The feeling inside was both sad and freeing as we finally got home away from the Wally World base. The thoughts of my nephews stayed in my mind as I knew that they were alive and well. It was going to be a long and dreadful trip, but it was going to be worth it in the end. I smiled at the idea of having my family back like it was five or six years ago. How we would laugh and smile about anything and everything as kids. There was no thought about death or having to survive the harsh lands and hordes of zombies.
"Lize," Jones spoke, "is it a good idea to leave so soon?"
"I think it would be a good start," I replied, "to find a home of our own."
"True," he sighed, "but it's close to winter, and would be hard to find a place to live."
"We'll be okay," I answered with a smile as we slowly packed our things into bags, but we would need something larger to move most of our stuff. Jones knew what I was thinking as he held a pair of keys in hand as I smiled. I didn't know what to do but looked outside to see an old pickup truck. It already had my bike tied down in the back, but also a closed-in trailer to place our stuff in. Over time box by box was placed inside as we finally agree it would be the next night that we would move.
The walls were empty, and the sounds of technology were gone as we lay there on our bed for the last time. Blankets and pillows would be the last things to pack as we leave for the two or more-hour trip to Springfield. Jones looked worried about us going up there and I could understand why. I was a couple of months pregnant and moving house would be the last thing we would want to do. All I knew was that it was going to be a girl from the Devil's virus, but something seemed more off than before as my belly seemed to be growing double in size. I breathed in and out as I looked over at him.
"Do you think we should live outside of Springfield?" I questioned
"It would be better than clearing out a house," he replied, "if lucky we can have a few farm animals as well."
"That would be nice," I smiled, "a peaceful lifestyle."
"Agreed," he lightly laughed
The idea of having a home away from the idea of zombies, cults, or even other groups made me happy. We lay there thinking about what we wanted to do for our lives and not of survival of the fittest. The feeling of his hand lying there on my belly as I curled up closer to his chest made me feel happy. I knew that Jade would try to keep us here, but I think it was for the best for us to move on. Not having to fight like before and settling down with a family.
The feeling of my eyes started to drop as the idea of sleep came closer to my mind. The feelings of the cloth of our blankets made it easier to let go. We had nothing to fear anymore as the Blood Cult was gone and there seemed to be that light at the end of the tunnel. The darkness came peacefully as I thought of nothing but seeing my family and making a new home once again.
