Do you remember now, Diana?

Diana POV

I drove to the hospital after having coffee with my mother. She didn't say much while treating my wounds. After she applied her healing balm, my wounds and bruises became less visible, and less painful now.

My mother is a scientist and an advocate of modern technology for healing. She's a type of person who values intelligence and competence. With a very strong personality, she despises all forms of vulnerability - tears, wounds, and love.

I once told her that those don't usually imply weakness. I cried happy tears when I topped the licensure examination for doctors. My mother just gave me a timid smile, as she told me that I don't need to cry and that she never doubted my capabilities.

When I was eighteen, I got wounded from falling off my horse during an equestrian competition, bagging first place. My mother kept a straight face, and then gave me a proud smirk and a slow clap from the VIP room. She told me I should've finished the race without falling.

When I was twelve, my beloved pet cat died from her sleep. We were always together day and night, in good times and in bad. When she died, I grieved as I turned night into day. One night, my mother came to my room and said.. "The death of your father should be no less from other losses you'll have in your life".

Often times she amazes me, but sometimes I don't like her ways and beliefs.

I arrived at the hospital and spotted the reserved parking slot for me only to see that there's a familiar red sedan, with initials on the rear window that says 'L.MURPHY', that's already parked there.

"Again?", I said irritably. Dr. Murphy is my archnemesis ever since I came to this hospital. He thinks that my medical achievements and disposition in life would be nothing without the money and influence of my mother.

After medical school, I applied and climbed my way through where I am now in this hospital - making myself as the youngest chief resident of the surgery department. Many were inspired, but most were intimidated.

For a time, I was bullied and was in the bottom of the food chain. With my intellect and tenacity, I was able to go through pins and needles proving I am worthy of my position, but not with Dr. Murphy.

As soon as my mother knew that I was a subject of bullying in the hospital, she invested a large sum of money becoming a major shareholder there. She then supplied most drugs and medications in this hospital making her a valuable part owner.

I specifically told her to keep it low. However, everytime she gets news that her precious daughter is belittled by Dr. Murphy, she doesn't intend to back down. And recently, I was made the newest board member of DW Medical Hospital to assure that I will be an untouchable Woodsworth like her.

I parked my car in the available slot which is farthest from the main entrance. I got out of my car wearing

a white collared blouse, cream plaid blazer and a matchinh A-line skirt. I hang my white coat on my arm, secured my phone and car keys in my pocket, then proceeded in the hospital.

Today is my first day back, so I intend to see the Chief of Surgery to report initially. As I entered the elevator, my day started to become worse.

"Dr. Woodsworth! I didn't know you'll be back today", Dr. Murphy said as he crossed his arms. "I parked my car on your slot, I hope you don't mind".

"Actually, I do, Dr. Murphy.", I said blandly. "Next time I see your car parked there, I'll have it towed.. with your head under the tires", I added.

"With the help of dear mummy, of course?", Dr. Murphy said as he sarcastically smiled before getting out of the elevator. "Oh and congratulations on being a new board member! I knew you always had it in you.. I mean your mother", he said as he left.

I stared blankly as the elevator doors closed then sighed deeply. That old man is such a pain in the ass, and I know this will never end.

I reached the office of the Chief, and knocked twice before opening the door.

"Dr. Blackwell", I said as I greeted my mentor and my father's colleague who's one of the first persons in this hospital who believed in my capabilities. He's a huggable brown haired fully bearded big guy with a soft heart, and sharp mind. He's like a father to me, who guided and taught me everything he knows.

"Diana! What a pleasant surprise! How's your.. your trip?", He asked hesitantly. He knows that I got stood up from the wedding considering he's the only person from this hospital aside from Kate who I invited to my wedding.

"Please sit down, make yourself comfortable", he smiled pleasantly as always.

"It was fun. I just had to come back. I'm missing Murphy", I said as I sat down on the black chair.

"Did he bothered you again? Don't mind that old geezer. He just sees himself in you.", he said as he clasped his hands together on the table.

"What happened to your face?", as he leaned forward looking directly at my forehead.

"Just a minor hiccup during my trip. I'm fine now, ready for rounds and surgery", I said as leaned back and rested my arms on the arm chair.

"Oh no no. You know I don't let my surgeons hold a scalpel with a preoccuppied mind", he worriedly said.

"I'm fine Dr. Blackwell, it's getting better", I insisted as show him my bruises.

"Dr. Woodsworth. Two more days. Anyhow, you are supposedly in a vacation for honeymoon. I'll give you two more days out of the surgery charts.", as he lifted up two fingers.

"For now, work with the case studies and patient rounds. I'll send the memo to your secretary", Dr. Blackwell continued as he pick up his phone calling his secretary to make the memo.

"But Dr. Blackwell..", I said as he cut me off.

"Diana, I need my surgeons to be 100 percent focused with a clear mind. With the look of your bruises, you are not okay. I should send you home but this is the best I can do.", he said as he finished his call.

"Can I go to my office now, Dr. Blackwell?", I asked as I stood up.

"Yes, That would be all Diana.", he smiled as nodded at me. "And, will you tell me soon what happened? You've never been physical with your fights..", he added.

"Dr. Blackwell, do you believe in humans turning to wolves?" I asked as I stood up facing him.

Astonished with my question, Dr. Blackwell leaned backward and steepled his fingers.

"So it has finally come to this.. Yes, it's a famous folklore your dad and I believed on.", he added.

Dr. Blackwell stood up and walked towards me.

"Do you remember now, Diana?", he asked as he stared at my eyes.
