The world in the book is set to be an alternate version of earth where the residents can tap into a power known as soul power and use this power to fuel their individual essences.

Power scaling in the novel is very straightforward with the only diversity being in the point that every individual has different essences. But every essence belongs to an essence group and the three groups are physical, psychological and mystical.

An example would be Fire essence, different individuals can use fire but they'll have changes in the effects of their flames. Some flames can be regular fire while some might burn up to the temperature on the sun's surface.

Some fire might not even burn the physical but spirit and soul, some might be explosive while some might be penetrative.

Point is no two people have the same essence but soul power is the generally accepted fuel to use essence.

Just like Mana to a magic novel or Qi to a cultivation novel.

There are five levels to soul power scaling, and scholars have studied that once a person can experience their peak during awakening.

Ember ( Gatherer) - To use soul power you typically have to light up your soul, a painful process and one of that can't be maintained for long so to be an Ember level user the one undertaking awakening must salvage what little embers remain after the flames. The amount of embers gathered determines the amount of soul power that can be used.

Match (Seeker) - At this level soul power users have secured their embers and now they have to secure a match that can be used in conjunction with their embers to start a blaze.

Blaze (Forges) - This level allows soul power users to be more intimate with their essence as there is now a blaze to support it's usage

Inferno/Warlock/ Demigods - At this level soul power users are called Demigods to properly award the respect the Inferno their soul now houses and to serve a reminder of the terrible power they posses only exceeded by the Gods.

God - This level is true to it's name a god of whatever essence group the god is. Gods are high immortals and can destroy planets with merely their presences. But it was said that the Gods had a great battle that left them all in limbo and in the process released the locks on every mortals souls, allowing them the privilege to walk the paths of ascension.
