Chapter 49: Sweet Oblivion

This encounter frightened Meshaye and caused her to realize that there were other, reasonably significant people in Severin’s life who were prepared to go to great lengths for him. She herself was not that into him that she would risk her safety. They were great as friends and she loved the attention when he listened to her, but not at the cost of her freedom or safety. So there was no way that she would allow him to become attached to her emotionally.

“Severin, I appreciate everything you’ve done for me and we will always be friends, but, perhaps you should make up with your wife?” Meshaye had said to him one afternoon, when they were having lunch at a beachside hotel.

“What do you mean?” Severin had responded, taken aback. “I thought we had the best kind of arrangement where I help you to become a popular artist and you inspire me to thrive in life, just by being with me. I can’t live without you, Meshaye,” he had murmured into her ear.
