Through Doctor Manhattan's sharing, Kara has almost learned about his entire experience.
Actually, he didn't need to let her see so much, did he?
Kara silently complained with a wry smile.
At the earliest moments, Kara even saw Doctor Manhattan's memories from when he was little Jon, including the times he studied with his father, a watchmaker, as a child.
She also discovered one additional detail—Jon's name could also be translated as Jonathan.
Really, Jonathan was too much, wasn't he?
Because of the times and the war, little Jonathan's childhood was far from peaceful. There was no other way—this was the state of the world then.
His father changed his mind after the detonation of the world's first atomic bomb, ultimately deciding to send Jonathan to study atomic physics instead of inheriting the family's watch repair business.
This shift completely altered Jonathan's fate, leading to his transformation into Doctor Manhattan.
In this independent universe, Doctor Manhattan is considered the only known superpowered individual, and he is directly labeled as the strongest by his world's narrative.
Indeed, as long as the Watchmen universe and the DC universe remain unmerged, he is effectively the only true god in this world.
But Doctor Manhattan did not carry the mindset of a god. He chose to serve a particular nation, helping them win a war within a week that had previously been lost.
Kara couldn't help but sigh. "This was the turning point of fate. Because of your power, the politicians of your country began to believe they were untouchable, even ignoring another major player on the global stage."
It was obvious who she meant; specifics about real-world nations couldn't be mentioned directly.
Kara continued, "And because of that, the Cold War, which could have passed without much harm, has now escalated into a crisis always on the brink of breaking out.
"In the end, these are the consequences you brought. If you truly consider yourself a god, you shouldn't have intervened. Between mortals, you shouldn't play favorites with a single nation."
Kara's harsh critique left Doctor Manhattan silent.
He had been to Kara's universe, understanding that while it lacked superheroes, the Cold War in her world ended without erupting into nuclear conflict.
Yet in his own universe, his mere presence had intensified Cold War tensions.
Kara continued to observe his experiences and eventually understood why Doctor Manhattan had exiled himself to Mars.
Just a few days prior, Doctor Manhattan had participated in a live television interview. However, it did not go smoothly.
During the program, while Doctor Manhattan was preparing to answer questions about quantum mechanics, someone in the audience accused him of bringing misfortune to everyone around him. They even blamed him for coworkers and loved ones developing cancer, including his ex-wife.
Doctor Manhattan had once been married to a beautiful woman but later left her for a younger and more alluring Laurie, the second-generation Silk Spectre.
Kara pouted. "What a scumbag…"
Years later, he discovered that his ex-wife had been diagnosed with cancer as well. This revelation shook him deeply. Could it be true that he brought harm to those close to him?
The audience and press at the interview erupted in fervor, demanding accountability.
Unable to bear the accusations or pressure, Doctor Manhattan retreated to Mars and built his device there.
His story ended here.
Kara was unimpressed. "So why exactly did Laurie cheat on you?"
She had yet to see the full context of their breakup.
Doctor Manhattan remained silent. This was what she cared about?
"Alright, you've got to stay strong." Kara patted Doctor Manhattan's shoulder in mock encouragement, though her tone carried a tinge of amusement.
Still, her words seemed oddly ambiguous.
Doctor Manhattan shook his head. "I didn't bring you to this universe to entertain you. You understand the situation. If a nuclear war breaks out, the entire world will face its end, and everyone will die."
He hadn't forgotten the purpose of bringing Kara into his world.
"So, what do you think I should do? Watch passively or intervene?"
Kara knew that he wasn't just asking for a suggestion—he needed a reason. If she urged him to act, he wanted a rationale behind her stance.
Shrugging, Kara said, "This is your world. You should ask yourself what you want to do. What is it you truly want right now?"
Doctor Manhattan thought for a moment and answered without hesitation. "I want to ask Laurie why she betrayed me."
"Pfft…" Kara quickly covered her mouth to stifle a laugh.
She almost wanted to suggest that Doctor Manhattan dye his blue skin green.
"Then go ask her already. Don't worry about me—I can't die, and if I need to get back to Earth, I'll manage," Kara waved him off, more intrigued by the device he had constructed on Mars.
Doctor Manhattan watched as Kara approached the machine, her gaze fixed on Earth.
Moments later, Doctor Manhattan dissolved into a blue light and disappeared.
At first, it seemed like nothing had changed. The universe continued on as usual, with no one sensing any difference.
Only Kara noticed the shift, as though the ground beneath her feet—the entire fabric of the universe—had been suddenly yanked away.
Losing her balance, Kara instinctively began to fall but recovered quickly, using her ability to fly.
Her expression shifted to one of shock as she exclaimed, "Did you seriously move the entire universe? Damn, this little blue man is insane!"
She realized just how unfathomable Doctor Manhattan's power was.
In the entire universe, only Kara could feel the magnitude of his actions. The rest of existence remained blissfully unaware, even the brightest minds of Earth.
Kara was dumbfounded. How much power did it take to do something like this?
However, she also understood that her connection with Doctor Manhattan granted her unique insight. If they ever fought, it wouldn't be like anything else in existence.
Unlike Doctor Manhattan, whose form was constructed from quantum particles and could be endlessly reconstructed, Kara wielded the ability to impose the concept of death itself.
Though they had a good relationship, they were more like two tigers on a single mountain. One mountain cannot hold two tigers, as the saying goes.
Still, people often overlook the continuation: "Unless one is male and the other is female."
Kara smirked slightly at the thought, but her focus returned to the device before her. She needed answers—and soon.
