Still Broken

She offered him a place to cry on. He couldn't hold himself back. He was filled with grief. "I couldn't save them and now," he complained as he sobbed. "Who are these people you get sad about?" she asked. "My...," he sniffled. "You know what forget about it. Trying to talk about it makes me even sadder," he said as he rose. He washed his face and looked at the mirror..

He noticed Sarah in the reflection. She still sat down there, not moving. He got closer and realized she was crying. He dared not ask why. He caressed her cheek and stroked her hair as he comforted her. It was his urn. Though he dared not to, he went on.

"Why are you crying?" he asked. She sobbed. "I can't take it anymore," she managed to say before breaking down. What? Him not understanding her emotion or was the trauma finally taking effect. "What exactly?" he asked.

She didn't speak. Did he hurt her? "The world and everything. I still dread that day you rescued me and now I feel like a slave cause I owe you," she said. He'd guessed right. The trauma. All the bloody guts and blood rush. Maybe she couldn't handle it. "You don't have to feel entitled to me just cause I saved you. It's something that happened before," he said.

This answer came as a shock to her. "How did you handle it?" she asked curiously. "Handle what?" he inquired.. He didn't get what she meant. Was she talking about how he handled the Necroa virus situation or the zombies or something he didn't know. More endless questions roamed his mind. He liked being straight forward and not ambiguous.

"How did you save me? Why me and let the others die?" she asked. The question came in anger. She was angry though she still sobbed in his chest. Even, then, he couldn't answer. The question was difficult. Mostly, the second one. Her memory began to play back. 'At the time, she had fainted. But if she remembers her mates, then maybe her emotions towards me is anger,' he said to himself.

This was how he understood what she was feeling. Completely opposite from what she actually felt towards him. He tried to dodge the question. "I'm sorry about your mates, but I must leave now," he said. Neither harshly nor coldly; in fact there was no emotion behind the statement. She wondered why his mood changed suddenly. If she knew what he understood from her question, she would not bother wondering.

He'd have to leave someday and he'd let her go with out thinking about it ever again. He thought over the choice, not finding a suitable reason to think otherwise, he stuck to his choice. "Sarah I have to leave and take care of some important matters," he said. This statement came out more as an order than a a plea. She felt unsafe mostly because he'd changed rapidly and she did not know why.

She had no other choice than to let him go. She got up and walked to the bedroom; Alex's bedroom. She lay on the bed and began thinking. What might have been the root cause? What happened? Maybe it was the question she posed.

She ran through all the questions at once and didn't find anything. The voice came again and she began hyperventilating. "Save us," Distorted voices said in a screeching sound. She didn't know where the sound came from. All she could remember was that one of her team mates said that. The voices replayed again and again. She realized that was Ace's voice being repeated over and over.

Someone refused to save them and they died. It broke her to think that her fellow survivors were mindless zombies roaming around town and could die from an attack by a human. She wondered what kind of person Alex was. Apart from his name, she practically knew nothing else about him. And he didn't know anything. An idea struck her.

She thought about sitting down and asking him about himself. She wanted to do this mostly because of her sister, Princess Lina. No, they weren't descended from a royal family or such. She knew that Princess would be searching under every nook and cranny for her. She also knew that Princess could end up killing Alex.

Why? She'd be thinking that he'd kidnapped her for personal benefits. Though that wasn't the case, Princess could and may do it. Sarah stood up and walked to a nearby window. She stared out side to the large green field. That's when she noticed a small book with a brown cover. The cover seemed to be made out of wood.

She opened and read it. She noticed that the handwriting was lady-like. The last statement in the book stated: "I love you Alex but I can't stand it." It looked like a personal journal given what was in the book. 'Uh.. So that's why he can't get my emotions. It's because he's already faced a heart break.

Then, she thought she understood why he cried saying he couldn't save them. The lady in the book was one of them. She still wondered who the 'them' was. "Sarah!" Alex exclaimed. "What are you doing in my room?" She was startled and trembled.
