Kang Minghao's face reddened under the scrutiny. "I was trying to help," he said, his voice defensive. "Your parents were pressuring you, and I thought... I thought I could save you from that."
"You didn't save me, Minghao," Wang Nuozhi shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "You just replaced one problem with another."
"Brother Kang, what exactly were you thinking? This doesn't sound like you," Ling Feiyi said.
"Exactly!" Liang Sichen piped up.
Kang Minghao rubbed the back of his neck, struggling to find the right words. "I thought it would be better for Zizi," he said quietly. "I didn't want her to be forced into a marriage she didn't want."
"And did you ever ask her what she wanted?" Xia Lihua pressed.
