Chapter 10

Inside a beautiful all-purple-themed bedroom, Rebecca, a woman in her early sixties sat down gloriously on the bed, a beautiful smile plastered on her lips as she sipped her coffee. She was clad in a baby pink night robe, highlighting her youthful glam more.

Her face was covered in glamorous makeup, and her lips were in a beautiful red color. She looked so much younger than her age.

Her whole countenance looked well relaxed, without a stress on her face. Her expression looked a bit too happy for a woman who just lost her grandchild and had no knowledge about the whereabouts of her daughter.

Yes, she was Amelia's mother. Rebecca Hudgens, that was her name. She was the First Lady of the Hudgens Company Ltd. The Hudgen company ranked the 20th most sorted company in the world after her husband's death and she loved the sight of that position on the newspaper, billboard, and everywhere.

Her phone beeps continuously, due to business and she loves the sound of it. It brought a beautiful morning smile to her face.

However, a knock on her door disturbed her peaceful self-admiration. She raised a brow at the maid standing by the door.

Seeing the maid still standing after the brow raised, she took the coffee mug off her lips and decided to ask. "Are you going to just stare at me that way? Are your filthy hands finally dead and you don't know how to open the door?" her voice was all prideful as usual.

The black-haired maid standing before the door bowed in apology and opened the door in her next breath.

"What a pleasant surprise," Rebecca scoffed when she saw who stood before her now-opened door, "To what do I owe this visit?"

Daniel's jaw clenched hard. He scanned the room before walking inside.

"You_"

"I'm searching for my wife. Did she come here?" Daniel cut her off with her intended pleasant words. All he wanted right now was to find Amelia and nothing more. His fists ached to hit someone, and that someone had to be her, Amelia.

Rebecca gave him a surprised look, "Here? Why would she come here? Am I her husband?" she shot back, her voice filled with irritation.

She hated the thought of being around that woman she had to call her daughter.

Daniel swallowed, "I see. If so, I have to get going. I still have a whole city to search," he said.

Rebecca rolled her eyes and rested her back on her headboard. "Why do you have to go and search for her? Why not let her crawl back to you? She needs money and power to survive in this city and luckily, she has none. So what makes you think she would run away for so long?"

Daniel frowned. He no longer likes the sound of people speaking ill about his wife. She was his wife, he owned her, and no one else. He alone has the right to speak to her in whatever manner he likes. He alone should devalue her.

Not in the mood to say anything else, he turned to leave.

"You seem bothered," Rebecca continued, "Why?" she asked after taking notice of the eye bags under Daniel's eyes. His black hair looked so ruffled and unlike his usual always composed prideful self, he presented himself as a commoner.

Urgh! She hates the sight of commoners. They irk her eyes so bad.

Rather than his signature black suit, he was in a simple plain jean and a t-shirt. What kind of a CEO in the world's third-ranking company dresses that way?

Daniel's feet halted. He met Rebecca's eyes with a soft sigh escaping his lips. "It's nothing. I only want to find my wife. We just lost our first child and she needs my comfort more than ever,"

"Oh!" Rebecca made a smug expression, "If so, why did she kill the baby without your consent? If she needed your comfort more than ever as you had just said, why did she hide the baby from you and run away the moment she lost the baby? Are you even sure the baby was yours?"

Rebecca's words shot directly at Daniel's heart. These questions she just asked were the same questions that pushed sleep away from him last night. He also wondered why she hid the baby from him.

However, his reply came out differently.

"She must have her reasons," his voice came out firmly, "Also, she said she would do nothing to harm the child and I think it's high time we take that as the truth. You should know Amelia better, she would never sin like this,"

Rebecca's eyes squinted. She authoritatively stood up from the bed and scanned Daniel from his head to his toenail.

"If you think this way, why did you hit her back there in the hospital ward? I believe she mentioned not doing anything to the child. Why did you still hit her?"

Daniel's jaw flexed and he harshly looked away from Rebecca. His eyes held guilt in them and his fist folded in rage.

Rebecca turned to the maid standing at the door. "Leave us," she commanded her.

The maid bowed lightly and left in obedience.

When the maid left, Rebecca sat back on the bed and crossed her right leg over the other. "Are you not going to say something? I could clearly remember her mentioning the name of that wretched daughter of my housemaid you picked up to be your mistress to be the cause of her miscarriage," she hinted, "What happens next? Did you hit your mistress for killing your child?"

"That was a lie_"

"Oh so now, Amelia lies?" Rebecca interrupted him with a remarkable mocking sound at the edge of her voice, "So when it comes to your mistress, your precious wife lies? On a scale of 1-10, how confused are you? Tell me,"

Daniel's jaw flexed at her bold remarks. He pinched the skin between his brows in confusion and managed to reply.

"I'm not confused. Diana was with me all through. Even when Amelia was rushed to the hospital, Diana was around me," he gave her a small nod, "Now if you would excuse me, I have a city to search,"

With that, Daniel walked out of the door and gave it a loud bang after him. Rebecca's lips curled up into a charming fox-like smile.

She gave her head a small shake and resumed drinking her coffee. Whoever gets hurt, she doesn't care - as long as her company continues to grow.

Warning, this is gonna be a slow-burn romance!
