Mike left Vera at the airport an hour before her flight. She had bought it online on the way using Mike's phone and sent the ticket to her own when everything was done. She had written a short report on her phone and sent it as soon as she had logged on to the WiFi in the airport.
She had finished her mission and was ready to go to Milan, where she would be sent over to the next mission but it was too late to despair. Staying at home would have been worse - with or without other cases.
And, this time, she could see no brightness in her future. Other than Mike, she had no friends. Other than Ethan, no allies.
The seer was right: she was not alone. But she couldn't trouble the few people she had close with her problems.
She gave her passport to the police officer at the gate and passed the check-in without any idea that her movements were being tracked. More tracked than usual.
