Chapter 1557: The Person Chasing the Sun (Eighteen)_1

Although they failed to disrupt the Spider-Men's planned event to encourage Peter to propose as planned, they did manage to interrupt the emotional progression between Peter and Gwen. This left them with no time to consider engagement in the short run, thereby barely fixing this bug.

However, Adam didn't understand that there are reasons why the bugs in every piece of old code is not fixed. His meddling, while seemingly resolving the crisis of a rogue world line, in fact, destroyed more underlying programs.

Originally, Peter and Gwen could have had some tender moments together in Los Angeles. Although they could predict that they would definitely be messed up by the group of Spider-Men eventually, at least the two could have a good talk about the future issues which haven't been discussed in a long time. Most emotional problems can be solved through rational communication.

But upon hearing that Nick was assassinated and could be in danger, how could Peter possibly stay in Los Angeles with good conscience? Even if Nick told him that his presence wouldn't make a difference, Peter still hurriedly brought Gwen back to New York.

But upon his return, he had to face a more serious issue, that being George.

His daughter running out of New York in a hurry to go see her boyfriend in Los Angeles was already enough to upset George. After Peter's return, instead of visiting him first, he went to work as an agent at S.H.I.E.L.D., which made George even angrier.

Peter finally managed to free up an afternoon on the second day to visit Gwen's house. However, Peter Parker, when not wearing his Spider-Man mask, tends to have some communication challenges. Combine that with George's great anger, and the pressure from an enraged old cop is not something an ordinary person can handle.

Peter isn't good at lying. Faced with George's intense questioning, he simply explained everything about how the first, second and third generation Spider-Men came about. This ended up adding fuel to the fire.

Although George had seen Roxon Corporation continuously blackening the Spider-Man's name, he had not experienced a large-scale reversal in public opinion and was unclear about many things. Peter isn't the type of person who would embellish his deeds with sweet words, and he explained everything very clearly. However, this matter was indeed unsavory.

How many people shed tears when the first generation Spider-Man died? George and James had expressed their regret about it. But now Peter was telling George that he was actually the first Spider-Man, and that the previous death was a sham. He had fooled the public and played with their emotions, which, of course, infuriated George.

George sent Peter straight out of the house. Gwen wanted to run out to him, but George unusually scolded Gwen, causing her to just stand crying at the door. She wanted to go out to comfort Peter, but she also worried that her father's health might be affected by her anger. She was torn between these two and didn't know what to do.

Peter isn't very good at venting his emotions and often just lets them stew until they reach a crisis point, at which point he can't control his intense emotional outbursts.

He wanted to keep himself busy and distract himself. After a while, when George's anger had subsided, he planned to have a good talk with him. So, he went to the lab to do some experiments.

But at this moment, the three people who created the antimatter universe portal were upstairs researching how to close the portal. They didn't expect Peter to come at this time, so they hadn't cleared away the traces in the particle collider.

Peter was a regular in the lab. Coming to the lab and seeing the files on the table and the traces in the particle collider, how could he not understand that the insect race invasion was the fault of the lab researchers?

Peter looked at the file on the desktop, his anger growing. Just as he was looking for a way to vent his anger, a weary Banner, a grave-looking Reed, and a helpless Otto returned to the lab.

Peter was stunned to see the people appearing before him. He asked incredulously, "You guys didn't cause the laboratory accident that let the insects from the antimatter universe in, did you?!!"

Reed immediately started throwing blame. He pointed at the drunken Banner and said, "Without this guy getting drunk and messing with my experiment halfway through, how would the antimatter particles be hit by the high-speed particle flow?"

"Are you mistaken? Dangerous substances should not be left in the machine. Don't you understand even the most basic laboratory regulations?!" Banner pushed up his glasses, his arm trembling as he retorted.

"You two stop arguing. We should figure out how to close the portal as soon as possible!" Otto, already annoyed, almost lost patience. He had just spent half an hour upstairs where they squabbled for 29 minutes. If this continued, they would never be able to close the portal.

Peter threw the file onto the desk and walked up to them and said, "Do you guys know what you've done?! Those dangerous bugs can kill thousands of lives in the universe, and this is a mistake that could've been avoided!"

"Are you trying to blame me? Peter Parker?!" Reed raised his voice, "Checking for foreign objects in the machine before running an experiment is a basic laboratory safety rule. Besides, he was drunk. He should take responsibility for this!"

It was rare for Reed to have this kind of justified argument. This time it was not solely his fault. Even though it was wrong for him to leave antimatter particles in the particle collider, Banner's failure to check was also his mistake. Furthermore, him and Otto forgot to check the machine too, leaving room for Reed to blame them.

"You are both at fault!" Peter pointed out precisely, "And it's the kind of mistake a three-year-old kid wouldn't make!"

"Okay, Peter, what's done is done. It's useless to blame them now. We need to figure out how to close the portal quickly. Otherwise, more dimensions will be destroyed."

Just then, Otto was somewhat dissatisfied with Peter's attitude of persisting in blaming. He was the most innocent one, he just wanted to finish the job quickly. Just now, Reed and Banner had been arguing for half an hour upstairs and had nothing to say to each other. But Peter's arrival was about to ignite a new war. Where would this end?

Peter pursed his lips, trying hard to suppress his emotions, but still glared defiantly at the two of them. Reed rarely had the chance to have the upper hand in an argument, so he wouldn't let it go. He immediately retorted sarcastically.

"Bruce Banner, you're worried about The Hulk destroying the universe? Look at yourself now, Dr. Banner is about to destroy the universe. In my opinion, The Hulk is even more normal than you. At least he wouldn't get dead drunk for a mentally abnormal woman and let a group of terrifying bugs into our universe!"

Banner's gaze turned cold. He stared fixedly at Reed's face. Reed defiantly raised his chin. Peter's Spider-sense began to buzz wildly.

In the end, like a bolt of lightning, Spider-sense directly controlled Peter's body to make him roll backward, leaping out of the room they were in. The next second, a thunderous roar came from the laboratory.

"The Hulk!!!!!!!!"

Behind the front window of the Sky Carrier hovering over the New York skyline, Nick looked shocked as he watched a large green figure leap up into the sky. He turned to Natasha and asked, "How did the Hulk get out?!!!"

"Hello, Professor Charles? Didn't Dr. Banner recently go to you for emotional counseling? Yes, that's right, letting the Hulk vent his energies in the cosmos-- He did that? So why would he..."

Natasha hung up the phone, walked out the door quickly, and said to Coulson at the door, "Let the Spider-Men out, hold the Hulk first."

"But the safety of the Director..."

"After all, they couldn't stop the assassins anyway." Nick decided on the spot, "With Spider-Man around, chances of stopping them are even smaller. If I die, I die, I can't give those who propagate the threat of superheroes any more opportunities."

Coulson gritted his teeth, stomped his foot on the spot, and still went out to execute the order. Natasha, her eyebrows furrowed, said, "The Hulk's rampage is no coincidence - this is definitely their strategy to draw our attention away. Director, you'd better leave here through the portal first..."

"I can't." Nick shook his head and looked back out the window, "Except for Shiller, both Strange and Loki are missing. When they were here, New York was safe and sound. It's just my luck that things happened when it fell into my hands. How am I supposed to explain this to them?"

"But you can't... Nick! Watch out!!!"

Nick instinctively looked back, Natasha charged forward in a stride, placing the taser directly against the back of his neck, knocking him out instantly.

Natasha took a couple of steps back, waved out the door and said, "Hurry up, Hill, he's been injected with the serum, he won't be knocked out for long, quickly move him to the safe house!"

Then she called out to the other side of the door, "Where is that Skrull? Talos? Talos? Over here! Quickly, change your clothes and get ready for the meeting!"

One Nick Fury was carried out, and another Nick Fury, obviously in a hurry, ran in. It was Talos, the Skrull who had previously collaborated with Nick. He took on the appearance of Nick Fury, donned Nick's jacket, and put on his eye-patch.

After changing his clothes, he walked out with large strides, Natasha followed him as usual and in no time, they were in the meeting room of the S.H.I.E.L.D.

There was no one else in the meeting room. Only the communication device, located in the center of the room, flashed twice. When the projection brightened, the queen of the Shi'ar Empire, Lilandra, appeared on the screen.

"Time is of the essence, I'll be brief." The queen in the projection didn't beat around the bush; she said sternly, "Two of the Kree Empire's three main star ports have been conquered. The disaster they're facing is the most severe. Now, we must make a decision!"

"The New Skrull Empire is the furthest from the source of the disaster, they have already planned to rob the Kree Empire while it is weak. Two fleets at full strength are heading towards the military port of the Kree Empire. They want to put a final end to the millennium war."

"Fools!" Talos, now disguised as Nick, cursed, "The current emperor of the empire is a fool. They have no idea how powerful the Destroying Worms are, they are still thinking about infighting?!"

"We must reverse all of this." The Queen gently withdrew her chin, and then the feathers on her head gradually disappeared, her skin color changed and she revealed her true form - Mystique.

Obviously, under the joint efforts of Magneto and Professor X, the mutants had hijacked the reins of the Shi'ar Empire.

"I will let Magneto destroy the two Skrull fleets directly, then pose as the worm race. We must incite a war between them."

"The Destroying Worms are very powerful, not an enemy that one empire can handle. The three great empires must be at the forefront, lead by example, without retreating. Only in this way can we gather the force of the entire universe, to fight such powerful enemies!"

Mystique's voice carried resolve, and she had to admit it, she was more suited than Lilandra to be the queen of a super empire.

The situation on Earth was not looking good. Natasha sighed lightly, "We suspect that the worm invasion, the assassination attempt on Nick, and the Hulk's rage - these incidents have the same mastermind."

Mystique squinted her eyes and said with a sharp, razor-like voice.

"A behind-the-scenes puppet master? Find him..."

Natasha replied with a cold expression.

"And kill him."
