You know how parents pass down a genetic trait to their offspring? Yeah well this story has nothing to do with that. Vampires had always been the problem, constantly trying to ruin the world. Nature has a weird way of balancing things you know? Predator-Prey? You name it. But the vampires are trying to escape that! Every century they evolve, fighting nature and her "cruel" will. What is going to happen when even the Sun (their natural enemy) can't stop them? It's Amber's responsibility to keep this balance or we all perish!

Chapter Two

Thursday afternoon at around one thirty, Amber climbed down from her bed. Last night had been hectic and she had busied herself with her computer typing, searching and cursing, she had to round up this project as soon as possible. The more she waited for a few seconds, or minutes, her work got bigger for her.

She headed straight to her bathroom, took her toothbrush and added toothpaste on it. She took a glance of herself in the mirror.

"So horrible"she muttered at herself in her bogus pyjamas. Ten minutes was all she needed to finish brushing and changing into her bathrobe. She removed her hair band from her already tangled hair and began brushing it backwards. Earlier, as a teen she had attempted straightening her auburn wavy hair, and even coloring it to blonde....

"But nooo..."she said to herself still looking in the mirror. Her hair turned out to be one heck of a stubborn one and since then, she paid less attention to it 'Literally'. She slipped her robe and let it meet the cold tiles of the bathroom, then she heard a faint knock downstairs.

"What the f***... I'm not expecting anyone" she murmured, quickly wore her robe back making sure to tighten the knot and went downstairs to the setting room.

Opened the door.... She was too breathless to speak. Without a second thought she slammed the door but Jayden quickly placed his leg between the door making it impossible to close.

"I know... I'm sorry for how I behaved yesterday, I truly was in a hurry" he said and slowly the door opened wide.

"I get it Mr. Ross..." she was interrupted."Yeah about that, I never told you my name" he said, his eyes sweeping over her. It was difficult to detect any pleasing shape on her body.

"I'm a computer engineer, there's no computer I can't hack? How do u think I knew your schedules?" she muttered.

"Don't underestimate me Mr. Ross, I was damn serious with what I said and besides even though I'm to reconsider, it won't be now... As you can see..." she said gesturing to herself. "I'm busy!" This time she caught him off guard and slammed the door shut,'Damn!' he thought.

'Who does she think she is?'he loved the way her auburn hair laid smoothly at her back. Jayden fancied blondes, like Paige but auburn? 'Nah!' he retreated and drove out.

Her bath was brief, she quickly wore a trouser jump suit and took her band, then thought for a moment, kept the band and packed her hair to a bun style. She quickly struggled into her sneakers, headed for her car and drove out.

She pulled into the library's parking area, she jumped out as fast as she could, locked her door and headed straight into the library.

Girls like her doesn't bother to wear heels or try to make their life more difficult by applying makeups, or wearing eye contacts or whatever girls do to look good. With her sneakers, walking was less stressful...

Suddenly, she bumped into a tall, huge man and actually found herself on the floor the next second.

'Damn! My files' she cursed. Her butt hurt bad. She looked up to see the maniac, then he gave her a grin.... A GRIN! She actually fell and hit her butt hard and all he could do was to grin? Amber stood up and groaned, to her surprise...

"Don't tell me this is your way for a sweet revenge Mr. Ross" she gestured to the files that had slipped during her venture to the ground.

She went close to him and whispered in his ear "I think it's a bit low!" It seemed like his jaw was a bit chiseled from last time.

"Excuse me.... You must mistake me for someone else" He said regretting the fact that he had to be a twin.

"Really? Then I guess I can do this!" She said as she gave him a hard punch but he just kept smiling. 'Ahh!... He's irritating' she thought disgustingly.

"Not bad for a lady"

"I'm Jasper... Ross" he said and took her already throbbing hand for a shake. She didn't respond.

"And you are?" He tried to be polite."I'm Amber" then she withdrew her hand.

"Does it mean?" she paused, "Yeah, I guess you have meet my brother. What a coincidence" He bent and picked the file, and slowly handed it over to her. There was something about him she couldn't pinpoint.

"I'm sorry and thank you... I'm late" she said trying to avoid his eyes, went around him and opened the door, and slowly she slipped in. 'A VAMPIRE?'she thought.

Sandy Roderick walked sluggishly into the office with his walking stick. He got to the receptionist,

"Excuse me..." he said and the woman behind the desk glanced at him. "Good morning sir" she smiled, he wore a sunglass which hid his eyes and wore a wary smile.

"Can I see Mr. Ross?" he said as if his life depended on it. He had to fight the urge.

"Yes, but I'm not sure he's ready for any visitor"

"I won't take time I promise" he whispered, 'how would I say no to such an adorable old man' she thought.

"Okay then, I just hope he's in a good mood" she escorted him to Jayden's office but stopped at the door and left.

"Yeah, Becky is that you?" He stood up when he got no response and rushed to open the door with hope to find Amber.

"Thank goodness you..." his mouth dropped,

"Don't just stand there and stare at me, invite me in" Roderick said with a grin.

"Come in?" slowly he took a step inside his office, removed his glasses and looked at Jayden from his shoulders. He saw how shock passed through his face,

"What are you doing here?" He asked flatly. "Awwwn, come on! That's not how to talk to your saviour is it?" He turned to face Jayden, then his eyes turned red.

"It took me a great strength to leave that pretty receptionist earlier" he opened his mouth slightly to show off his fangs.

"Okay okay! Stop!" Jayden yelled.

"What do you want?"

"You! I want you, and your brother of course... To join my army" Roderick returned back to normal."What army?" He whispered.

"We want to wipe out all the witches in New Orleans. We got the news that their leader Ashley died years ago while giving birth..." He paused

"But the good news is, the baby turned out to be a girl" he saw how confused Jayden got.

"Good news? How is it good news?"

"According to the prophecy, a witch and a wizard will bear a child. Their child would be very powerful, he could move mountains and kill us... Vampires with just a flick of his hands..." he paused rolling his eyes.

"We can't let that happen" he said bluntly. "Okay... We?" He could feel all the hairs on his body stand at an attention. Roderick could tell he doesn't want to be in...

"Really!I would show you that you are one of us, that you owe me for saving your damn life!" he yelled and in no time was out of the office.

Jayden and Jasper had suffered from glaucoma years ago. They were gradually losing their sight. They were rich, orphans and then the universe just decided to make their perfectly perfect life... Well, horrible! By making them blind, their money was useless.

They had been informed by their doctor of the particular time of their total blindness.

It was a Friday night, they were invited to a party... That was when they meet Roderick. They told him everything and he offered them a chance to keep their sight, told them the consequences, advantages and without further thoughts they agreed and it was an honor for Roderick to change them into what he had become. 'His reasons are clear now' Jayden thought as he shook himself back to reality.

She rushed out of the library, her life's in a hurry. She got to her car, opened the door and slid in.

"Ahh!!!" She yelled,

"Hey!"she hit Jasper's shoulder. "I'm sorry, I never wanted to scare you" he said laughing. Amber had been told about the prophecy and she hated it... She tried her best to avoid it. 'Maybe... Just maybe I should try it out' she thought to herself. First there was silence and then both burst into laughter.

"You had to see your face!" he said holding his stomach.

"That's okay, how did you get here? I'm sure I locked the doors"

"I have my ways" he said with a grin. "Well... Our first encounter wasn't good thanks to me, so I wanted to make it up to you"

"Make it up?"she murmured. "Yeah, I was thinking maybe... Sort of... We could go out tomorrow, you name it" his left hand was rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

"Are you asking me out?" her green eyes were filled with emotions. "Err... Yeah" she burst into another laughter, then she could read the sad lines on his face.

"Wait you are serious?" And he just nodded slowly. "I just hit you few hours ago for simply bumping into me" he chuckled.

"Yeah, strange right... Will you? Name anywhere you will love to go to" she just stared at him disbelievingly and started searching he's features, he was tensed.

"Sure I'll go... But you would have to chose the venue, giving me that privilege, I doubt you'd love where I choose" she grinned. She saw how his face relaxed.

"Okay, is my house okay? But if you..." He was interrupted. "Yeah its okay" 'If ever I change my mind about the prophecy, at least I have to know them better' she thought.

"Since that's settled, I guess you might wanna get down now" she said smiling, she had wasted more time than she could spare. "Oh! Silly me" he got off her car and waved her goodbye.

"You know it's a huge amount you are asking for?" Becky said across the table, she took her glass of wine and sipped it.

"Yeah, you know its for a better course... When I finally hit jackpot, it would be worth the troubles" Paige tucked her hair at the back of her ear. She wore a black high waist trouser, white long sleeve crop top which exposed her stomach. She let hair long hair fall at her back with every strand well combed.

"Enough about business what about your boss?" she grinned.

"Err! Okay I'm confused..." Rebecca said chuckling. "Don't tell me..." She was interrupted."Yeah, I like him. Is he taken?" Paige asked flatly.

"No! He's single. No wife, No girlfriend." She said still laughing.

"Come to think of it, we would make an awesome couple" she tucked her hair again at her other ear.

"You have got to be kidding me" Becky chuckled."We should go... It's already late" Paige settled the bills and they both exited.

Jasper got home and sat on a couch in the parlor, he took the remote and switched on the television.

"You are late!.. For someone who went to the library" Jasper chuckled.

"Today was... Perfect" he said dreamily. He won't dare tell his brother about the girl he met today, he remembered her referring to him as Jayden, which meant she had meet him. And her reaction told him that their encounter did not end well.

"Really? Oh my gosh! Is that a blush?" Jasper could feel his cheeks hot.

"No! Boys don't blush Jayden" he said as a matter of fact."I'm bringing her over... Hope that's okay?"

"Okay? It's awesome! Who's the lucky girl?" Jayden could remember the last time Jasper dated, his date ended up being... his dinner... Although not intentionally. Ever since, he stopped dating except now actually.

"Have you eaten?" Jayden asked.

"Yeah!" Jasper answered and started tugging out his clothes. "At least one of us had a good day" he said flatly.

"What do you mean?" Jasper asked confused. Jayden had always been in a good mood whenever he went to work. "Sandy Roderick came to the office today, he wanted us to join his army" he paused.

"Army of what?" Jasper asked.

"We will wipe away every witch in New Orleans" He noticed the shock and fear that clouded Jasper's face.

"He's not gonna rest unless we agree and do as he says. He even refers to himself savior" He stressed on the word 'savior' with his fingers. 'No!' He thought, 'Today has been a bed of rose and this night can't spoil it for me'. He picked his clothes from the couch and went to his room without saying a word. He had the whole night to think about this.
