A day after visiting the cemetery...
Edward is standing just outside the bedroom looking out on the terrace.
He looked out on the still busy streets despite the wee hours of the morning.
A lot of things came into his mind.
Thoughts that are unacceptable to him.
Thoughts that he prayed to God wouldn't ever become a reality.
Thoughts of losing "her".
He heaved a sigh.
A sigh of huge relief.
He raked his fingers through his hair.
He has already come to a decision.
He knows his mother Catherine will approve.
He felt her smile at him while looking at the sky yesterday.
His thoughts are interrupted when he felt "her" presence.
Edward could sense her presence immediately but he did not turn to look at her.
She put her arms around his waist and her chin on his left shoulder.
"Come back to bed. It's cold." she murmured.
He stayed silent.
Just enjoying this moment with her.
And because they were so attuned to each other, she couldn't help but ask.
"What's wrong?"
Edward removed her hands from his waist and faced her.
There is no other way.
"It's over."
She is filled with dread but still she asked what he meant.
"What do you mean Edward?" she said with a catch in her throat.
Instead of responding, he walked over to where her jewelry box lay.
He took it and gave it to her.
She looked at him puzzled.
"Open it!"
So she did.
She didn't notice him kneeling in front of her.
Her eyes are fixated on the ring nestled inside her favorite jewelry box.
Edward took her other hand and declared....
"Marry me my love!"
Surprised, she couldn't help the tears that flowed from her eyes.
"Are you sure my heart?" she asks in a broken whisper.
He nodded and stood up.
He took the ring.
"I can't imagine my life anymore without you in it my love! So please, marry me! Make me an honest man and do me the honor of marrying me!"
She is overwhelmed but still asked the question that's been bothering her for a while now.
"But what about your fiancé?"
It's Edward's turn to be surprised.
"How did you know?"
"Your mom came to me and told me." she says with hurt visible in her eyes.
Edward took her hands and kissed it.
"It doesn't matter anymore my love because it's you who I want to be with for the rest of my life! I'm ready to face the consequences of my decision! Because you...my love...is the best decision I have ever made in my entire life!" Edward declares before slipping the ring on her finger.
"Wait! I haven't said yes yet my heart!" she laughingly says in between tears.
Her heart is at peace.
All her worries are washed away with Edward's words and proposal.
She knows that it won't be easy.
But she's willing to fight for and with Edward.
Edward scooped her up in his arms and carefully laid her down on the bed.
"I'm not giving you a choice or a chance to reject me my love!" he says looking straight into her eyes and into her soul.
"Because...you...Mary Dale Entrata are mine!" he says before claiming her lips and making sure that she doesn't get her heart broken because of him.
In the end, the choice is ours.
The choice to love someone.
Or
The choice to break someone's heart.
