Chapter Two - Quick Visit

Dean walked inside the cold supermarket and looked around. There were only a few customers with slow waltz-like music playing over the speakers. Ronnie was running one of the registers, when his customer left, he looked at Dean.

"Heya Dean! Over here." He said, gesturing for him to come over. Dean walked over, the customer nodded to him. "I can't figure this thing out, man." The cash register seemed broken. Dean gently shoved Ronnie out of his way and simply pressed a button. It started functioning normally.

"...Oh." Ronnie said. Dean gave him a pat on the back before going down an aisle which had a lot of noise emerging from it. Lainey was there packing tomato cans angrily.

"Need help, Lainey?" Dean asked, walking over. Lainey looked up at him.

"Sure." She said, standing up brushing her knees off. "You hand me them and I'll put them on the shelf." Dean nodding, getting down on his knees and grabbing a can of tomatoes and handing them to Lainey for her to put up.

"Have you heard the news on the radio?" Lainey asked after a bit.

"Most of it. About the missing persons?"

"Yeah. Me and Ronnie are thinking of taking a camping break in a few weeks." Lainey said, looking back at Ronnie ringing up a customer. "Poor guy. His brother is real sick."

"Ren?" Dean asked holding a can of tomatoes.

"Yeah. He's got the flu or something, needs a break from this nasty air here." She reached for the can, he handed it to her.

"You should get Karra to come with us."

"She doesn't like bugs."

"Yes she does, she has a whole collection!"

"I dont want her to come." Dean looked up at her, a small scowl on his face. "She's a party pooper, Lainey." He said.

"Pssh, you'll be fine." Lainey scoffed and out the last can on the shelf. "It's not like you'll die." Lainey said as Ronnie wrapped his arms around Dean's neck.

"Raaah!" He screamed out as Dean yelped in fear. "Gotcha!" Ronnie said as he released Dean, giggling. Dean glared at him slightly. Before his gaze softened.

"Yeah, you got me." Dean said, brushing off his shoulders. The store was empty now other than them. "Seems its empty. Think Mr. Man would mind if we left a little early?"

"Nah, he wouldn't mind since its empty." Lainey said, pulling the keys to the store out of her pocket. "We just gotta make sure to lock up before we go." She said, turning to face Ronnie.

"Wanna race to the car?" Ronnie asked, smiling. Lainey nodded.

"Twerp, catch!" She said to Dean, tossing the keys to him. He caught them and held them against his chest. Lainey gently shoved Ronnie then ran out the doors of the supermarket. Ronnie chased, screaming "That's not fair!".

Dean shook his head and walked to the door. He set his hands on the door bar when a frigid wave of air flushed over him. He set a hand on his neck and turned around, looking into the quiet and cold supermarket.

The only noise was the air vents blowing out cold air. Dean hesitantly turned back around and opened the door, being greeted by the sudden change of cold to humid air. Lainey was wrestling with Ronnie near her car, trying to get in before him.

Dean headed to his car, going out of his way to step over the cracks. He put the key in his door when he heard Ronnie yell something.

"Dean! Come over to my house tomorrow for dinner! Ren is cooking!" He yelled before getting in the backseat of Lainey's car. Dean waved and got into his car.

He started the car, and looked back at the supermarket before backing out the parking lot. He didn't notice it but, something stared back.
