Chapter 30
Brad looked at David. He didn’t know what to say. David smiled and said, “You go on, Bertha’s waiting for you.”
Getting directions to his gran’s room, Brad hovered in the doorway and watched as a nurse in hospital scrubs stood next to the bed seemingly checking the readings on the myriad of machines and devices that beeped and clicked. There on the bed, looking pale and small, was his grandmother. Her eyes were closed and she had tubes in her nose. Brad felt tears well up. He’d been here before. Not in this actual room but ones like it. He recalled when Andy had been in his accident and was in a coma, when David had been thrown from his horse and was paralyzed with a neck injury, and when he’d been with his father in those brief moments just before he’d died of injuries sustained in a car crash.
