

'Sleeping peacefully? Not anymore.'

He then waved his hand slightly and turned to side as put his legs on the armrest of the throne, making himself comfortable in someone else's house.

'Someone else's house? The human-realm itself is my playground. So what if this revered one makes himself comfortable? Sue me – isn't that what you humans do for every trivial matter.'

Little Bayley twitched slightly, before she slowly opened her eyes as she sat up. She was still in a daze as she yawned. Clearly she didn't have enough sleep. She gently rubbed her eyes and looked around before finding a black clothed man lazily lying in an extravagant chair.

'Extravagant chair? Are you trying to provoke this wicked one's fury?'

He turned to Bayley and spoke."Inviting this exalted one to his filthy realm and then not even receiving us? What a manner-less host. Doesn't matter, this compassionate one will not mind these petty things anymore. Now, hurry and attend to this kind one."

Bayley furrowed her brows as she spoke. "Who are you? How did you get in?" She then looked around but found no other presence. "Mom? Dad?"

They promised they would be back before she woke up so why wasn't anyone answering her.

The one who knew everything kept his mouth shut and continued to stare at his prey, trying to find amusement in her predicament.

Bayley quickly realized that there was no one in the house and her heart started beating rapidly as she shrank back into the sofa. "Are you a… thief?" she asked with a trembling voice.

" Please don't hurt me. I don't have any money, but you can take my presents if you want. They are under the Christmas tree." She pointed to towards the green tree and added. "I decorated it myself, isn't it good?"

The 'patient one' was listening to her quietly as his forehead began to twitch.

'Thief? I should take her presents? And what happened to that damn tree?'

"But stealing is bad. Santa will put you on the naughty list and you won't receive anymore gifts." Bayley spoke, as she tried to pull him away from going down the wrong path.

"You stinky brat. How does this mighty one look like a lowly thief to you?"

"So, you don't want my presents?" Bayley tilted her head to side and asked in confusion.

Then she smiled brightly and continued. "That's good. My teacher says that thieves are punished-"

"IM. NOT. A. THIEF. YOU. IGNORANT. HUMAN." The 'tolerant one' was trying hard to reign in his temper.

"You're not? Then, why did you get into my house? And who are you?"

Satan was irate and couldn't continue to take anymore so he begrudgingly introduced himself. "This great one is the ruler of underworld and leader of the fallen. I go by many names but you can call me Satan."

"Satan? What are strange name?" she tilted her head to the other side and then she suddenly raised her head in shock. "Are you one of those salesmen? My mom said not to open the door for them because they are very annoying."

'This little wretch… Didn't I just introduce myself clearly? Ah, I forgot how annoying humans can be and this little brat is calling me annoying.'

Little Bayley could not be faulted here. She is only seven years old, and she doesn't know anything about fallen or the underworld. They are new and strange terms to her, and everything she doesn't understand, her brain ignores it involuntarily.

"My name is Satan and I'm the king of demons!" The 'loud one' bellowed impatiently. "I came here because you invited me."

"I invited you? But I don't even know you." Bayley answered in confusion.

The 'irritated one' couldn't be bothered to continue arguing with the 'gullible one', so he waved his hand and a letter materialized in the air and flew towards Bayley.

Bayley was startled and leaned back into the sofa as the letter came to a halt in front of her face. But the shock and fear upon witnessing the magical act was easily brushed aside when caught sight of the familiar handwriting on the paper.

She raised her hands and took the letter into her hands as she confirmed her suspicion.

"This is my letter, I wrote it Santa. Not to you."

"No, you wrote it to me, look carefully."

"No, I wrote it to Santa. Here, see – Dear Sa…tan?" She frowned and looked at the letter properly. "Aah… I made a mistake!"

*Twitch*

"Hehe, I made a spelling mistake. I wanted to write Santa, but accidently wrote Satan. But I rarely make spelling mistakes. Aah, this is so embarrassing!"

*Twitch twitch*

"Wait, does that mean my letter didn't reach Santa?" Bayley was feeling sad and disappointed. But there was someone else who was feeling much worse.

The 'ignored one' was extremely irritated and depressed. And he was angry too because he didn't even knew he could feel that way.

"Aww… what should I do now? Can I write another letter? But it's already Christmas day." She looked the clock and realized it's the 25th already. "Santa would be out giving presents to everyone."

*Twitch twitch twitch*

"Maybe I should give up this year and-"

The 'overlooked one' finally had enough and immediately brought himself right in front of Bayley, halting her monologue. He stared at her with his burning silver gaze as he spoke in a deep voice. "I am here, aren't I?"

"So… you are Santa?"

*Twitch twitch twitch twitch*

He abruptly stood up as the throne behind him quietly disappeared. The dark malevolent aura seeped out of him as his eyes glowed with fire. The dark horns on his head were lighting up his face as he lowered his gaze to Bayley and she immediately floated up into air before him.

She was extremely terrified but she was unable to move her gaze away from those burning silver ones. Its as if her whole body was paralyzed, but she didn't know whether it was because of fear or because of the man- no, the devil in front of him.

"Do I look like Santa?" The 'angered one' asked, slowly and calmly. Bayley could only gulp and she couldn't even shake her head as she was sure no words would come out of her mouth. She was actually wondering why she wasn't bawling right now? There was no way she could face the devil with her courage alone.

"Then, Who am I?" The 'terrible one' looked down at her, his sinister eyes boring into her. When he didn't hear any answer he realized that he probably overdid it, so he withdrew his aura as his appearance turned normal. "Speak."

He casually sat down as the throne instantly materialized under him once again. Bayley was also set down on the ground as he looked at her with interest.

'Such a true pure soul! It didn't even quiver under my influence.'

As if a heavy burden was lifted off her, Bayley found words rolling out of her mouth. "You're Satan?" She replied, still confused about everything.

'Finally!' He smirked as he looked at her. "Yes, this handsome one is Satan. Now come, fall at my feet and worship this glorified one."

"You came here because of my letter?" she asked, surprised and shocked that her letter actually brought a devil to her home.

Even though Bayley once again ignored his words, the 'kind one' sympathized with her situation and decided to clear her doubts.

"Yes, I'm here to grant your wish."

"So, you will be my friend?"

"Yes I will." He answered in a nonchalant manner, not knowing what he was getting himself into.

The cause of this whole event, the letter which was thrown aside and long forgotten suddenly started to shine with dazzling glow.

The 'prideful one' was shocked as a white ray of light shot out towards him, but even he couldn't block it as the ray penetrated into his forehead.

He was once again surprised by the turns of events as he fell into a trap because of his pride.

"What- what just happened?" Bayley asked with a shocked face. Although she didn't clearly see what happened, she saw her letter glowing brightly which blinded her eyes for a moment.

Satan looked at her as if she was some kind of unfathomable creature as he realized that now he was bound to his pledge to fulfill her wish.

He felt a cold shiver down his spine as he stared hatefully at the piece of paper which now practically made the king of underworld into this little brat's personal slave.

But, what's in that letter?

'Dear Satan,

I don't know if you are real or not. I don't know if I've been a good girl or not, and I don't know if you can grant my wishes. But if I can have one wish, just one wish, then…

I wish for a friend who will play with me and listen to everything I say. They should never lie to me and never break their promises to me. They should always stay with me and never let me feel lonely. Ever.'
