Chapter 39: I will wait

Chapter 39:

She was pulled into a warm embrace. What she had longed for!

"I missed you" she heard him say.

She didn't say anything and just clung tightly to him. After they'd hugged, they separated but he still held unto her.

"Do you want to come in?" She asked looking at his face. She noticed that he was a bit tensed.

"Are you alright? Did something happen?"

He sighed. Ariel nodded.

"Let's talk inside".

He nodded and they went in.

When he entered, the laughter in the living room ceased. Tyra smiled in greeting while Gina couldn't react.

What was he doing here?! No way!

Rex saw the way Gina was looking at him but he ignored her and sat down. Gina suddenly smiled and turned to Ariel.

"Big sis, who's he?" she asked, looking so innocent. She had noticed the way Rex Forbes treated her at the dinner party and now he was here?

Rex's ears perked up. He wanted to know what Ariel thought of him as.

"What else? He's her boyfriend", Tyra spoke. Ariel was shaken.

Was he? He hasn't even asked her out yet. They were just in what she described as situation ship.

Ariel looked at Rex. Her lips twitched. " I'll make you coffee", she said and left.

Gina giggled but when she felt that familiar cold gaze, she shut up.

Soon, Ariel arrived with the coffee. She handed it to him carefully.

Tyra looked at Gina and signalled her. The latter understood so they packed up and left the living room.

"You have such intelligent friends but I wouldn't even care about them if I wanted to kiss you".

Ariel blushed." What's up?"

Rex took a sip from the coffee cup and placed it gently on the side stool. He looked at her and then took her hand in his.

"I'd be leaving tonight".

Ariel curled her toes reflexively. She blinked severally, making her lashes flutter. This innocent act of hers got Rex worked up. He drew nearer and placed a kiss on her forehead. He then looked into her eyes.

"It's gonna be a long trip".

"How long?"

" Two months ". Ariel's heart sank. It was quite long. So...they would be away from each other for two months?

"I just wanted to let you know. The helicopter would be here soon".

Ariel lowered her eyelids and her lashes quivered. Subconsciously, tears dropped from them into there hands that were entwined.

"Was the company affected?"

"Don't worry about it".

" I'm not worried about it. I'm worried that you'd overwork yourself. I just need you to take care of yourself. Don't get hurt, for any reason ".

Rex was touched. He stood from his seat and went to hers. He carried her in his arms, making her straddle him. The air surrounding them was filled with passion and romance.

"Don't cry. I will take care of myself. I will be fine. I just hate it that you're not there".

" Once I'm done with what I'm doing, I will come to meet you ".

" No. Just wait for me here. When I come back, I will ask you out properly ".

Ariel buried her face in his neck. She was going to miss him. Apart from Tyra and Gina, Rex was a person she has come to rely on. And her heart...was on another level after she met him. She had grown fond of him and was always expecting to see him each day.

"Come back safely. I...will miss you".

A soft smile graced his lips when she said that. She was going to miss him?! He would make this trip as short as possible to come back and make her his.

"I will miss you too baby".

A whirling sound came from the sky and this fueled Ariel's tears. A call came in. It was from Jim.

"Boss, we're ready to leave".

"Alright. I'm coming". He hung up.

Ariel pulled her head from beside his neck. She moved her face closer, though shy, she kissed him. She wasn't so good but her inexperience fueled the desire that was pent-up within him.

Rex took over immediately and delved deeper into her mouth causing her to be overwhelmed. After sometime, they were a bit satisfied, he lowered her gently so that she could stand but her legs were soft. He held her in his arms and pecked her lightly on the lips.

"Wait for me baby. I will come back for you".

" I will wait ".
