Only Pierce Hawthorn and Olivia Taylor remained in the room. To ease the tense atmosphere, Pierce spoke up first.
"I had thought you would come to the hospital to find me, but judging by your recent fainting spell, it seems your recent treatment hasn't had any effect. If anything, it has made you worse."
Since Pierce felt it was inappropriate to sit on Olivia's bed, he stood at its foot and conversed with her.
As they talked about the treatment, Olivia scoffed, "Indeed, it hasn't been effective."
However, even without Doctor Bryant's meddling, Olivia would not have sought Pierce's help for her illness.
Seeing that Olivia didn't want to discuss it further, Pierce told her, "Linda Cooper and I are good friends, so I consider you a friend as well. You wouldn't consider it presumptuous, would you, Mrs. Perkins?"
Olivia was slightly taken aback.
At first, she hadn't expected Pierce to say something so ingratiating, and hearing the title "Mrs. Perkins" seemed grating to her ears.
