Rift Weirdos

In a wartorn wasteland, a fierce siege echoed with thunders of war.

Pertan, a city fortress on the outskirts of the fringes lay under siege by the Eclipse Clan. A strong clan from the void isles, their boldness had been growing since the Yeiveir Republics fall.

Their actions coming to a climax when their signature twilight rifts opened up across the shattered plains. Soon after powerful cybernetic warriors poured out, above a large gun riddled carrier pierced the sky.

Pertan met the initial invasion with a wall of plasma, felling warriors until the Eclipse soldiers found themselves diving for the deep fissions running along the hard packed dirt.

The siege of the city has lasted three days. An array of beams, shells and flak greeting their force fields and outpost from the formidable carrier who stood opposing above the city. Serving as the ever present medium for their twilight rifts.

Even with pertan's rail batteries the carrier proved difficult to fell. The metal when warp and broken, mended back to shape within hours.

At last, they had no choice but to send out their Cyber magus unit. The few they had would have to put a stop to this.

Or risk the cities barrier falling and the Eclipse clan breaching and eventually taking over the city.

Marcus was one of these Cyber Magus, one of three in the city.

In this world, technology had advanced quite a bit. To the point of cybernetics, kinetics, the likes. There were some who gained the ability to control essence, which was like elements.

There was also aegis, a magic incompatible with humanity. It could not be directly harnessed as its volatile nature would deconstruct the human body rapidly. Leaving to deterioration, outburst, essence overload and eventually death. Aegis had a one hundred percent kill rate if gathered with one's body.

The only exception was Cyber magus. A rarity of its own, they weren't considered human due to their nature.

A Cyber magus is a person born with the ability to abnormally produce and collect Aegis. They are born with three essences and are deemed supernatural in nature.

There are very few in the world. Pertan was one of the provinces that had managed to gather three. A lucky feat thought to not be produced easily.

Because Cyber magus were rare and their abilities stemmed from others. They were equipped with an ai that treats them to a system.

Using numbers to quantify their strength and help them develop themselves without risking harm to others.

Cyber magus only have three classes.

Battlemage

Nanomancer

Cybertech

The magus could class Into all three if they develop themselves like that, but

most specialized into specific ones.

Battlemages were Cyber magus who used aegis and martial prowess combined.

Nanomancer is the use of nanite swarms, they have many qualifications.

Cybertech are magus who want to enhance their prowess, or others prowess against whatever they deem necessary.

Taeir was a Cybertech, she watched over the cities barrier, metal constructs and most repairs. She only partially classed into nanomancer to gain abilities to further those task.

In her own right she could kill with those nano Swarms.

Michael was a straight nanomancer with partial clashing into battlemage to level out his defense.

Marcus was a battlemage, he had yet to class into the two others. Sticking to his guns which made him a formidable force to be reckoned with.

When they got the call to go out and deal with the carrier. He was the first to enthusiastically respond, after all due to his method of fighting, the city didn't want him to go out unless the enemy got in.

Three days of sitting on the sidelines, the boredom Was a driving factor in pushing for deployment.

The mission was simple, they intended to launch a missile with three smaller missile pods attached, with The cities defenses they intended to overwhelm the carriers total output and allow for the cyber magus to get on board. Simple stuff right?

"Ready?"

"No, this is dangerous. I prefer my peace and quiet not.. not this."

"Oh come on Taeir, you have my enhancements, I doubt they'll leave a permanent mark on us."

"oh joy, sounds soo nice. Do you hear yourself Michael? We are being launched at a carrier strapped with guns in a one way ticket rocket."

"look, on the bright side those engine rooms and labs will be mighty packed with technologies yet to be discovered!"

"Exactly, that's the only reason I agreed to this."

"Ah ha, see? How about you Marcus, you ready?"

"you know it, you know how boring it is just to sit back and watch the action? I wanna be in it, not an observer."

"Can't you play games or something, do what normal boys do and shoot shoot online?"

"haa, it's not enough to satisfy that junky in me Taeir, I need stimulation, and sitting and playing a game just doesn't bring me that joy."

"Who said you had to sit? Isn't there VR games that stimulate battle?"

"it's just not the real stuff, I mean it's cool I guess. But I want to be in it you know. I wanna feel the pain and the terror of dying. It's just different."

"Marcus, has anyone told you your a lost cause?"

"I knew you wouldn't understand"

"don't worry buddy, I understand you. Taeir just doesn't get that high from battle."

"i.. I do! Just don't wanna get domed and enjoy it, you two are just freaks."

Both Michael and Marcus click their tongue just as the intercoms clicked on.

"Alright chill down children. It's time to go party upstairs. We are commencing launch in three. Make sure your ready"

The intercom clicked off, the rocket beginning to rumble.

"Everyone got their enhancment?"

"ehh.."

Marcus swiped his hand across empty air. A visor of information registering in front of him.
