Ghosts of War

The weather was starting to chill again and get pleasant for the most part, but some nights slight rain fell, wind was a bit hard, and lightning split the sky. Tonight was one of those nights, and Debra eyed John with concern as he walked out the front door with Paul and got into the car. They drove to Betsy’s house, still sitting silently and barely touched since the funeral and John spoke to Paul as he drove.

“I think that Mark Edward Howell guy is significant. Caleb wanted that doll bad, and even though Isogul was a complete idiot, he had enough smarts to know how to ward off ghosts and to track down a lot of his family history.”

“You think he really was onto a treasure hunt?” Paul asked.

“Well, we found a rag doll, and thanks to a mouse chewing it we also found a note placed there long ago with a name on it. So far, all facts, no fantasies.”

“So I thought you looked for this Howell dude.”
