What?
The fact that Ken is attempting to put me with the perfect scheme to approach the kid, is quite bizarre. How come he supports me already when I have yet to persuade him? "Thank you" My hand raises, only to pat the shoulder of the man in front of me. He at least helps me.
All of the sudden, Ken quiets down. His eyes peer down at me in dead silence. Huh? What did I do to earn such a stare? Did I say something to disturb him? But all I said was thank you and just lightly patting his... Oh lord. I certainly did something to obtain this reaction from him.
I can't help with the habit of patting his shoulder whenever I feel gratified. Now, he is going to doubt me and finds out the hints eventually. I should be careful. I should drop my past habits. My soul may be Violet Ravena. But my identity is Verena Laurel. I have to act like one.
"Are you planning to observe me like this or move out of the way?" To erase the suspicion, I pretend I did nothing out of the character. And it is the moment Ken steps away with his head lowered. "My apologies" He murmurs. At the same time as he guessed, the maid arrives.
The lunch for the kid is here.
"Pass it towards me. I will feed him" I don't have much time to request. As result, my tone sounds harsh like a threat. Making the girl furrows brows in puzzlement. "I fear Ma'am Nesta does not approve such an idea" The maid protests. Holding the serving platter firmly.
"Didn't you hear what Ma'am Verena said?" Before I can speak a word, Ken sides with me. It is when the maid gulps in fright, only to pass the platter into my hands. "Please pardon me" She then dashes off, as if some sort of tigers were chasing after her. "I will be waiting outside"
Ken knocks on the door.
Why would he still wait for me here? Is he frightened I might do something to the kid? Did Damian order him to keep a close eye upon me? "It is going to take more than a few minutes. You should go do your works instead of wasting time here" I instruct while holding platter.
"But-" Ken tries to complain, yet I slam the door with my foot as soon as I step inside. The conversation won't cease until I cut it off. A slight frown displays across my face once I enter into the room. A kid's room should not be this cold and dark in my opinion. But this one does.
There is a boy sitting on the couch with a book in his hands. He faces towards the balcony. The aura this room embraces reminds me of the basement I used to have in this mansion. The color of the room is covered in blue, and yet it feels dark inside still. The silence is loud as well.
"You must be Leo"
I break down the silence. There is no time to admire the room that feels bizarre. My goal is to approach the kid. No responses come up although I head towards him. He remains serene as his eyes focus on the book. This kid is not behaving in the way he should. A four years old kid?
You must be joking. This kid appears as if he is the thirty years old professor, reading through the lectures he needs to teach next day. That's the vibe. Right, that's how I feel at the moment. "Would you like to have lunch now? It is tuna with noodle" I attempt to hold a chat.
But this damn kid won't voice a sound even! At last, I settle down on the couch across him. Covering the sunlight. "You should have the meal" I suggest. Pushing the platter in front of him. However, my efforts come to fall into mud. He does not give out reactions even. He is quiet.
Extremely tranquil to the point where he ignores my whole existence. What the fuck is wrong with this kid?! He is getting on my nerves for real. The way I wish he was someone I could kill right now, screams my exasperation enough. But still, I inhale deeply to soothe mind.
Calm down.
He is a kid. He is a goddamn kid. My eyes slowly shift down to the book he is reading. The immortal devil, it says. So Ken's information is accurate. This kid is interested in stuffs like that. "Do you believe in devils and monsters?" I query out loud. I swear, if he doesn't respond.
Even so, Leo's eyes lift. The forest green color he owns. He must have gotten the same eyes color from his mother, Nesta Hindley. "Yes" He replies. Finally. He has spoken. He has talked at last, though it is quite short answer to hear. "Such a coincidence. I also too" I state calmly.
And his brows slowly raise. Oh. I see. This kid needs someone to share his interest. It seems his own parents are not into those stuffs. I mean who would be. I would not be as well if I never met that flirty devil. "I have a method to summon the devils. Would you like to join me?"
I narrow my eyes. "Who are you first of all?" Hm, he at least has awareness to be secure. "Verena Laurel" I hand out my hand. Howbeit, the kid hesitates. His frown begins to tighten in confusion. Did I approach too fast? "Leo Talon" Refusing to shake my hand, he introduces his name.
Fucking jerk.
I am enduring this irritation with everything I got before I cut this kid's hands off. I should quell the loathing. This kid is tough indeed. "You should enjoy your lunch before it turns cold. Warm meals are the best for humans, once a devil said" I inform and beckon at the platter.
The last four words I brag, attract Leo's attention fully. He tilts his head. "Ma'am Verena, it is not a good thing to lie when you seem uninterested in the devils. Why don't you leave the room? I have no intention to speak with you furthermore" Unexpected declaration comes up.
That's it.
He has crossed the limit.
"Listen kid, they are not false statements. In fact, I know a devil who is really annoying. If I am not attentive, I would drag you out of your delusional field instead. You should consider yourself appreciated because I understand how your passions works. I trust them. Devils are real"
I stand up from the couch. I planned to throw some insults and hurt him verbally. But I can't bring myself to do so in view of the fact that I have to get him on my side. I can't let go of my rage though I really want to. Leo stares up at me with unreadable gaze. What is that? Is he upset?
Is he annoyed? Is he regretting? Is he delighted? I can't tell at all. But one thing for certain, I have grasped his attention firmly in my hand. "Request Ken to contact me if you change your mind and want to summon devils with me" Flashing a faint smile at him, I step away from the spot.
The first meeting is sufficient. At least, I got this rude kid's eyes. After heading out, Ken is nowhere to be found. Did he really listen to my order? Whatever. I have to return. My mind is beginning to spin around. The energy is slowly running out. I must go back to home.
"Bet my son ignored your existence"
As soon as I reach to the entrance of the mansion, Nesta's voice prevents my steps. Shit. Why does she have to appear right now? My mind does not settle in tranquility at the moment. I can't concentrate on others at all. "Are you talking upon your experiences?" I question back.
Witnessing her smile vanishing into thin air. "My son and I have a great relationship. You should know when to give up already. He is tough to get through. His voice is rarely heard in this entire mansion" Nesta warns while crossing her arms. "I don't think he is that serene though"
I tilt my head. Yes, I feel like my legs are quivering from low energy but I have to taunt. This woman is shameless one who crosses limits. "In fact, we had a long conversation because I am aware how to handle a kid unlike some parents who can't even embrace their child's passion"
The fact is what I state.
She better accepts it. "You! Who are you to accuse me like that?! My son is not someone who is aware of his own passion! All he knows is to brag about the fucking devils! He is insane!" What the fuck. Never have I ever seen a mother like her before. How can she be this heartless?
I may have never had a child in my entire life before. But I know how to handle a kid. Rule number one is to never ruin their dreams and delusional thoughts although they don't make sense most of the time. Still, they are kids. They have things they are interested in too.
"You don't deserve to be mother"
I hiss and head towards the car.
Ignoring whatever she yells the next.
