Burned World

The world is about to end and the last people who survive are some teenagers who have no idea what is going to happen. And I'm not talking about the man behind the cameras.

They have their eyes everywhere

''No!'' I suddenly sit up with with tears in my eyes and a heavy breathing while everyone's eyes are focused onto me without that it makes any god damn sense.

''Avery! You are awake!'' Aidan gasps and smiles at me widely like I have been gone for a long time.

God stop annoying me right now, what I saw is worse!

''Yeah yeah whatever, hi Carmen, how's Caroline? Wait. I don't care.'' I grin at my cousin widely which opens her mouth and closes it again.

''He-- OH MY GOD YOU REMEMBER!'' Carmen shouts loudly and wraps her arms around me but I put them away as soon as I remember what I saw.

Black hole. Finnegan. Maybe dead. Blood. Hole. Helpless.

''Where is Finn?!'' I yell loudly and several people wince at the noise of my voice.

Back to normal fellas.

''He ran out of the house and I haven't seen him since.'' Jaden exclaims with a concerned look on his face and I groan, running outside of the tent without even tripping over anything.

Really OG be like, huh?

''Which direction?'' I glare at the boy but he shrugs helplessly.

Even though I seem strong from the outside, I am not. I am more worried than ever before and the panic is just getting bigger with every second I am not moving.

Every second I don't know how and where Finnegan is.

''He will die if we don't find him soon!'' I let out shakily and it is silent around me for a moment until Jaden speaks up.

''What..?''

God I really don't know what Finn likes on him.

''I saw it! I saw everything! It was like a sudden brainstorm, flood with pictures and horrible scenarios which were looking way too real for not being worried about it.'' I start walking around nervously while Aidan laughs awkwardly.

''What if it just was a nightmare?'' He smirkes weirdly and I glare at him with a probably unbelievable hateful look in my eyes.

''That's what you call being a best friend?'' I hiss and he backs off while rasing his arms innocently.

''Called it.'' Kaitlyn says and rolls her eyes, apparently as annoyed as me from Aidan.

Aidan has a big ego and this mostly keeps his true intentions deep into himself and this makes him look like a complete asshole. It is hard to like him if you don't know his nice side.

''Now!'' I slowly start to feel the panic coming up my chest and my eyes are looking around nervously like I am on the run.

Everything inside of me is tensing up and my heart feels like it is too close to my rips through what I let out a helpless, gasping sound. Adrenaline floods my system. It pumps and beats like it is trying to escape. I think my heart will explode and my eyes are wide with fear that Finn could be dead already. My body wants to either run fast for finding him or into the opposite direction for giving up but instead I remain where I am. Let's face it, there is really only one thing I can do; Pray he is alright and it was really just a nightmare. My adrenaline surges so fast I almost vomit. At some point I'll have to move and I'll have to live with what I decide.

''Shit oh shit, where do we go first?'' Parker now also wides his eyes fearfully while Jaden carries on staring at an imaginary spot.

''Let's split in groups, that will help the most.'' I glance determined at everyone, trying to figure out who will have the highest chance to get along with all of them and find Finnegan in teamwork.

''Okay, Carmen, Diana, Will and Ethan are one group. Kaitlyn, Leah, Maddison and Amanda are another one. Lydia, Caleb, Eli and Parker the third one. Left are Aidan, Jaden and me.'' I decide fastly and ignore the annoged looks from several of them without hesitation.

''Group one, go west. That's the direction where the forest is.''

The members of the group nod and grab their stuff before running into the direction fastly.

''Group two, go east. That's where you can see the mountains far away, just carry on searching into that direction through downtown.''

The next ones also get ready and move fastly with all their things, including flashlights, downtown.

''Group three, take the north part. Just follow the path we found next to the fields.''

It doesn't take more than five minutes and they also make their way to the north.

Now one left.

''Group four, we take the south. I did that on purpose because the Southside looks more like my vision than the rest. Let's hurry.'' I instruct my group and go to the tent, searching for a bag to put in some stuff we will might need.

Flashlight, some food, some water and a first aid kid which was either already here or came together with me. I guess.

''Everyone ready? Go!''

Without that any more words are needed, we start running fastly around the lake and over the hill next to the south gate.

Making our way through uptown, we don't stop for a second. Even when the pain under my rips from the running gets to the worst I don't stop. Nothing can stop me any longer.

''Guys-!'' Jaden breathes heavily and stands still, gasping after air unregulary.

''What? We need to carry on walking.'' I roll my eyes but he shakes his head, pointing to the rock which is around 10 meters away from us.

''There are several holes, it's nearly like a canyon. We found it when we were trying to create a map, so maybe Finn is there.'' Jaden coughs for catching more air than he can use and Aidan glares at him in annoyance.

Give this boy a break Aidan. Jeez.

''That sounds like a plan.'' Aidan suddenly agrees with him and nods slowly, his vision focused on the rock.

''Okay. Come on.''

Jogging the last metres along, I nearly trip and fall into a hole which is at least around ten meters deep, if I had to guess.

''Oh my-!'' I gasp but Jaden holds me back on the loop of my bag so that I don't fall and die.

''There's water. You don't die when you can swim.'' Aidan points down but I facepalm, not believing how stupid this statement is.

''It depends on how much water it actually is. I mean, yeah, if it would be five metres or water without sharp rocks on the ground you could technically survive it but we don't know how deep the water actually is.'' Jaden shrugs and speaks me out of the soul with that.

Continuing to look down there, I slowly begin to perceive the urge to puke because of the sudden dizziness which overtakes me.

''Urgh.'' I step back and swallow heavily the disgusting taste in my mouth down from what I grimace weirdly.

''How do we get down there without dying?'' Aidan mutters but no one has an answer.

Of course no one has an 'answer'. How should we know what to do when all we did before we were here was playing computer games, going to school for learning unnecessary knowledge we will never need again, living a carefree life with our legal guardians and going outside with our friends.

All the apocalypse games we played don't give us a lot of opportunities to understand when it is with a controller. We don't care if we die in a game, because we know we will just respawn. Fighting with guns and other weapons is easy with an aim bot.

We can recall the introductions for understanding how everything works.

Real life doesn't have an introductions. You are lost as long as you don't understand all of this.

Die one time and it is game over.

''Maybe there is a lower hole which conduct us to the other ones?'' Jaden suggests helplessly and I nod agreeingly.

''Yeah, let's split and then just shout when you find one.'' I try to show a confident smile but it ends up in another painful grimace.

Starting to walk towards the side, holes on the out are suddenly starting to look bigger. Not like they randomly grow, it just seems like the outline of a six metre long circle.

''This is useless.'' I sigh to myself when I look over the amount of holes and the expansiveness of them.

Thinking I am not going to find anything anyway, I suddenly trip over a stone and fall in one of the smaller ones with a loud scream but get cut off when deep water surrounds me.

My arms are heplessly trying to reach the air above me but the pressure of the water holds me down. My entire body is throbbing, my lungs feel as though they've been set on fire. Slowly, black begins to seep in at the edge of my vision but I fight against it. I keep fighting until I feel like my head is about to explode, I have to take a breath.

Through the panic which is holding me intact and my adrenaline up, I am able to get my head over the surface for a moment and gasp after air, a freeing feeling setting free in my lungs. I enjoy it too early.

The moment I think I am more or less save again, the small waves pull my head down again.

I start to whirl upside down and decide to try something I learned in the lifeguard lesson we had in school for a month.

Making myself into a pack with my knees onto my chest and my arms wrapped around it, I squeeze my eyes tightly together and don't move any longer.

Thinking that death is going to get me, I nearly gasp too early when I suddenly feel myself floating up in the water until a new cold reaches my back.

The second I feel it, I turn around and my face is free. I can breathe. It worked.

''Gu-!'' I want to scream for the others but am swallowing too much water and end up in helpless coughing until something hits my head softly and I flinch while trying to keep my head up.

With a relieved expression in my face, I grab after the edge of the rock I just reached and pull myself up with a groan.

I arrive at the uncomfortable, stony ground and let myself lie on my back, never feeling more relieved and thankful to breathe.

Near death experience; check.

Even though I know that I should carry on searching, my entire body is just way too tired and I close my eyes for a moment.

Just that the 'moment' gets me into a sleep.
