Grace’s POV
“Grace!” Pax suddenly called out, rushing towards us. “Oh, my goddess, look what I found!”
She rushed over, holding her hand protectively against her chest as if she’d found something unbelievably precious. With exciting jitters, she carefully held out her hand for me to see.
I leaned forward, wondering what I was about to see and prepare to have a jump-scare at the same time. Pax carefully opened her palm and her eyes glittered as the small treasure sparkled in the light of the fire.
I blinked, wondering if something was going on that I didn’t understand. Or if this was like that cat-alien thing in Captain Marvel and looks could be deceiving. Because all I saw was---
“A--- marble?” I asked, glancing carefully at Pax, not wanting to ruin her enthusiasm. But she was so cut up in her world, that she didn’t even notice.
“Isn’t it beautiful?” she sighed dreamily as if she’d just found her first crush. “I’ve never seen anything this pretty before.”
