Izuku spat out congealed blood from his scream fest the previous night. It was disgusting, looking down at his hands he didn't see his tattoo, his quirk was inactive. Even so, he felt nothing but a feeling of emptiness. Walking over to his computer, he sat down and began to alter some code.
>Request a Haunting with the Spirit Network
> Assassination, information, and other services. Simply post "I would like a haunting" and a ghost will be along to inquire as to your needs.
It would send a different message, but he paused before hitting enter. Some aspect of him hated this way of gaining power. He recognized the feeling and added a third line to his ad.
>Reduced price with proof of hero status.
He felt satisfied adding that piece of information – he still would be a hero, even if it meant he couldn't be one officially. He was a weapon, a tool to be used, and so he would prefer to be a tool for the heroes.
The empty feeling did not vanish, so he dived into work.
> I would like a haunting
> ASL?
> Smol Light School. Please connect me to Revenant.
> Yes ma'am
> This is Revenant. How may I be of service today Miss Kanaya?
> I need a body guard, and an assassination. I've picked up a stalker.
> I am not trained to be a body guard.
> You will pretend to be my boyfriend or girlfriend then, I'm sure you have someone who can change your physical appearance. Identify the stalker and kill them. Simple enough right?
> I suppose.
> Good! I'll begin requesting your presence tomorrow, you already know my home address, so simply follow me to work school, I attend a private academy and am allowed personnel due to my celebrity status.
> Of course. Any desired attire? I doubt my combat equipment would be very conspicuous.
> Suit and tie. It's an all-girls school, so no uniforms for you.
> How unfortunate.
> Don't back sass me Revenant. Also, you'll need a cover name for this to work.
> Rev
> That is incredibly boring and direct, don't you want to preserve your identity more?
> No one knows what I look like, and considering my hair looks exactly like Takane Shijou's I already stand out
> YOUR HAIR LOOKS LIKE WHAT?
> I lost a bet.
> Okay, fine! Whatever! Rev!
> How comfortable are you with physical intimacy? Because my persona is very affectionate.
> Wouldn't know, this is my life.
> Sad, good I can write it off as a charity case. I'll get on the phone with my agent and get all of this cleared for the media fallout.
> Is that all you will need from me?
> I think so…
> Then let's discuss payment, considering I normally make around a million every week from my various jobs, I would consider that a reasonable price for a week of protection. The hit will depend upon the target(s).
> 2 weeks bought.
> That was fast. I'll see you tomorrow Kanaya.
> Eli, my persona goes by their first name.
> Understood.
> Hopefully we can clear this before Valentine's day – people go crazy for idols around that time period.
Izuku let out a sigh as he called Giran to have a suit prepared. The last two months had seen the Spirit Network grow in reputation considerably. He acted as Revenant full time, leaving his personal life behind in favor of being a stronger weapon. He had asked Sensei for more enhancements, and the demigod of crime had yet to respond to his inquiries, he was tempted to hunt down the doctor directly to get enhancements. Izuku knew better to do that though, he lived by Sensei's grace and still had to uphold their deal. It had hardly been a year since they began working in conjunction with one another.
On the bright side he had begun chatting with the Yakuza employee, he seemed nice enough, equally dead inside, but nice enough nonetheless.
His inquiry into Dead Arms had drawn him to his target, Dead Arms himself. He knew the man's meeting place, quirk and as much physical information as possible. Now he was just waiting for a break in his schedule to execute the man. He flared up his quirk letting the feeling sweet like ambrosia fill his body, he was going to tear the man apart. He had idly fantasized about destroying the man in the most painful ways, each person he killed a new experience he would use to absolutely shred the man to his last nerve ending before snuffing out his life. It would be bloody, it would be painful for him, it would satisfy his need to destroy that man, the fool that let him live.
Izuku settled his quirk and suited up, prowling for criminals. He had picked up some light vigilante work on slow nights, patrolling the red-light district as a brutal wraith. It helped to pass the time and train his mobility; he could not rely overly on his bike after all. Stepping out onto the roof of his warehouse Izuku took a deep breath and focused his quirk.
It had become temperamental, constantly pushing him to work more, grow stronger, and kill. At times it flowed like a serene graceful river, and other times it roared like a blaze worse than Endeavor's Hellfire. He exhaled heavily, his quirk settling for just a firestorm, people might end up crippled tonight – not that he would have an issue with that. Leaping between the warehouses Izuku made his way toward the city center, eyes peeled for any less than desirable character who would suffer Revenant's justice this night.
An hour later he found himself standing over a mugger with broken legs, he had been a bit rough with this one. It was unfortunate, the man seemed to have an interesting quirk – but his usage was atrocious. Revenant walked forward and knelt over the crying man. A quick punch to the man's temple landed him on the ground, unconscious. Searching the man's body, he found a phone and sent an alert to the police. He knew his beatings would never garner any real credit, but still texting the cops that Revenant had just beaten up a criminal was a decent means of ensuring they were at least picked up. Sending the text, Revenant sighed standing up, this man was no trouble for him to deal with.
Pink smoke began to surround him. Midnight, she had been a thorn in his side for the past 3 weeks, first on HiddenAffairs asking for information frequently, which in of itself was no issue, but constantly pestering him to switch sides and give up the Spirit Network was becoming a hassle. He let out a sigh as her quirk filled the air around him, harmless due to his gas mask, turning to face the R18 heroine. She didn't have her whip in her hands – she was likely to try and talk with him.
"You call that guy in already?"
"Mugging"
"Come with me, I want to talk to you, young man."
"I don't think so madame hero" Revenant taunted.
Midnight pulled out her whip and threw it out lazily, Revenant caught the whip easily and gave her a look.
"Just come with me, or we're gonna have to fight," Midnight tried.
"Don't threaten me with a good time, I got kicked out of all the fighting rings for beating up too many people. Why would I want to talk with you? I'm a hired killer." Revenant reminded the hero of his own identity.
"Yeah yeah, I just want to talk tonight though, so come along and I'll step on you" she said flirtatiously, adding a wink just for good measure.
Revenant rolled his eyes. "Can I just trade a piece of relevant information to get out of this?"
"Depends on the info I suppose, but I don't think you'll-"
"Your little Zentoki has a date tomorrow," Midnight was shut up by the statement. She shot him a look of confusion with eyes wide. "with Eli Kanaya, the Idol who replaced Takane Shijou."
"No FUCKING WAY!" Midnight yelled getting excited and angry at the idea her child had not told her about his date. "That little shit! You're off the hook for tonight Revenant, but if I see you again, we are going to talk!" Midnight seethed pulling back her whip and leaving.
'Wait, fuck I'm Zentoki.' Revenant realized as he watched her leave, thankful that she didn't know his first name, and that as Revenant he wore his hair in a pony tail or braid.
> ASL?
> Smol Light School. ASL?
> Revenant. There has been an issue, the hero Midnight is going to be stalking me tomorrow.
> WHAT THE HELL HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO GET THAT WHORE TO STALK YOU OH MY GOD THIS IS TOO FUCKIN FUNNY AHAHAHAH
> Laugh it up, its just going to make my job harder to pass as your date.
> Alright, how do we rectify this?
> I've met her before outside of my revenant uniform, at that time I used the name Zentoki. We will be using that name instead of Rev.
> Zentoki is not a first name buddy. :/
> Then my first name will be Ren, it's slightly less suspicious than Rev, also any practice you've had since you ordered this contract will still be applicable.
> Geeze, you sure live a wild life.
> Getting stalked by a pro hero? An R18 one at that? I would hate to see what sorts of things you get up to that would draw her attention.
> I work as an informant, assassin and anything else someone pays me for, what did you expect? A life of luxury in the seat of wealth?
> I suppose considering the amount of money you make.
> Most of it goes to my equipment and services of contacts who use their quirks to help in one way or another.
> I also pay considerable due to the Spirit Network itself, gotta pay the bills somehow.
> still it's pretty incredible you aren't rolling in it given you apparently make a million weekly.
> I haven't been doing this very long, and good gear is expensive, so are bills.
> Debt?
> Not too much fiscal, mostly a life debt – only 42 more months until it is paid.
> Damn Spirit Network is a harsh mistress.
> Higher up the chain Kanaya
> Oh, oh
> Yup, someone you really shouldn't ever owe anything to? I owed them 4 years of my life.
> Yikes. I need to sleep, see you tomorrow Ren Zentoki~ <3
> You are going to be the death of me, I can feel it.
Izuku leaned back in his chair and waited for Midnight's message to arrive. There was no way it wouldn't she looked upset when she let him leave earlier. Playing double life with her was easy enough however, lying to her face should she try to chaperone his work would be much more difficult.
> ASL?
> Too Young! Too Young! Country, ASL?
> YOUR MOTHER YOUNG MAN! WHEN WERE YOU GOING TO TELL ME YOU HAD A DATE!
> What! How did you find out! We were so quiet!
> I'm a hero, you can never hide anything form me – you foolish child o' mine. Now tell me how you two met.
> Well I attended a party she threw a while back and we've chatted a bit since then. I kinda liked her and asked her out!
> Oh my sweet, little idol child. My beautiful son, my graceful rebel, my child, you are precious!
> Oh? Is that all?
> Yup! Because now I can meet you in person, since I bet everyone and their mother will be posting about you two little love birds <3
> Mom, no~
> Mommy Yes!
> Please don't embarrass me!
> Oh don't worry I already have it all planned out now that I'm not planning to chain you in the naughty room.
> Why am I not surprised you have a sex dungeon?
> Because I am somehow not surprised at that.
> It is because we met on a sex website, and flirted with each other for weeks before I realized you were literally younger than me. You know some of my kinks honey, you know what I'm about.
> And tomorrow you'll get to experience it in person >:3c
> I'm going back to calling you Teach. This is a total breech of trust and boundaries.
> Oh you sweet summer child.
> You are my son now. Deal with it.
Izuku grimaced, he had interacted with her in person enough times to know she was the type to make good on annoying challenges like this. He closed the chat window, something that would likely get him an earful when she showed up to crash his "date" tomorrow. The prospect of trying to balance his professionalism and quirk with the overbearing hero was daunting, and not in a way that made him happy.
He needed a drink, and to pick up his suit from Giran.
