Chapter 856: Splendid Stars (Part 1)_1

The fall in New York is quite passionate, the warm-coloured fallen leaves are not symbols of life gradually withering away. When they float down from tree branches, they embrace pedestrians beneath the trees with a kind of resolute determination.

In the bustling commercial street of the Manhattan Area, being wrapped in their steel walls, vitality was lost. Yet, in slightly remote places, bright red fruits were left on fences outside buildings after the roses had shriveled and the design on the gate railing carries an American country style.

A clean hand approached the railing but without touching it, the iron gate was pushed open, a pair of boots stepped on the thick fallen leaves in the yard, producing a crisp sound.

Polaris, making her way into the building, took off her scarf, exhaled a breath, wiped the fine sweat beads from her forehead, and said to the receptionist at the front desk: "Hello, my name is Lorna Dane, I have an appointment."

"Alright, please wait a moment." The receptionist smiled and checked appointment records on the computer. As Polaris waited at the front desk, she sighed slightly, her stunning face couldn't conceal her exhaustion, her eyes shaded by dark circles.

"Hello, please follow me." The receptionist pointed to the corridor, Polaris followed behind her. Both of them took the elevator to the upper floor, left the elevator, and arrived at an office door; the receptionist knocked and a gentle voice came from inside: "Come in."

The receptionist stood by the door, Polaris pushed the door open herself. Shiller behind the desk pushed up his glasses and said, "Miss Dane, right? Please take a seat. You've booked the 5:00-9:00 PM session for today's therapy. We have half an hour left. Please sit for a moment while I finish handling these documents."

"Alright, Dr. Rodriguez." Polaris didn't say much, she took a seat on the visitor sofa.

The Shiller behind the desk wrote something as he talked, "Honestly, Miss Dane, I was quite surprised when I got your appointment. After all, there is no psychiatrist better than Professor Xavier in this world. I heard you have a good relationship. Why not seek treatment from him?"

Polaris slightly lowered her head, brushing her green long hair behind her ear with her hand. Shiller glanced at her movements.

Polaris seldom appears so gentle, most of the time she's passionate and assertive, seemingly unapproachable. It's hard to say whether she's actually gentle now, or simply exhausted.

Before she spoke, Polaris sighed. This sigh contained too many complex emotions that she didn't know where to start when she was about to speak. But after a momentary pause, she began.

"This all started when Professor Charles found me a job..."

The job as a cosmic patrol officer that Charles found for Polaris could be said to be a perfect fit for her abilities. The only problem was that the workload was heavy, it was really tiring and it had made an indelible contribution to the possibility of a third world war.

After doing this job for three days, Stark stopped Polaris from continuing her space exploration. Polaris felt angry and thought he was just making a fuss, thus she didn't plan to pay attention to him and intended to go to work as usual the next day.

What she didn't expect was that she would encounter Magneto Erik at the door of her rented apartment that very night.

It was a night in the autumn, the temperature dropped that evening. After being exhausted from working for a day, Polaris couldn't eat dinner. She casually bought a taco from the roadside, took out her keys intending to open the door as she exited the elevator.

At that moment, her keen senses felt a shift in the magnetic field. With a turn of her head, Polaris saw Magneto standing at the end of the corridor, the moonlight pouring in through the window extended his shadow out long, like a candle about to burn out.

At that instant, Polaris felt her heart shock, her hand shook and her keys dropped to the ground, making a clear noise.

Then she saw her keys floating up, inserted into the lock of her apartment door, and the door was opened for her.

Polaris's arm trembled slightly, she turned her head to shout at Magneto, "What are you doing?! What are you doing here?! Why are you here?"

Magneto did not say a word, he merely walked forward and used his gaze to instruct Polaris to enter the door. Polaris, with her trembling arm, pushed the door open and went in. After entering, she turned and said to Magneto, "… you cannot come in!"

"What are you here for?" Polaris asked again.

"You recently got a new job…" Magneto's low voice echoed in the corridor, vibrating like a magnetic wave.

Polaris, supporting herself against the door frame, took a deep breath and said, "Yes, so what? You dismissed me, don't I even have the right to find another job?!"

Before Magneto could open his mouth, Polaris continued, "Alright, fine, I know. It must be Professor X, telling you again about how I am not studying, but I just don't enjoy staying at that broken school!"

"What's there? There's just a bunch of little brats! You know what they do every day? They freeze the entire teaching building and then set it on fire, electrocuting all the leaves till they fall off, or smashing a large hole in the wall…"

"Do you want me to play with them? These foolish, short-sighted, ever-present kids who don't realize disaster is just around the corner, how can I stay with them?!"
