Child of Gaia

What would you do when all the stories that you were told as a kid were true? What would you also do when you suddenly wake up after a coma and find yourself being able to sense things that are not there? What would you do when your world crumbles in the blink of an eye? Adrian, after suffering all the misfortunes in life, finds himself in a strange situation where he is injected with something. They have awoken something in him. Something ancient. In a world where only those with gods, demons, supernatural beings and old ones wrestle for power, what would he do? Will his destiny carry him or will he make his own? This novel is part of the Spirity Contest and the number of votes will dictate mass releases. The pace will be slow since I like to focus more on world building.

I am Lugh

"IT HURTS!" Adrian screamed as his inside were burning.

Whatever he was injected with had a late effect. He thought it was some sort of anesthesia because they would harvest his organs, but he was wrong. If they were going to that then why does his insides feel that it is burning.

Adrian could feel that his body was shutting down. His eyes suddenly became heavy and blood coming out of his mouth. He could feel the life slipping out of him. A torrent of memories started flooding inside his brain.

The memories that flooded his head was not only his but that of people he could not recognize. Each memory was different from the other and they were of different people. Adrian no longer screamed as his mind is overloaded that the sensation of pain could no longer be registered.

"What is the meaning of this!?" A middle age man shouted.

"Joe!" Sofia muttered reflexively.

"Did I not tell you to awaken someone when I am not present? It would be disastrous if I am not here." Joe stated as he immediately went to Adrian to check his condition.

Joe went straight towards Adrian that was no longer spasming because of the pain. He checked the pulse and breathing but there was none. He sighed as someone once again failed the awakening. He then took a closer look at the face of the person they tried to awaken and shuddered.

"How did you choose this person!?" Joe exclaimed with rage as he remembered that the person tied up looked like someone in the Highly Confidential section.

"I…" Dustan stated but he was stopped by Sofia.

"I took a look at the Highly Confidential files and chose him because of his ability. He is a budding Empath and you even had a remark there that he is a candidate as the Child of Gaia.

We need an empath that could read memories, Joe. Deviants emerging from all over the world are starting crimes and murders. This is an unprecedent case because they usually feel afraid once they awaken." Sofia stated in a serious tone.

"You are afraid that the Inquisition will move if things become too chaotic. Still, I cannot forgive you for endangering the life of a child. He was just put as a candidate because all empaths are candidates.

You do know that empaths have become quite rare in the world ever since the other groups started to look for the Child of Gaia. One being born after the other dies might even be a myth or a rumor that someone spread so that empaths will get killed.

Are you happy that you killed a kid with a promising future!? I know you are impatient and do not like the Inquisition but being rash leads to disastrous consequences." Joe stated in frustration.

While Joe and Sofia were having a discussion….

"Where am I? It feels cozy." Adrian stated as his soul freely floated in eternal darkness, but he felt that he was in someone's caress.

"It is time to wake up my child. The world needs you. I need you." A beautiful feminine voice stated. The voice made Adrian felt warm and comfort.

Adrian forced himself to awake as he still had his eyes closed and it felt like he was still dreaming. When he opened his eyes, everything was dark as it he is surrounded by eternal darkness. He suddenly remembered the events that transpired before he was sent to this place.

"Am I dead?" Adrian asked himself.

"No, but you are." A voice that is like Adrian's answered but it was more condescending and arrogant in tone.

"Hmmm" Another voice grunted but it seemed like Adrian himself grunted.

"It seems like our last disastrous death took a great toll on your part of the soul. You really should stop being a martyr." The condescending voice that sounded like Adrian stated.

"Who are you! And why did you say, 'Our last disastrous death'?" Adrian asked as the voices in his head does not make sense.

"What do you mean by that question? I am you of course." The condescending voice stated as Adrian's body suddenly split into three.

Each body emitted a different color. One was green, another golden while the other pitch black. The Adrian that questioned everything had the green body. The condescending one had the golden one while the grunting one had the pitch black one.

Adrian's mind started to flood with memories that was not his own. At least not the memories he possessed of this life.

"Has your memory returned, Child of Gaia?" The golden condescending Adrian asked.

"Hmm" The pitch-black Adrian grunted as he observed the Adrian that was glowing green.

"Parts of it, Morningstar." The green Adrian stated as there was a sudden shift in his personality. The change was not much but you could see a slight air of confidence in him.

"Well, what should we do to the ones outside? They basically killed us…killing us. Should we ask the elder?" The golden Adrian stated with a smirk as it looked towards the pitch-black Adrian. The pitch-black Adrian did not respond and seemed annoyed rather than pleased.

"I will handle it." The green Adrian stated but the golden Adrian stopped him.

"You should rest and reorganize your thoughts although you do not really need that. You know what happens every time three of us awaken. I will handle the commotion first. It has been a while since I was the main body." The golden Adrian stated as he vanished from their subconscious.

=====

"I told you to wait for my command every time an important decision like this is going to be made." Joe argued.

The two kept arguing inside the room while the others just stayed silent. One of them suddenly noticed that Adrian's dead body started to twitch. Adrian's thin body started to change as it was slowly gaining muscle mass until he became slightly muscular.

"Uhmm…Are dead bodies supposed to twitch like that?" Whiz asked.

All the people in the room suddenly stopped arguing and turned their gaze towards Adrian. Adrian's face that was thin from malnutrition suddenly started to become normal. His skin that was full of scars and blemishes started to become fair.

The individuals in the room could see someone undergoing what the eastern people call as 'Cleansing of the Body'. Adrian could be said to be born anew due to dying once even though he was not really dead. He was just in a state of limbo where he is neither truly dead nor truly alive.

Everyone apart from Joe slowly walked towards Adrian as they were curious. Joe immediately warned them to not move, and they stopped in their tracks as they felt something dangerous. All of the people suddenly dropped to the ground as if gravity increased in their area.

They can only lift up their face as they saw Adrian breaking away from his shackles. Adrian then walked towards them with a large smirk but that is not the only thing different. Adrian's eyes became golden from the dark brown color it had before.

"Who are you!?" Joe asked with great effort as he tried to bring his head up.

"I am Adrian. Wait…hmmm…You must be confused as I am not the one you strapped up earlier. Well, it was me, but it was not 'me'. It might be confusing so I will have another introduction. I am Lugh." Adrian stated with a devilishly charming smile.
