The Kawatche Tribe were very sensitive about the caves. Which was fine since they were partial Kryptonian. One of them bred with a visitor from the stars as they put it, a few centuries ago. Not all of them though.
Which was fine by Max. The tribe posed no threat to him really. A few were disgruntled about him moving around in the area. He ignored them and asked them for nothing. Legally, they couldn't do anything.
The spiritual energy from the 7 demons was abundant. Another two days to deal with them at the least. Three days at the most.
But a few kept an eye on him. Following him. Some secretly, others not so much. The old man Jeremiah Willowbrook followed him openly. Asking him questions on why he is here. Which were answered simply every time.
"Why are you here? Tell an old man that at least. I will stop bothering you if you do."
"You are no bother Skinwalker." Max said unbothered. "Do as you must to appease your mind as well as your tribe. Makes no difference to me."
*Shine!* A golden ankh door appeared. Out stepped Inza. A powerful sorceress in her own right, and wife of Kent, Doctor Fate. As well as a relative of Max in this World. It had been a while since anything went on with them.
"Hello." Max gave a wave and kept observing the caves. Clicking away on his camera. "Such a flashy entrance Inza. Why such a thing?"
"To come and help. A small blood tie to the tribe is all." Inza said cooly. She moved over to the old man Joseph. Grasping his hands muttering a small spell. "So, a relative of yours. Your seed goes far."
"My what now?" Max stopped working and turned to her. Looking around, he saw a few more of Willowbrook's family. "No.. no.. no.. No way are they related to me. They are to.."
"They are blood." Inza said sternly. "You wouldn't hurt them for no reason, will you." She watched as Max moved over and grabbed the man's hands then another member's hands. One by one, he checked them all with a blood spell. "Well?"
"I will not hurt any of the Willowbrook unless something happens." Max threw his hands in the air slightly frustrated. He never checked for blood relations when arriving really. No point. 'People have their own lives to live. No reason to mess with it unless I have to.' Unless they were someone in his direct path. Like with Inza. "Long as they do not get in my way of course."
"They are good people." Inza said. "Our people."
"Yeah yeah. Our people and all that." Max shrugged and went back to work. "I have all kinds of people scattered all over the place. And all kinds of animal descendants." He gave a slight mutter. 'How many more are here?'
Atlas was quiet for a moment. Running checks and scans through several spells.
'A total of 24 on Earth.' Atlas responded after a final check. 'Very thin. Inza is the closes to you. Besides the inseminated produce children of course.'
'Hmm, not an issue. They would not make it to Champion status through me. So, best of luck to what they do.' Max finished taking pictures and went inside the actual caves. Inza and Joseph following behind him. The others having recived a few words from Inza went to check on their families' records. "What is it?"
"Nothing. Just wish to spend a little time with you cousin." Inza said with a little cheek. "Or better to call you ancestor maybe?"
"Haaa, Gaia paid you a visit didn't she?" Max looked over his shoulder. She smiled at him and nodded. "Figured as much. Is she causing trouble for you in any way? She tends to get that way when she becomes really happy about something."
"Like all the kids."
"Yeah. They do give her a little strength. As well as strengthen the mothers. Which strengths her even more." Max stopped moving and started to decipher a few of the cave markings. "More to do with the work of the Pantheons. Maybe, anyway. She is just giddy with kids for all sorts of reasons."
A look of frustration when feeling them all be born. Small pure Virtues were sent to him the moment they took their first breath. Just more to feel when they all die later as well. Which would send him little traces of Sin.
"You do not look happy." Joseph said. The old man maneuvered not to far from Max. Watching him write down a few notes. Unable to read the shorthand himself. "Is a father not a joyous thing?"
"I guess. But I am just the sperm donor to them. That does not make me their father. Just provides a means to an end." Max said calmly. "I have a duty to perform certain things. About the time I see those kids specifically, they will be adults. Now, if they want to meet with me, I will of course."
"What if you wish to meet them?" Joseph asked what Inza wanted to ask.
"I meet them in their dreams." Max looked up at them. "The Waking Dream is always something I practice. When they sleep, if they have a nightmare, I appear to them in a way. Small acts to help guide them from their troubles. Never appear to them as a man. It would be.. wrong to do so. wrong to influence them that way. Mothers have the full authority on how they are raised."
"Hmm, you are a weird one ancestor." Joseph said. He rubbed his chin not knowing what else to say. "Is it a black wolf by chance?"
"Yes. Or a squirrel. Mostly a snake. It all depends on the child. Each represents something of me to them. It is.. weird. But it is how I developed it. I will never change it." Max went back to going over the cave stuff. "Anyway, Naman is actually here on Earth. I will not tell you of the "other" from the Legend. No point in that."
"Where is he?" Joseph was startled. But the Naman was still something that was very important to the tribe. "Can we meet him?"
"Your daughter, tell her to go to the Talon. Take a small job there or just go for a run here." Max showed him a small map on his phone. The Kent farm, the only thing on it. "I am sure things will become clear there. But be careful, the boy is skittish."
"Thank you." Joseph left the cave. Leaving Max and Inza.
"Well, why do that?"
"To make those two meet sooner than normal. Hopefully, she can make him more of a man." Max grinned. "As well as get him more into his role. Clark doing some heavy lifting will help. Especially with all the crap that goes on here. Less work for my people hereas well."
"I see." Inza nodded thoughtfully. "Kent and Teth-Adam are getting on well enough. And Nabu is not that bad. When he is not controlling my husband that is. A great conversationalist."
"Well, he is old as dirt. So yeah." Max stopped at an indention in the wal. Sending his senses through the cave, he checked to make sure no one was around. It was clear so he used his spell he had ready. "Seal and Protect!"
*Woom!* Max hands moved in a mystical pattern. He weaved the strongest of spells possible to take control of the area. The Kryptonian tech did not react. One due to the magic used and another due to the invasive way it was cast.
Inza watched in awe. The magic energy released was so bright and pure. More so than the golden light of Nabu. Which was saying something. Max was just using Virtue to power his spell.
As time passed, Inza felt something stir. A black light wrapped around to shield her from what was next. Then a golden light as bright as the sun shined. Something shot towards Max. He grabbed it with his hand before tucking it away in his inventory.
*Shing!* A ghastly glow also entered Max. Not caught by the two or Atlas. The energy from the dagger blocked the senses.
The very moment he did so, he could feel Gaia's joy.
'The dagger Palak. It will make a great resource for you. As well as something for the future.' Gaia's voice was as sweet as honey. Every version of Earth had a sun near it. Which she refused to go into detail why it was so important to her champions. 'Do not cultivate it here. Wait till you return to do so.'
Inza moved over grabbing Max from his spot. She was worried when he didn't respond to her calls.
"Maxmillion!" Inza called again. She watched his eyes that looked burnt out. In a few blinks, his eyes were fine once more. "Haaa, that was not pleasant to look at."
"Hmm, oh yes. My fault. Should have said something." Max checked the spells once more. Nothing was damaged. "Good for future threats that come. Time to go." With a flick of his wrist, a few birds were conjured. 'Secure the other cave areas. Let me know when some one.. of ill means arrive.'
*Flap!* The birds took off.
"So, take me out to a meal cousin. I still have the day free." Inza grabbed his arm as they moved. Max didn't mind. "When do I get to meet that woman of yours by the way?"
"Hehe, umm never maybe. I have know idea." Max chuckled nervously. He rather not explain the craziness to Morgan Le Fey really. The two strolled out of the cave not knowing the trouble they were going into.
.
Confrontation-
.
Outside the cave were members of the different Kawatche tribe. Seperated into groups and waiting till Max and Inza came out.
"What did you find in the cave?" A young member of the tribe asked. It was Jeremiah Holdsclaw. A very sneaky young man that thought he knew better. In the tv show Smallville, he took over the Starblade or Palak as it is known as. To kill Lionel and eventually battling Clark to become Naman. Well, he called himself Naman anyway. "The light shined out so far, it was hard to miss."
"Nothing for you. I assure you." Max said as he kept moving. Inza moved to talk with Joseph. Trying to find out what all transpired. Which was not going well from her expression. "Man, I was in their a while. Missed a lot of phone calls. That is weird."
Max was not taking any of them seriously. It was night time when he left. He lost almost the whole day in there. It was about 7 or so. Responding to messages and voicemails just caused the young Jeremiah to become even further infuriated.
"Not for an outsider to determine." Jeremiah said angrily. A few of the others nodding agreeing. Max continues to ignore him. "Empty your bag if you want to leave. Can not have you stealing from the tribe."
"Huh, eat a dick boy." Max flipped him off. "I didn't steal shit." Can't steal something if it does not have an owner. And considering it was supposed to be destroyed, he was doing the blade a favor. As well as the tribe by taking it. "Stop talking nonsense dumbass."
"Max, it would be better if we go." Inza said coming up to him. "The Hodsclaw have had trouble lately. And that one is the worse among them. A bit of a hothead. I rather you do not kill him."
"What, me?" Max questioned mockingly. "I would not do anything so.. boring." Inza just folded her arms at him. "Oh fine. Let's go then." The two started walking off. A few of the tribe's men turned into wolves. "Stupid."
*Whistle!* Max blew on his fingers amplified by his magic. The frequency hit them all causing them to faint with blood coming from their ears. The did not revert back to human form.
"Father!" A member called out. A few of the others rushing towards those who collapsed. Willowbrook's family did not change or do anything. Which Inza told them to do. "What did you do to them!?"
"I just blew a little tune is all." Max grinned. He kept walking as traces of Wrath entered him. "One should no when not to step up to the wrong person. I mean, someone could have died very easily."
"You thieving bastard." Jeremiah said viciously. He pulled out a gun and fired at Max. "You will pay for this!" Inza was completely protected but Max cast a spell to make himself like a regular human.
*Pow!* The pistol cut through the air. Hitting Max in the left shoulder. Seeing the blood spill, another tribesman tackled Jeremiah. Not wanting him to become a murder.
"Stop struggling boy!" His uncle yelled. A few of the others grabbed ahold to secure him. "You were wrong! He is not Sageeth!" Max heard everything but kept going. Inza had a slightly worried look on her face.
The tribe looked at the blood that touched the ground. No differences than any other blood. A few held it to their nose not smelling anything different as well. One made sure to tuck it away to get it testes later.
They would find nothing in the blood. Besides a few genetic markers that tied them to Max. As well as a few traces of the spores. But that was only because he went running today.
.
In a room-
.
Inza watched as the wound on Max's shoulder did not close up. Looking at the spell that made it stay like an actual injury. She could tell it prevented him from healing it fully. Which was weird to her.
"I will heal it fully when I go home." Max answered. He weaved a little spell, covering it up with gauze and bandages. "Must be able to keep things hidden. Rumors find away to places."
"I understand. Thank you for not killing anyone." Inza sat in a chair conjuring some tea for them. "So, what are your plans for the future?"
"Same as I have been doing. Why, are you looking for work?" Inza suprised him by nodding. "Well, ok. Hmm, is this for personal work or forces of "Order" work?"
"Order work."
"That limits it." Max shook his head in disappointment. But he understood why. She spent to much time with Fate. Rubbed off on her to much. "Then a metahuman that manipulates, kills, and tortures people is right up your alley. Especially since he is learning all sorts of things when raiding their minds."
Max handed her the file and a contract of a person. The person was Maxwell Lord. A member of Checkmate and known as the Black King. He was ruthless in what he did. But currently, his whereabouts were unknown.
"I am no hitwoman." Inza said. She read the contract over then frown. She had jumped the gun. No mention of killing. Mostly find and apprehend if she had to. "Why the interest?"
"He is obscured from my sight. I do not like it." Max said simply. "A few locator spells turned up nothing."
As the two conversed over details, Max received a phone call from Lena Luthor. Answering it proved to be quite a surprise.
"Why did get shot!?" It was so loud, Max moved his ear from the phone. Inza couldn't help but smile.
"Settle down. Not something to talk about over the phone." Max did not know who she had near here. So he contacted her mentally to calm her down. The conversation on the phone was just for show. Inza just enjoyed the company.
