Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Willard stared at the code on the screen.
"Willard, you were the one who designed this defense system." Tobias got up, standing behind Willard. He gazed at the dense code on the screen, and though he didn't understand it, he sensed trouble.
"That's precisely why it's terrifying for someone to bypass the security." Willard closed the current interface and opened the firewall backend monitoring.
"Look at this, Mr. Perkins." He nudged the computer screen toward Tobias. "I set up 300 different methods for blocking unauthorized accounts, all cross-generated and replicable. In other words, there are always 300 times more ways to block them…"
"If someone tries to break through manually with algorithms, it's practically impossible. And if someone uses AI, it's even more impossible. Our defense network programs will cut it off immediately."
As Willard and Tobias discussed, Tobias didn't understand the coding aspect. But he understood what Willard was saying.
There must be something fishy about it.
It wasn't a hacker's intrusion since few people would dare to touch the foolproof trap laid by Willard. At the same time, Willard had said that Luke was a ruthless man.
He wouldn't allow his territory to be trespassed upon, so he had set up a strict firewall. Any hacker attempting an illegal invasion could learn the depths of society's evil through the network cable.
"Could it be…" Tobias didn't finish his sentence when the sound of a door lock turning reached them. Both he and Willard turned their attention to the door.
Considering the time, it couldn't be Olivia.
Tobias tensed his body. Neither of them could predict who was behind the door.
When the door opened, Tobias frowned and said, "Why are you here?"
Suburb, expressway.
Olivia sighed as she glanced at the pursuing car in the rearview mirror.
"They really are persistent."
However, she figured rush hour in the city would soon be upon them. She deliberately took a detour, dragging it out even longer and waiting for the traffic to surround her pursuers so she could lose them easily.
Tobias was right; she excelled at driving.
As more and more cars joined the road, she expertly weaved through traffic, maintaining the critical speed without breaking any rules.
At the next crossroad, a merging point, she slowed down and glanced at the situation on the right.
There were cars joining, which was good.
She naturally reduced her speed, and one car joined the main traffic flow behind her, blocking her from the trailing car.
The vehicle following her hadn't anticipated this and made an emergency stop, leaving black skid marks on the road.
Although the car was momentarily blocked, it didn't give up on pursuing Olivia. Finding no cars on the left or right, it surged forward and continued following her.
Olivia frowned. There were plenty of tricks coming from that car. It had just taken advantage of a gap with no cameras to change its license plate again.
This was the third time they had swapped plates.
It seemed the opponent came well prepared, determined to follow her without discovery. Unfortunately, her instincts were well ingrained, making it difficult not to notice her pursuers.
Olivia opened the navigation map and selected the most congested route, heading there without hesitation.
There was always one such route in every city; no matter when or where, it would only ever be terrible or worse.
When Olivia squeezed her car into the congested area, she saw the car following her in the rearview mirror had changed its license plate again.
But it couldn't deceive her gaze since she didn't rely on the license plate number to track the car.
That was Olivia's ability; merely from the reflection in the rearview mirror and the sound of tire noise, she could lock onto the car's tire diameter and the tiniest scratches on its exterior.
This level of sensitivity was the mark of an elite talent trained by NEO.
Olivia drove toward the laboratory, intending to wear out the patience of her pursuers in the congested traffic. She figured circling around a few more times would cause them to give up following her.
That was human laziness.
As the car reached the next intersection, the car behind her unexpectedly switched directions and drove another way.
It wasn't following Olivia anymore.
For a second, Olivia hesitated before suddenly realizing.
They weren't tracking her; they were trying to divert her attention.
"Damn it…" Olivia knew that her every instinctive response had been manipulated.
Her anti-reconnaissance ability had made her subconsciously believe the people were tracking her, so she hadn't thought twice before playing around and finally ditching them, like a cat catching a rat.
However, they had used her mindset against her to buy time.
Their target was the laboratory, not her.
Olivia's heart clenched. She'd gone to the laboratory at Tobias's invitation, and now she'd delayed for so long. Would he be in danger?
Olivia quickly adjusted her route and rushed to the laboratory.
"Darling, you hid here all alone, making it so hard for me to find you." The woman's perfume was suffocating, and Willard covered his nose.
Shockingly, the person who had entered the laboratory was Samantha Collins.
Tobias was also surprised but didn't relax his guard. He questioned coldly, "What are you doing here?"
"Darling, I missed you! I didn't see you all day yesterday, and it felt like we were separated for ages…" Samantha approached enthusiastically, but Tobias noticed several people following her.
Though it wasn't apparent to others, he could tell where those people in suits and leather shoes came from with one glance.
NEO.
When did Samantha get involved with NEO? And how did she know his exact location? Tobias looked at Willard, who shook his head.
The schedule for today was personal and only shared with Willard. Willard was tight-lipped and wouldn't tell anyone else.
Tobias hadn't expected the day when his movements would be monitored. After marrying Olivia, he had tried to keep a low profile and hide his whereabouts to avoid subjecting both of them to unnecessary trouble.
