Chapter 17: Late Night Phone Call

Abigail’s POV

"Hi, Elle," I spoke to my phone.

I flopped on my back on the bed. I squeezed my phone to my right ear and dangled my right leg over the side of my bed.

"Hey," was all she could say.

I looked to my ceiling on where to start this conversation as if a manuscript would appear from thin air that I could read from. A ladybug crawled across my ceiling, but no answers could be found up there.

"I'm sorry," I began.

"You didn't have to go with her." She repeated the same last words from our failed park date.

"I had to," I mumbled.

"Why?" She asked, very bluntly.

"I don't know," I sighed.

"See?" She got louder in my ear. "You're not a teenager anymore. Don't let her push you around!"

"Hey," I sat up in bed, "I've had enough of someone talking over me or for me for one day. So can you knock that off?"

"Fine," She said.

"My Momma can be –" I started.

Elle remained quiet. She kept her promise.

"She can be overbearing; I understand that."
