Chapter 01 - The Beginning

I don't know how I got here, more importantly, how I can be alive. I still remember sticking my sword in my chest after killing every member of my party, so how is it possible that I'm here.

My name is Ryu, I'm 18 years old, 1.80 tall, black hair and eyes, I'm quite handsome which has helped me in many jobs, but it doesn't seem useful at the moment.

Lying amidst the soft grass, I look up at the blue sky, always so relaxing and comforting, watching it has been one of my pastimes since I woke up on this island.

I'm lying on a small island, in the middle of a small shallow lake, the depth barely reaching my knee, around me, grass extends for a few meters in all directions, some trees also provide shelter from the weather and firewood, but I'm really lazy, so I'll stay here. Not moving, and just enjoying the blue sky.

A few hours later, the day seems to be drawing to a close, I believe that I should move, I stand up look to the side, I can see the shapes of some fish moving under the surface.

It will serve as a meal, looking around I notice a small tree with thin, straight branches, it will be a good fishing spear.

Choosing the straightest and most resistant one, I start to collect some dry branches scattered under the small trees, I then address the rocks at the edge of the lake where I choose two that seem to serve my purpose.

By knocking one stone against another, I am able to produce a small stone blade, which will serve to clean the fish. Also, the little sharp splinters left over will be great spearheads.

I approach the lake and wait, a few minutes later a fat red and white fish is next to me. In a quick move with the spear, I'm able to secure dinner. Now all I have to do is light the fire and dinner will be wonderful.

After dinner, I go back to lie down in the grass watching the sky for some reason. I have a feeling that something bad is going to happen. My senses have been trained by all the years I've acted as an assassin, yet I still don't feel like moving.

When the problem comes, I'll solve it if possible, otherwise I'm prepared for death, after all I've already died once, a second won't make any difference.

As enjoy the stars, sounds of struggle, and screams of despair start to reach my ears, turning towards the deck I see 3 men wearing black robes while wielding swords.

In front of them a strange abomination, such a thing, just looks like something out of a cheap horror movie. At 10 feet tall with abnormally long arms, and a gorilla-like body, the creature almost entirely covered in black hair towers over the three men, but what stands out most is not its size, but the strange white mask on its face, and an unusually large mouth, full of sharp teeth.

Watching from a distance, I notice that the three men are tired, and apparently injured. The creature however, despite some shallow cuts, is entirely fine.

As I watch the creature, it suddenly seems to lose interest in waiting for men to attack each other. Moving at a speed that should have been impossible given its size. The creature appears in front of the lowest of the three men, moving its right arm it hits him in the chest, throwing the poor man towards me, moving me slightly to the right I prevent the body from colliding with me, so it hits a small rock in my direct, but no sound leaves your mouth.

His two companions, seem to come to their senses with the death of their friend and move, towards the creature, trying to attack.

The man on the right swings his sword in an upward slashing motion, easily dodged by the creature, his move however puts it in the other man's line of attack, who launches a frontal piercing move,

The creature, as if waiting for such a move, swings its left arm in a movement of almost contempt and rips the second man's head off.

At that moment I realize the situation I'm in, now only a "bait" is between the monster and me. And she doesn't seem capable enough to be useful.

I approach the dead man beside me, and pick up the sword he used before, now, weapon in hand, I return my gaze to the fight, which seems to be over.

The creature has the poor man gripped by the legs, at least half of what is left of him, and he chews happily as if he were eating a candy.

Seeming to notice my movements, the creature turns its gaze to me and seems to focus on something in my hand.

Following his gaze, I lift the sword in my hands, and something is different. In place of the simple sword I took from the dead man, now in my hands I have a long sword whose blade is completely black, its guard is oval, and its hilt is blue, in addition, a purple ray runs from my fingers through the full extent of its blade, and returns to my hand.

Although it's something new, and it piqued my curiosity, now I must focus on the monster in front of me.

In an instant my sense of crisis screams at me to jump to the right, even so, turning my head slightly to the left, I watch the oncoming fist, stepping forward, avoiding the first blow, as I stab at his ribs, keeping my movement, I take another step forward as I twist the blade and pull it in an arc shape out of the creature's body, roaring through the pain it steps forward to step away from me and away. Turn.

With a lightness and speed I don't remember possessing in my life, I step forward and stab my sword through the head of the creature that's turning to the left. Due to his movement, my sword stabs his ear and ends up coming out on top of his head.

Jumping back as I draw the sword, I wait for any retaliation. But my only reward seems to be the creature decomposing into strange particles until it disappears from this world. Just what kind of strange world did I end up in, anyway, looks like I'll have fun here.

Walking towards the second dead man, who is still whole, I pick up his normal-looking sword, too, and watch it with some expectation.

In a few moments the sword starts to change, the blade shortens to the size of a long knife, its unprotected handle makes it extremely elegant and conveys a certain fascination, raising in front of the eyes a thin layer of water covers the blade like a protective film at the same time a layer expands across your arm, performing the same task of creating a protective film.

Watching the surrounding carnage, I think it's time to get out of here, walking to the still intact bodies I grab the scabbards of the swords hoping they adjust to their new shapes, as well as anything of value they have, they all have little bags of cloth with some strange coins. Even some delicious looking candy, in a small paper bag.

With the decision made, I take the scabbards of the swords that the dead will no longer have use, and I go away in search of new adventures in this strange world.
