Chapter 20: What a grandson!

The living room was unusually lively today at the Forbes family home. All eyes were on Rex who sat cross-legged on the one-seater dark grey sofa. The man in question wasn't even bothered. He was going through some files on the tablet that was in his hand. Jim stood beside him as always.

"Don't you think we need an explanation?"

There was no response. Grandpa Forbes trembled with anger. This grandson of his was really so hard to tame. He was so unlike his father who always tried his best to please him.

"Rex! Your grandfather is talking to you", Mrs. Forbes said her voice filled with motherly warning. Rex paused on his work and raised his head. He looked at the old man in the eyes. His pair of icy blue eyes killed the old man's sickly ones. Grandpa Forbes flinched. What kind of feeling was that?

Rex set his eyes back to the tablet and continued what he was doing. "I don't need to report to anyone, do I?

"We are your family for God's sake!", the old man nearly shouted.

Rex nodded. True. They were his family but, why is it that it's always for their own selfishness that they always worked for?

"How come I didn't notice? It's so annoying if u keep screaming from there gramps".

Grandpa Forbes choked. His grandson! What a grandson!

"You shouldn't talk to your grandpa like that", Mrs. Forbes reprimanded. She didn't want her son to be hated in the family. Though she was married into the first family, it was as if she shouldn't have married into it.

There was three family in the Forbes family. Rex's father being the first and then two other sons. Grandma Forbes died at the birth bed of the last son. This made Grandpa Forbes have a special liking for the last son and everything he does. The first son was the least one that he liked. However, he still made the son of the first family the heir to the family's inheritance.

After sometime of quietness, Rex stood to go. "I'm leaving".

"Bring that girl here, I want to see her".

Rex was expressionless. He looked at the old man condescendingly." Why? "

"We need to assess the kind of people coming into the Forbes family. We don't need riff raffs".

" For your entertainment? You're looking for who to control? Don't worry. She's even above your standard. You should pray that she even accepts to enter the family ". He turned on his heels and left.

Grandpa Forbes looked at Mr. Forbes who was tapping off a rhythm on his foot.
