This line of questioning gave Olivia Taylor a completely different impression.

Olivia felt it was Luke Perkins doubting her.

She thought she had an outside child and was now pinning it on Tobias Perkins.

Temporarily overwhelmed by this misunderstanding, Olivia hurriedly explained, "My contact with Brother Tobias hasn't been completely severed..."

Before she could finish, she realized something was off.

For a while now, the lack of contact was a confirmed fact. If she were to confront Tobias, she was the one who would be off-balance.

After some hesitation, Olivia clarified, "We lost contact after I had the child."

This seemed a safer way to phrase it.

There was no joy in Luke Perkins' voice, rather, there was a hint of regret.

"You youngsters, always so impulsive," he sighed.

"You rushed into marriage, and I said nothing. You rushed into divorce, and I did not blame you."
