ENTRY #4 OCTOBER 15TH 1791

It's the 17th hour and I fear that my friends will come to visit me again soon. Claudia and Adrian both left at first light, though they seemed to come back at midnight. I made myself some tea, it soothes me and helps me write. You know, people actually do read my stories, just earlier today when I went down near the tavern, one of the drunkards yelled at me saying he had seen Magnolia

Magnolia is a sorceress- well, a witch (I suppose) who lives in a small hut in the middle of the forest west of my home. She is disturbingly tall, about 7'2. She wears a long dark cloak, has unnaturally thin and bony hands and even has horns. But her face is more disturbing than all of that, it's not even that grotesque…but she's still so creepy. She has a sharp chin with skin as white as paper, her lips permanently curved into a smile and empty eye sockets with dark circles surrounding them, sharply curved around the edges. The most off-putting part about her was her laugh…her laugh sounds like a lullaby, but you can still hear that she is laughing and not singing. Each laugh is a "ha" lasting 1.5 seconds in a rhythm of a rising pitch. The 3rd "ha" will last 2 seconds and go even higher in pitch, then the 5th and final "ha" will halt at a lower pitch than the rest. She laughs when she knows someone is near her, she laughs when she is chasing someone, she laughs when she catches you, she laughs as she eats your flesh and organs, but when you make eye contact..she will start laughing psychotically. Some hunters were hunting near her hut, and as Magnolia detected their presence, she started laughing. Creeped out, the hunters slowly approached the hut as the laughter got progressively louder. Magnolia stepped outside her hut and her appearance immediately scared the 2 hunters away. The next night, one of the hunters heard his baby crying, and as he was about to go check on him, he heard the laughter…then it turned into a freak's laughter. He slammed the door open to find Magnolia staring the baby in his eyes, and then her gaze shifted to the hunter. She tackled the hunter to the floor and started disembowelling him right in front of the baby, staring him in the eyes, laughing psychotically.

Magnolia truly is the most frightening character I've ever written. I don't even know why I wrote her, there's no exploration of any ideal or philosophy…I don't even know why I wrote her. I didn't know what story to even write after creating her, I didn't even know how the laugh should go…Regardless, I finished it. However, after I had it put on the paper, the company who made the magazine said that my story's place in the paper was going to be shared with another promising young writer. They told me unless I were willing to give them 100% of the earnings of my writings I had earned in the past 6 months, my place in the magazine would be reduced to 20% of what it once was. I refused and my stories no longer appeared in the paper. I just didn't know how to move forward with anything, and when I did, it was actually my lowest-performing story. People hated it and I barely made any money off of it. It was also my most recent story, I wrote it 6 months ago. I haven't written anything since. I just don't know what to do, I don't know how to move forward. I'm just so lost not knowing how to possibly continue after an unexpected failure. I will try to sleep to avoid an unwanted visit from my friends.
