I combined all Billy And The Gang short stories into one book. A group of men, who are trying to run and hide from their pasts, but no matter where they go, their pasts are always behind them. They meet another young man in the group who is a lot younger than they are. The younger man falls in love with a young Indian girl. Towards the end, their past finally catches up with them, and they are killed, death by hanging.

Chapter 9

When finished eating, Lone Wolf got up from the table and went out to the barn and rode his horse to the carrel. It was getting dark, the moon was very bright so you could still see outside. Lone Wolf watched his horse run inside the carrel stirring up the dust.

"Sorry about that, Lone Wolf is a hard-headed Indian," said Henry walking outside and sitting on the porch watching Lone Wolf. Lone Wolf jumped into the carrel and petted his horse, then Lone Wolf looked back and saw Henry sitting on the porch.

He jumped on his horse and rode to the woods. When he arrived he got off the horse and sat down on a rock, he was in an opened area, with trees all around him, he looked up into the sky and saw an eagle flying. Lone Wolf got up and turned around, he saw a black bear, so he sat back down on the rock and stared at the bear and the bear spoke.

"Do not hurt the man, he is trying to be connected to his roots," said the black bear.

"But he is a half-breed it was a half-breed that murdered and moved my village, my home," said Lone Wolf.

"He admires you, he wants to learn from you and nobody else, your native instincts are coming back, you are not moving on, only backward. Times are changing, there is nothing you or Henry can do about it," said the black bear.

"But what if something happens to the man, I'm older than he is, he could pass as my son or brother," said Lone Wolf.

"Patience," said the black bear turning around and walking away.

Lone Wolf turned and faced his horse and smiled. He jumped on and rode back to Frankie's house, he rode his horse in the barn and heard someone walk in.

"Lone Wolf," said Henry.

"Yes," said Lone Wolf.

"It is late, where have you been," said Henry.

"In the forest," said Lone Wolf.

"What did you find?" asked Henry.

"My spirit guide," said Lone Wolf.

"Good come up to the house and get some rest, your cousin is spending the night with us," said Henry.

"She can sleep in my room, I don't want that young man to get any ideas," said Lone Wolf.

"We know, come on," said Henry.

So they walked inside and went to bed. Lone Wolf laid in his bed and looked at Little Woman, then quietly got up and walked downstairs and starred at Josh, he laid a knife on the coffee table for Josh, that knife was going to go with Lone Wolf's son but he did not survive, he was killed along with his mother by Jason during the war. Lone Wolf walked back up the stairs and went to sleep. Little Woman smiled and went back to sleep.

Early morning Lone Wolf was already up early and feeding the horses in the barn.

Little Woman smiled at her cousin, as she watched him from the window. Everybody was up and drinking coffee, Josh woke up as well, he looked on the table and saw the knife. He picked it up and looked at Little Woman, Little Woman just smiled.

"He gave that to you last night, it is a sing of peace between you and himself. That knife was supposed to go to his son my nephew, now it belongs to you," said Little Woman.

"I didn't know he had a son?" asked Josh.

"Yes his son and wife were killed during the war," said Little Woman.

"Oh, where he is now?' asked Josh.

"He is in the barn feeding the animals," said Henry.

Josh got up and walked towards Little Woman.

"I made this for you," smiled Josh.

"Thank you, it is beautiful," said Little Woman.

Josh smiled and walked towards the barn.

"Hey," said Josh.

"Hey," said Lone Wolf feeding the horses.

"I want to thank you, you did not have to give me this," said Josh trying to hand it back to Lone Wolf.

"No, you keep it, it is yours now," said Lone Wolf.

"Well thank you," said Josh.

"You are welcome," said Lone Wolf.

Henry watched from the window they both came out of the barn walking side by side and talking. Henry smiled, Little Woman knew then that her cousin had finally had found peace in himself again.
