After I returned from using the restroom, Silas noticed a change in my mood. He glanced at me frequently with curious eyes. I barely paid attention to our group of friends and their light-hearted chatter.
Finally, Silas’s curiosity got the best of him. “Excuse us,” Silas said and grabbed my hand. “We’re going to see if Aunt Kae needs help.”
He pulled me through the crowd and into a sitting room. There wasn’t anyone in the room. The only light in the large room was a massive beautiful fireplace with a mahogany mantel. It was filled with vintage sculptures and furniture.
“What happened?” he asked.
“N-nothing,” I stammered, completely giving myself away.
