Teja & Teva were sisters with Teja the eldest at a gap of 1 year. They were both outwardly & inwardly tough with strong controlling power. Their determined faces gave away an aura of confidence and beauty. They were even ready to sacrifice themselves to protect eachother as well as the clan. Then how could the clan not have faith in them ? Was it the effect of the discrimination that came from generations & generations ago?? Even the siblings knew that they were at disadvantage due to the people's mentality. But they would prove the clan that they were no less than their father. As long as the clan supported them they would serve the clan devotedly. It was high time that the world should know that even girls are equal to boys infact better than them.
With this energy they both walked out of the hut accompanied by Ataza. Their father Samaes was already waiting for them in the declaration ground of the village. Seeing them come he smiled broadly.
"Dears never loose patience..." Ataza kept on saying, "People will poke you to find out faults but deal with every situation judiciously. Never scream on your advisors. Listen to what they say carefully even if you don't use their views. Don't forget to express your views as well. But be careful, don't not annoy anyone & also don't give anyone special privileges or preferences. Always be equal to everyone."
Teja & Teva listened very carefully to what Ataza said.
"Maa calm down. We'll handle everything just the way you want." assured the two girls.
Ataza gave a relaxed look but from inside she was tense.
Samaes called the girls in the middle of the ground.Teja stood on his right & Teva on his left.
He cleared his throat and started, "My dear clan members, may I have your attention please. On this auspicious day, paying respect to my wife's request I hereby declare that after me my two daughters Teja & Teva will take over the position of the Chief of the clan."
The cheering which rose from the crowd was much less compared to what had risen when Samaes was declared the Chief. Ataza remembered that moment very well as it was one of the moments in her life when she had felt proud. But that day when she compared the two moments she felt an unknown pain thinking that when her man was declared the Chief, everybody cheered energetically but when that very man's & her's daughters were being selected everyone was showing their backs. But still she accepted the circumstances..
But something uncanny happened just after that.
