Chapter 8

“I heard you up and about. I didn’t want you to have to wait for your breakfast, and it’s on the house, by the way.” Her smile reminded me of something predatory that I saw on a nature channel once. “When should I book a table for you and Randy at the diner, dear?”

“Um, I’d best talk to him, to see if he even wants to grab a meal with me, before I commit.”

She snorted. “Of course he wants to grab a meal with you. And anything else he can get his mitts on, as well. He is an Edmond, after all.”

After breakfast, I went to Subway to get a sandwich for my dinner that evening. Amanda was there once again.

“Oh hi, I didn’t know you were replacing John when you came in the other day. Welcome to Elk Pond. The boss told me to give you a voucher for a pair of subs. You can use them next time you’re in with Brett Edmond,” she said.

“Next time? I’ve never been in with Mr. Edmond before. Why does it have to be with him?”
