Chapter 155: Choosing the Desolate Hall
Soon, the disciples were divided among the sects. Xiao Tian, Lin Dong, Mo Ling, and others chose to join the Desolate Hall.
The Elder of Enlightenment looked at Xiao Tian and remarked, "Xiao Tian, I didn't expect you to have such boldness!"
"Since I came here, I want to choose the strongest technique," Xiao Tian replied with a smile. "Old man, we'll be following you from now on."
"Such impudence," the Elder of Enlightenment chuckled, then said, "Although your choice pleases me, it will also bring you trouble in the future."
"Those troublemakers are just minor nuisances. If anyone dares to challenge me, I'll teach them a lesson," Xiao Tian said nonchalantly. He didn't regard the Nirvana Realm disciples as threats. Even Ying Huanhuan was not his match.
"Alright, let's head to the Desolate Hall!" the Elder of Enlightenment said.
...
The Desolate Hall was located in the southwestern corner of Dao Sect. Dozens of towering peaks formed a ring, with waterfalls cascading down like rivers from the heavens, filling the air with thunderous roars. The peaks were dotted with numerous halls, bustling with people moving about, creating a lively atmosphere. Surrounding these peaks was a river thousands of feet wide, filled with Nirvana Qi. This river was also known as the Dan River.
The Elder of Enlightenment said to the group, "Our Desolate Hall has three thousand disciples and three hundred direct disciples, all of whom were selected from thousands of candidates. There are also over ten thousand outer disciples who need to pass tests to become true disciples."
After explaining the situation, he turned to Xiao Tian and said, "Xiao Tian, given your performance, you will be granted the status of a direct disciple. Normally, winning the Hundred Dynasties Battle would earn you a chance to bathe in the Dan River, but you don't need Nirvana Qi now."
"I don't need it, but my brother-in-law does!" Xiao Tian replied, pulling Lin Dong forward. "I want to give my opportunity to him."
"Alright," the Elder of Enlightenment nodded, granting Xiao Tian's request. He then told Lin Dong, "Prepare yourself for tomorrow. I and the hall master will personally assist you with the Dan River baptism."
...
While Xiao Tian and his companions were settling into the Desolate Hall, Ying Huanhuan arrived at the Heaven Hall. This hall also had a Dan River, far superior to the one in the Desolate Hall. Ying Huanhuan went straight to the deepest part of the Dan River to a training platform.
On the platform sat a woman in black, her long, soft hair tied with a blue ribbon. Her hands rested on her knees, fingers forming a seal with a green sword between them, emitting fine sword energy that even cut through the surrounding Nirvana Qi. This woman was Ying Xiaoxiao, the foremost disciple of the Heaven Hall and Ying Huanhuan's elder sister.
"Sister!" Ying Huanhuan called, pouting as if she were wronged.
Hearing her, Ying Xiaoxiao opened her eyes. Her cold face softened a bit. "Weren't you with Uncle Wei choosing new disciples? Why do you look upset?"
"Don't mention it," Ying Huanhuan huffed. "I wanted to see the skills of the Hundred Dynasties Battle champion, but he's just an arrogant fool."
"What happened?" Ying Xiaoxiao asked.
"He refused to join the Heaven Hall and chose the Desolate Hall to practice the Grand Desolation Scripture," Ying Huanhuan explained.
"As a genius, it's normal to have ambition," Ying Xiaoxiao said softly, for the first time showing some emotion.
"He thinks he's so special!" Ying Huanhuan retorted. "If it were that easy to master, the Desolate Hall would have surpassed the Heaven Hall by now. Even you couldn't master it!"
Ying Xiaoxiao shook her head. "The Grand Desolation Scripture isn't compatible with me, but that doesn't mean others can't master it."
"Why are you defending him?" Ying Huanhuan pouted. "Do you really think he can succeed?"
Ying Xiaoxiao replied, "For someone to rise from a minor dynasty to become the champion of the Hundred Dynasties Battle, he must have some extraordinary qualities. I'd give him a twenty percent chance of success."
"I don't see anything special about him," Ying Huanhuan grumbled. "He even dared to bet with me. If he loses, I get to decide his fate. You wouldn't want your sister to be bullied, would you?"
Ying Xiaoxiao remained indifferent. "That's your own business. I have more important things to do."
"Oh, really?" Ying Huanhuan's eyes sparkled. "I heard he's close with Ling Qingzhu from the Nine Heavens Taiqing Palace!"
At this, the sword energy around the platform intensified. Ying Xiaoxiao's eyes focused on her sister. "Is that true?"
"Absolutely," Ying Huanhuan confirmed. "During the ancient battlefield, Ling Qingzhu shook hands with him. Everyone from the eight super sects saw it. If you don't believe me, you can ask anyone."
"Swoosh!"
The overwhelming sword energy split the Dan River in front of them as Ying Xiaoxiao turned into a light streak, disappearing in a few breaths.
"I knew mentioning Ling Qingzhu would get her attention!" Ying Huanhuan grinned mischievously, then called out, "Wait for me, Sister!" and flew off to follow her.
She was eager to see Xiao Tian being taught a lesson by her sister.
...
In the Desolate Hall's area, Xiao Tian was about to lend Lin Dong the Devouring Ancestral Symbol. Lin Dong was now at the Five Yuan Nirvana Realm, one level stronger than in the original story. If the Dan River baptism succeeded, he would break through to the Six Yuan Nirvana Realm.
Suddenly, a cold voice echoed through the air. "Junior Brother Xiao Tian, I challenge you!"
Everyone in the Desolate Hall looked up to see a beautiful woman in black, carrying a long sword and standing proudly in the sky.
"It's Senior Sister Ying Xiaoxiao from the Heaven Hall!"
"I heard the Hundred Dynasties Battle champion Xiao Tian chose the Desolate Hall over the Heaven Hall. Is she here because of that?"
"Though I want to support Senior Sister Ying Xiaoxiao, Xiao Tian is from our Desolate Hall. I'm with him on this one."
...
The entire Desolate Hall area buzzed with discussion.
Xiao Tian felt exasperated. He had just arrived at Dao Sect and hadn't provoked anyone, so why was he suddenly being challenged to a duel?
