Life can be so corny. Most times the people you look at like giants you forget were once small . The one you run to for refuge might also need shelter.
Connie wouldn't stop looking at Ali at every free chances she had in the restaurant. After seeing him in the fragile state for the first time she some how see things differently. She also felt stronger .
Although everyone seems happy about her been present at work, she felt her manager wasn't. " Do you think you can still be of any use here in my restaurant?" Miss Lisa asked her . It was a frightening question to her . The last question she 'd ever expect. Ali kept telling her to forget it but she can't. She only hopes it doesn't affect her. Since Ali told them she was sick , she decided to make them know she was fine already by looking and acting smartly. Two couples walked and Koel who quickly recognise them hurried to them. They said something that made Koel frown. He took them to the manager's office.
"That's the police." Manuel said looking scared. "I hate police." They started calling them one after the other for brief conversations . When it got to Connie's turn, Ali and Koel said she wasn't present at the so called day and they thanked them before leaving.
It was a relief for Connie but the others had been strangely quiet since then.
Two customers walked in and no one seems to noticed . She walked to them to ask for their orders. While one won't stop looking at her strangely the other was too busy with his phone. She didn't know what to do so she excused herself. "Why is he looking at you that way ? " Zoe asked as she straighten her short black skirt.
"He ain't bad any way." Manuel suggested. Connie turned to Ali and Koel who were deep in a conversation and turned back to her customers. The guy was still staring and the other turned too to look at her before saying something to his brother that made him looked away. She rushed to the staff toilet to wash her face. She saw her reflection , she still look sick. Her baggy eyes wasn't that obvious but she looked pale.
She sat on the toilet. The other guy doesn't like her . She knew but something about his eyes stirred her stomach and made her heart race at the same time. She shook the feelings off and stood up. He was just a mare guy who came to eat and will walk away and never come back. She tried to convince herself plus she wasn't ready to start lusting over any guy after the never-healing breakup she had with Hassan.
She walked out of the restroom to see Zoe done with serving the customers. The one who had been staring at her for quite a long time before was talking to the other too fast. It was obvious he was angry. The one that had stirred her up seems well organised. He lean forward and spoke calmly. Whatever he said had a bad effect on the other as it made him so stiff on the chair. Connie took her eyes way as Manuel whispered something to her in the ear . " I am not staring Manuel." She said and followed him to the bar .
" If you are not staring then you are looking." " Zoe said in Manuel's defence. She dropped her tray on the bar . " Help me with the other table please." She begged Connie.
Every step she took she felt the burning eyes of him on her. She didn't know what to think but at least she appreciates that he paid attention to her only that it makes her shy . She spoke calmly to the new customers at the corner and got them their orders. When she finally sit her admirer and his hot brother were leaving. She finally got the chance to see their body properly. Although their facial features were alike their body was different. Her admirer was slim while his brother was broader . He looked hot and sexy than Hassan . She found herself comparing him with her ex.
" Wake up dream girl and let's pack up ." Manuel whispered to her . She gave him a naughty face before joining Zoe .
" They were here on the night Joel disappeared. I think they were the last customers around that night." Zoe said as they cleaned up the ditches. She passed the plates she had cleaned to Connie who was listening attentively. " And the guy that was lust after you brought a lady that night and they seemed like a real couple . "
" He wasn't lusting after me ." Connie spoke quickly but Zoe didn't want to hear that as she walked away. Connie hissed at her . Zoe would never listen to her any way. They were just two girls that doesn't seems to really get along. She quickly dried the plates before returning it to where it belongs.
Although she she knew the guy was really lust after her she just wasn't going to blunt it out to anyone especially her colleagues. She wished it was the other guy . The one who took her heart racing. His eyes were like the ocean , deep and attractive . He had the body that any woman would happily kill for. And she was attracted to him just that he wasn't feeling the same way. She walked out of the kitchen. It was her first night at work since the incident that brought a blow to her life and instead of been lucky she was recovering she was busy wanting some one way out of her league at least she wasn't wallowing in her own tears . If wishes would come through , she'd be sitting down daydreaming about that Mr Hottie with the Class. But it might never come through. She can't go through the same thing again as she had with Hassan.
Madam Lisa was down stairs sitting with legs crossed and the rest of the staffs were around her expect for Connie and Manuel. Manuel hurriedly walked to them and whispered something to Zoe quietly. Connie noticed the strong bonding. Looking like a lot had happened while she was away.
