Chapter 7

Rowen was already having her morning run by five in the morning and she could see that not only her but few other people were also running, she was restless, afraid and wanted her parents comfort but she was told they will be around only when the challenge starts that evening, she was thinking that the alpha wants to keep her secluded, for reasons she can’t fathom, even Mara has disappeared after dinner but she refused to let anyone see her suffering, that fake smile will remain in her face, even if it’s the last thing she do.

She finished her run, on coming out of the bathroom, she had a loud knock, but she took her time going to the door, what’s the worst that could happen. She opened to Mara who was about raising her hand to knock again.

“Sorry Mara, I was taking a bath”. She saw that Mara hands were loaded with a tray filled with different kinds of delicacy; she opened the door widely for her to come in.

“You have to eat a lot today, Rowen, you will really need it” Mara was a little bit fidgety.

“What is it, Mara?”.

“Am sorry Rowen, it’s just that I found out who is competing with you today, she’s vicious, I have watched Eve since she became one of the lethal, I will give you a clue”. Everyone was giving her clues lately Rowen thought. “don’t attack her, be more defensive, play around with her until she gets tired, then attack, Rowen look at me”.

“You are scaring the hell out of Mara”.

“It was not my intent to that, but remember this, you will have only one chance for an attack, after that, you are really on your own”.

Mara left immediately after that, but Rowen was disturbed, she tried to eat but she could not, she paced round the room and caused her mate in seven languages for making her go through this, she wished the moon goddess granted her a mate that cares not that idiot. She wanted to reject him but unlike the stories that says you can, she actually could not, you cannot reject your true mate, its actually for life.

She laid down and decided to rest, she knows that she will really need it. She actually slept off. She was tired, after so much worry.

She woke up when she had a loud knock, she ran to the door and Mara was there again “what now Mara?”

“What do you mean what now, you are twenty minutes late, everyone already gathered”.

“crap”. she ran inside the room, put on the pants and top she already brought out and hoped she will be flexible in it. She ran out with Mara and they approached the field where a crowed already gathered, she saw a well-muscled lady standing on the field tapping her legs.

“Mara, I hope that’s not the Eve you are talking about”.

“That is actually the Eve, remember everything I told you, don’t attack”

“Jeez Mara, do you see stupidity written on my fore head”. She looked around and saw her family waving at her, she waved back and hope they do not see how scared she was.

“Am going to live you now dear, please be fine”.

“Thank you for the tip, Mara, I now appreciate it”. Rowen was already sweating but the weather was actually cold, she walked inside the field and people started cheering, she knows it was not for her but the beating she will be getting today.

“What’s with the delay Rowen, I thought you have given up already”.

Rowen did not answer, she knows that this lady wants her to respond so she could pound her to the earth but she will not indulge her.

“I hate been ignored but I will get my response when am done with you”.

As if in tow, someone began to beat the ancient drum signifying that the challenge has already began, she loosened her muscle in a fighting stance.

Before she could settle herself properly, a force hit her squarely on the stomach, Rowen was already airborne, she crashed heavily on her side and she felt a rib crack. But she stood up with speed and notice that crowed was cheering the smiling Eve.

“Have you accepted that you can’t fight your betters?”.

Rowen still did not answer her, her rib was already cracked, and she wants to save every strength she had, but she noticed that her silence was annoying Eve.

Eve made a move again, but this time around she was expecting it, she phased fast that only few noticed but Eve certainly did, because one moment she was there and the next she was not there.

“How the hell did you do that?”. Eve thundered, but Rowen refused to indulge her, the crowed became deadly calm, and yes this is when the challenge actually started Rowen thought.

Eve came again with speed again and Rowen kept phasing with speed of light, everyone as stunned, Eve was getting tired same with Rowen her energy was depleting rapidly, phasing was something only her family knows she could do but it depletes her energy.

Eve became angry and changed into her wolf completely she roared angrily at Rowen and charged at her, everyone was screaming at Rowen to do the same but nobody noticed her father smiling, if they had noticed it, they would have guessed her next move. Immediately Eve’s wolf jumped to tackle Rowen down, Rowen slide low under the wolf with speed, phased only her hand and tore the stomach of the wolf, everyone knows that was their weakest part. Eve’s wolf landed heavily and did not get up again. Rowen turned and felt pity immediately, the intestine of the wolf was almost gushing out but she knows that Eve will be fine in days. She turned and everyone started clapping, her brothers were whopping with joy, her mum crying she knows her baby was in pain. Rowen tried to move but she noticed she could not move, her rib was severely broken, she had to change totally into her wolf and that act brought total silence again, she understood why they were silent, her wolf was pure white and huge, you rarely see a white wolf, it has been thousands of years that a white wolf was last seen. But Rowen was not ready to wallow in pride of her wolf, she was losing consciousness rapidly and wants to sleep. Her wolf was the one keeping her standing, she ran out of the field and kept running until she entered her room locked the door and fainted.

She did not know her mate had followed her silently.
