Chapter 6

Gemma's POV

Once my water broke, the rest was all downhill. I don't know if it's just because this was my third time giving birth or what, but while painful and exhausting, it was over in a relatively short period of time.

"It's a girl!" Kensi exclaimed excitedly. She knew how much Jasper was counting on the new baby being a girl and she was so thrilled that he was able to get his wish.

I could see Kensi rubbing my little baby with a warm towel, encouraging her to cry and breathe deeply. I watched as she examined her from the top of her head to her perfect little toes.

My little girl placed in my arms and I couldn't help but smile at her scrunched up crying face. She was so cute and so precious. I moved her to my chest and within mere seconds she had calmed down.

"Ahh!" Kensi sighed and said "she knows her mommy already."

Once Baby Girl had been nursed, Adrian went to get Sapphire and Jasper so they could meet their new baby sister.

The way my two children entered the room was such a contrast to their personalities. Sapphire was usually the first one you saw and heard. Jasper on the other hand was usually so quiet that many would forget he was nearby.

This time however, Jasper was the first one to come running through the doorway and only slowed down when he was stopped by his dad. The eagerness on his face was almost palpable.

Sapphire was more cautious than I had ever seen her. She approached the bed, but it was almost as if there was a barrier between her and the rest of the family.

I wasn't sure how to rectify the situation. I tried putting myself in her situation and suddenly a thought crossed my mind.

"Sapphire, you are my precious daughter; my firstborn. You can never be replaced." I said as I watched her reaction unsure if my words would resolve the barrier I felt.

Surprise and then relief flitted across her face. Then she moved onto the bed as well to take a closer look at the baby.

I kept my usual smile on my face, but secretly I was very relieved. I knew that Sapphire would be leaving for her apprenticeship soon and did not want her to have any unresolved fears before leaving with her mentor; to be gone for possibly several years.
