Emily's phone rang, breaking the quiet evening silence. She looked up at Robert, still fast asleep, and smiled. She carefully got out of his arms, trying not to wake him up. As she left the room, she answered the call.
"Where are you?" Her mom asked, sounding worried.
"We're inside, Mom. Why?" Emily replied, glancing at the phone's screen.
"We've been waiting outside for ages! We rang the doorbell, but no one answered," her mom said, sounding frustrated.
Emily felt sorry. "I'm so sorry, Mom. I'll come right away," she said, already heading to the door.
The call ended, and Emily hurried to meet her mom. Emily flung open the front door, a bright smile illuminating her face.
"Mum, Dad!" She exclaimed, wrapping her arms around them in a warm embrace. They looked surprised, as they returned her hug. As she stepped back, her gaze fell on the Rawlings, standing like sentinels behind her parents.
