Batman moved slowly through the dark sewers.
Before leaving the sewers, he needed to scout, just like he had said previously, it was highly improbable for Bat Cat to set up a surveillance network that completely covered Gotham with no blind spots.
Perhaps it was plausible if Batman had ten or twenty years, but according to Crocodile Cat, Bat Cat had only been here for four or five years, remodelling the city itself had consumed a great deal of this time. Therefore, there must be numerous flaws in the current surveillance network.
Probing from under the manhole cover to survey the surrounding environment, Batman gradually built a mental route map of the CCTV patrolling.
Having roughly finished the map, he discovered a medium-sized gap in the patrol route.
If looked at from the ground level, the patrol route was very comprehensive, with almost no openings to exploit. However, there was indeed a group of cameras that were not conducting adequate checks on the ground, or more specifically, on the ground area near the manhole covers, during certain time periods.
This was rather interesting, Batman knew this couldn't count as a gap. If he were them, he would also put more emphasis on monitoring rooftops and balconies of the buildings on the ground, while ignoring the less conspicuous ground level. Comparing the two, rooftops were naturally more important. After all, higher points have always been crucial in all strategies.
However, this seemed like a loophole deliberately left for Batman, allowing him to seize the opportunity to transition to the surface discreetly.
Coincidentally, the gap in the patrol route appeared at night, enabling Batman to use his fur color and timid lighting as a disguise to shift to the ground safely.
Batman felt that all of this was too coincidental, as though someone was intentionally guiding him to do so.
However, there wasn't time for hesitation. He had to race against time in all of his surface activities, carefully tracing all the gaps in the surveillance swapping path, then he could reach his target.
Luckily, the bank where the incident happened was not too far away from the sewer outlet where Batman showed up. It was only two blocks away. As long as he was slightly careful, he would go unnoticed.
At that moment, Batman realized that cats were naturally born as hunters. Their hearing was extremely acute; they could instantly react to the slightest movement.
This sharp sense of hearing helped Batman evade many dangers until he arrived at the bank where the incident happened during the day.
Then, a certain scent entered Batman's nose. An acute sense of smell is one of the primary features of the feline family. Batman obviously knew this, but his human brain couldn't identify what the scent was.
He could only say it smelled a bit foul and eccentric. The scent analyzed by the cat's olfactory nerve didn't match anything in Batman's pre-existing knowledge. However, he remembered this peculiar scent in case it came up again.
After inspecting the road surface where the body was found, Batman hid in the shadows next to the bank and began pondering methods to enter the bank.
This wasn't an easy task. Every door and window of the bank was under Bat Cat's control, currently all closed. To get in, he would need to break the doors or windows.
Destroying the doors or windows would alert Bat Cat, and with his current abilities, Batman didn't believe he could defeat all the devices in the city.
Batman wanted to know how Bat Cat managed the control, so he decided to probe a bit.
He aimed at one of the window locks, intending to break it. However, merely with claws and Fang wouldn't do the job, so he deliberately exposed his whereabouts, letting an automatic turret from the corner of another building spot him.
Then, he tactically drew the automatic turret to attack the window lock. Under the rain of bullets from the turret, the lock was shattered instantly, so was the glass.
The building sounded off intense alarms, but Batman didn't enter the building. He was merely trying to see how long it would take Bat Cat to react and how he would arrive here, he would then decide his course of action accordingly.
Thus, he took advantage of the moments when the CCTV and automated weapons weren't paying attention, jumped to the top of another building, lay low with his tail clinging to the ground, and intently watched in that direction.
After half a day, Bat Cat didn't show up, but a somewhat familiar cat did. It was the white cat wearing police gear he had seen near the crime scene during the day.
The white cat brought quite a few police cats to inspect the scene. Suddenly, he started sniffing the ground intently. Batman, perched on the rooftop, began to feel tense.
He had been a human for so many years and had only dealt with humans as opponents. He had forgotten that a cat's movements would leave a scent that other cats could acutely catch. Just because he couldn't understand these scents didn't mean these cats couldn't.
Soon, following the scent, the white cat arrived at Batman's building. He looked up, and Batman was sure the white cat had seen him. Just as he tensed up to flee, the white cat suddenly looked back down, pretending nothing had happened, flicked his tail, and left.
Batman breathed a sigh of relief, but at the same time, he started to wonder. Why did the white police cat ignore him? Could it be he was mistaken for Bat Cat?
But that's not right, a cat is not just recognized by its looks, judging from this white cat's demeanor, it should be an important officer in the police department. He could not be unfamiliar with Bat Cat's scent. Batman and Bat Cat's scents are not the same, he couldn't possibly get them mixed up.
However, not only did that white officer cat not arrest Batman, but he also led his subordinates to the police car, preparing to leave.
Realizing that he was being ignored, Bat Cat's courage grew a little. He jumped down from the rooftop, arriving on the corner of a balcony, where he heard the conversation from the police car.
"Boss, are you sure it's okay not to take care of that window? Also, I seem to smell a strange scent, shouldn't we investigate? "
"No need, didn't you realize Bat Cat hasn't shown up? To replace the window lock, remake the glass, he certainly has to be consulted. Haven't you noticed how busy he's been lately? "
Batman keenly noticed that the white cat raised his voice and said, "Just now, I called him, and his intelligent butler told me he had gone out. Moreover, he left urgently without taking his communicator. Maybe something urgent came up, we shouldn't disturb him."
After speaking, the police car drove away. The light from the flashing siren shone on Batman's face, illuminating his narrow eyes and expression of doubt.
The departing officer cat revealed critical information. Bat Cat had left in a hurry, even leaving behind his communication device. This indicated that even if Batman's sabotage was transmitted to Bat Cat's base by these monitors, he likely wouldn't be able to see it at the moment; this was exactly the perfect opportunity for action.
Therefore, without any further hesitation, Batman swiftly jumped out. In a few strides, he arrived in front of that shattered window, and then entered the interior of the bank building.
In the basement, Victor was discussing freeze technology with Freeze Cat. He indirectly asked about some technical details, but it was clear that Freeze Cat didn't trust him and was unwilling to reveal too much.
As the two cats were carefully probing each other, an alarm sounded in the base. Crocodile Cat rushed in, exclaiming, "Something's happened above ground! Our hidden surveillance equipment has been destroyed. We need to go check it out!"
Clark flew in immediately and said, "Let's go! I'll take you guys up there. I can protect you from the automatic weapons!"
To avoid exposing their location, the cats moved to a manhole cover far from the base before coming to the surface. As soon as they arrived, they saw that the automatic weapons were all firing frantically, and several cat figures were dashing through the hail of bullets.
"That's Bane Cat!" Freeze Cat identified the cat leading the group, and said, "Bat Cat's old foe, a lunatic and criminal. Wasn't he supposed to be in the Insane Cat Hospital? How..."
"Damn it, that's Bat Cat!" Crocodile Cat suddenly shouted. He saw Bat Cat, fully armed and chasing after Bane and the other cats. Bat Cat was piloting a floating saucer, equipped with many weapons. It was extremely powerful and at that moment, was targeting the escaped insane cats.
When dealing with Bat Cat, Freeze Cat didn't hesitate. He adjusted the weapon on his back, jumped up to a higher position, and fired a few ice cones. The cones flew out with a "whoosh" sound, freezing one side of Bat Cat's saucer's weapons.
Seizing this moment, Bane escaped the coverage of fire. He looked back at Freeze Cat and let out a sharp cry. Clark understood what he meant—"Kill Bat Cat!"
Before Clark could dissuade him, the weapons frozen by Bat Cat were defrosted. The powerful weapons swept across and a shell exploded at Clark's side, singeing the fur of Crocodile Cat who was trying to dodge. Without any choice, Clark could only protect himself and the cats nearby.
Clark flew up and quickly headed towards Bat Cat's saucer. With a "bang," he knocked the saucer flying.
Then, a burst of heat ray from his eyes destroyed one side of the weaponry, and the saucer wobbled and started to crash. Before it hit the ground, Bat Cat had ejected from it, controlling an aviation exoskeleton that looked like bat wings. He looked at Clark floating in mid-air and angrily said: "You damn rat!"
"You can't do this, Bat Cat, it's wrong to imprison all the citizens. Not everyone may need your control; even if you want to do good, you can't use this method." Clark said with stern righteousness.
"Outsider, you have no right to tell me how to treat Gotham. Go back to your own city, we don't need you here!" The wind created by the steel wings on Bat Cat's back ruffled the fur of the few cats, making them constantly flutter..
With a cold hum, Bat Cat's wings transformed rapidly, and many small weapons combined, and drones flew out from both sides of his shoulders, surrounding the cats.
Crocodile Cat, Bane Cat, Freeze Cat and other insane cats that escaped from the Insane Cat Hospital stood back to back, bodies crouched, fangs bared, and ears flattened. They hissed at the weapons.
"Freeze Cat, after you froze my weapons with ice cones last time, I added low-temperature freeze protection functionality to them. Last time, I let you go just to bait out that one who only knows how to laugh. This time, you won't be so lucky."
Freeze Cat looked serious. He controlled the weapon on his back and fired an ice cone at the drones. However, the drones only paused for a moment, then vibrated and made a buzzing sound, shattering the ice.
Clark sighed, "It seems I'll have to stop you before we can talk."
"That depends on whether you're able to or not."
Bat Cat turned his gaze to Clark. And in that instant, what appeared in his line of sight was a punch as large as a sandbag from Super Cat.
